PURE BOY (순정소년/ 純情少年), also stylized as PUREBOY or Pure Boy, was a South Korean boy group under IT Entertainment (formerly Pure Entertainment) and Star Park Entertainment. The latest lineup was made up of 5 members: Haru, Minyeop, EnL, Dongil, and Seokyu. They debuted on November 19, 2014, with the digital single “Yellow Shirt” as a 9-member group consisting of Sangmin, Jiho, Nankang, Hyobin, Jaewon, Youngbin, Jinseong, Hayoung, and Sangyun. The group was active in both Korea and Japan until their disbandment in late 2017.

The group was originally formed as a 15-member group in December 2013, and was intended to function as the second generation of PURE, following their planned disbandment in 2014. This concept was later abandoned, as only one of the PURE members joined the group, while the rest didn’t due to unspecified internal circumstances, resulting in a reduced 11-member lineup which was revealed in February 2014: Jiho, Nankang, Hyobin, Jaewon, Youngbin, Jinseong, Hayoung, Insoo, Sangwoo, Siyu, Daeho, and guest member Junsu. The lineup was originally divided in three sub-units, PURE BOY T, PURE BOY A, and PURE BOY S.
On April 29, 2014, the group released the special single “All Together” in collaboration with The Peace, The Soul, Jenny Girl, and Pentagon in remembrance of the Sewol Ferry disaster. During this early period, the agency also promoted a “Buddhist idol” concept due to the CEO’s religious background, with the members participating in related volunteer activities. The group later shifted its focus toward Japan and underwent multiple lineup changes during that time. The group eventually debuted as 9 members, Sangmin, Jiho, Nankang, Hyobin, Jaewon, Youngbin, Jinseong, Hayoung, and Sangyun, on November 19, 2014, with the digital single “Yellow Shirt”. On July 1, 2015, they made their Japanese debut with the single album LOVE X EVOL.
Plans for a sub-unit, PURE BOY-L, were announced for September 2015, but fell through when all members except Seokyu abruptly left the company on August 20, and later revealed on October 25 that they would redebut under a new agency as NAUGHTY BOYS (later known as NTB). The company responded by filing a lawsuit for damages and seeking an injunction to suspend their activities, leading to legal disputes.
In response, the company brought in new members to rebuild the lineup, and officially launched PURE BOY J(r.), renamed to PURE BOY-L in July 2015, consisting of Jinu, Seokyu, Daewoong, Ki-O, Hojong, Haru, Juyoung, and EnL. Following the departures of Daewoong and Juyoung, the unit was once again rebranded as PURE-L. The unit was intended to serve as the group’s “junior group”, a separate team designed to introduce a new generation of members under the PURE BOY brand. They officially debuted on December 30, 2015, with “Balloons”.
In January 2016, former members Sangyun and Hayoung returned to the group. It was later revealed that they had returned after allegedly being threatened and extorted by an executive at NAUGHTY BOYS‘ agency, High Choice Entertainment. Around the same time, allegations emerged that Seokyu had been physically abused by Jiho, Sangmin, and Jaewon. On September 20, it was reported that the three had been fined for assaulting Seokyu.
Around May 2016, PURE-L was merged into the main group, and together with Sangyun, Hayoung, and new member Kunhee, the reorganized group formed PURE BOY 2nd Generation (or PURE BOY REBORN). They resumed promotions in Japan on June 25, 2016.
More members would later be added through a special recruitment system inspired by AKB48, and the group also incorporated a “rookie member” system. However, this system never fully took off, as the group struggled to retain members throughout the following year. The most significant lineup change occurred in 2016, when Jinu, Kunhee, Sangyun, Hayoung, and Hojong all simultaneously left to redebut as B:SKIT (with Hojong only joining the group later), leaving PURE BOY with the 5-member lineup that would become their final formation.
EnL and Seokyu then joined Produce 101 Season 2 in April 2017, but were ultimately eliminated, after which no further updates were released on their and the group’s activities. Eventually, all their SNS accounts were deleted. Their most recent known Instagram post was dated June 19, 2017, and notably did not include Minyeop. Although no official disbandment announcement was made, the group is presumed to have disbanded in late 2017.
