Military Enlistment and Discharge Dates

As many of you may know, South Korea requires all of their males to enlist into mandatory military duty between the ages of 18 through 35. Every male must take a medical exam to deem their health grade. Grades 1 through 4 can serve. Grade 5 are unfit but still serves as a public service worker and grade 6 are exempted because completely unfit.

Here is a list of Actors and K-pop Idols enlisted into the military with their release dates (2017 – 2019).

2017 Military Enlistment

BIGBANG’s T.O.P Discharged


Choi Seung-hyun better known as T.O.P  started his military serves as a conscripted police officer in February 9, 2017 but was dishonorably discharged from the police due to charges for marijuana use. He served as a public service worker and was discharged on June 7, 2019.

Super Junior’s Kyuhyun Discharged


Kyuhyun began his mandatory military service on May 25, 2017 as a social service worker. His discharge date is May 7, 2019.

2PM’s Taecyeon Discharged


Back in December of 2010, JYP announced that Taecyeon was giving up his American permanent residence visa that he acquired at the age of 10 when his family immigrated to the states. Taecyeon enlisted in the military on September 4, 2017 as an active soldier. In 2018 the South Korea Prime Minister Lee Nak-yeon praised Taecyeon’s efforts to enlist during his congratulatory speech at the 15th Exemplary Military Servicemen Awards. Taecyeon  was discharged on May 16, 2019.

BIGSTAR’s Baram Discharged


Brave Entertainment announced on February 24, that Baram would enlist on February 27, 2017 to receive basic military training for four weeks.  He serve as a public service worker. He was discharged in January 2019.

Lee Soo-hyuk  Discharged


Soo Hyun started his service as a social worker on August 10, 2017. as quietly as possible. He was discharged on July 18, 2019.

Kang Ha Neul Discharged


Ha Neul enlisted into the military on September 11, 2017. Through social media he broke it to his fans about his choice to enlist and his need not to have any fan meet ups before hand.  Kang Ha Neul was discharged from serving as a military police officer of the Republic of Korea Capital Defense Command on May 23, 2019.

AKMU’s Lee Chanhyuk Discharged

Chanhyuk enlisted on September 18 2017 in the Marine Corps and was discharged on May 29, 2019.

Kim Soo Hyun Discharged


Not much has been stated about Kim Soo Hyun’s activities in the military. His enlistment and discharge dates are October 23, 2017 – July 22, 2019.

Buffy Discharged


Buffy announced that he would be enlisting into the military on November 20, 2017 through Madtown‘s fan cafe as well as announcing his departure from the group. He was discharged on August 9, 2019.

G.Soul Discharged

On December 16, G.Soul’s agency announced that the R&B singer would be enlisting into the military on December 26, 2017. It was revealed that he previously applied to be a conscripted policeman, but later changed his mind to enlist as an active-duty solder. G. Soul is scheduled to be discharged in October of 2019.

U-Kiss’s Soohyun Discharged


Soohyun quietly enlisted into the military with just his members and family seeing him off on December 28, 2017. Soohyun completed his duty as an active soldier and was discharged on September 1,  2019.

2018 Enlistment

Baek Sung-hyun Discharged


Back Sung Hyun enlisted on January 2, 2018 and will serve 23 months as a member of the Korean Coast Guard.

 

BIGSTAR’s Raehwan Discharged

 Raehwan entered the 22nd Division in Geseong County, Gangwon Province on February 5, 2018. After his five weeks of basic training he will serve as full-time in the reserve forces.

 

Lee Hyun Woo Discharged

 Rather than waiting for his draft notice, actor Lee Hyun Woo voluntarily enlisted into the military on February 19, 2018. Hyun Woo stated on his enlistment day that he was not worried and was really excited for some reason.

 

BIGBANG’s G-Dragon Discharged


G. Dragon is the second member of BIGBANG to leave for his military service. He enlist into the Army on February 27, 2018 and is set to be discharged on October 26, 2019. During his service he was hospitalized after having surgery on his ankle; an injury that was acquired prior to his enlistment. He got discharged from the military on October 28th, 2019.

CNBLUE’s Jung Yonghwa Discharged


Yonghwa is the first member to enlist in the military. He enlisted on March 5, 2018 and will serve as an active duty soldier. His discharge date is November 11, 2019.

BIGBANG’s Taeyang Discharged

  Taeyang joined the military on March 12, 2018, undergoing his five-week training then got assigned to a unit in the army. He got discharged from the military on November 10th, 2019.

Seogoong – I’M Discharged

  I’M enlisted in the military on March 12, 2018.

BIGBANG’s Daesung Discharged

  Daesung began his military service on March 13, 2018 undergoing basic army training sessions before being assigned to a unit in the army. He got discharged from the military on November 10th, 2019.

Woo Taewoon Discharged

    Former member of SPEED and contestant on MIXNINE and Show Me the Money, Taewoon enlisted in the military at Nonsan Training Center on March 15, 2018.

Dong Ha Discharged

 Actor Dong Ha enlisted into the military on May 1, 2018. He received Grade 1 from his physical examination and enlisted as an active duty soldier.

2PM’s Jun.K Discharged


Jun.K enlisted on May 8, 2018. Upon his departure, he shared a handwritten letter for his fans. In the letter he again apologies for the DUI incident earlier that year in February, stating, “…I have locked myself up in regret and self-blame everyday.” Jun.K further says that he hopes the man he is once returned to life before is one he and his fans are happy with.

Infinite’s Sunggyu Discharged


On May 14, 2018 Sunggyu entered the training center of the 22nd Infantry Division. He wanted to enter as quietly as possible and didn’t stop for interviews but did wave to fans and saying thank you to them. Sunggyu is scheduled to discharged on January 8, 2020 from being on active duty.

Go Kyung Pyo Discharged


Actor Go Kyung Pro enlisted in the military on May 21, 2018 quietly at the training center of the 23rd Infantry Division in Samcheok of Gangwon Province.

Jo Yoon Woo Discharged


“Hwarang” actor Jo Soon Woo broke the news to fans about enlisting on June 19, 2018. The actor entered the training center in Gangwon Province to receive basic training before being assigned to his unit.

2PM’s Wooyoung Discharged


Wooyoung was seen off by his family and members at the training center of the 21st Infantry Division on July 9, 2018.

Jang Geun Suk Discharged


Actor Jang Geun Suk quietly enlists into the military on July 16, 2018. Since Geun Suk was diagnosed with bipolar disorder he had to enter the Military Manpower Association’s Social Service Training Center, following regulations that exempt them from basic military training. After five days of basic public service training,  Geun Suk moved on to work as a public service worker. His discharge date is set to July 15, 2020.

Jang Hyunseung Discharged


Cube Entertainment announce the day, July 24, 2018, of about Jang Hyunseung’s enlistment as he wanted to enlist quietly, nothing about the location or time was announced. Hyunseung will serve as an active duty soldier.

CNBLUE’s Lee Jung-shin Discharged


Lee Jung Shin enlisted quietly on July 31, 2018.

CNBLUE’s Kang Min-hyuk Discharged

 Along with Lee Jung Shin, Kang Min Hyuk enlisted on the same day of July 31, 2018 without their training location being disclosed.

2AM’s Jo Kwon Discharged


Accompanied with friends, Jo Kwon quietly entered the recruit training center on August 6, 2018. After five weeks of basic training, Jo Kwon will continue serving as an active duty soldier until March 24, 2020.

CNBLUE’s Lee Jong-hyun Discharged


The final member of CNBLUE enlisted on August 7, 2018, due to personal wishes, FNC Entertainment did not disclose information and the whereabouts from entering.

BTOB’s Eunkwang Discharged


Eunwang is the first member of BTOB to enlist in the military. He entered the training center of the 27th Infantry Division in Hwacheon Country of Gangwon Province on August 21, 2018. He is set to be discharged from his duties as an active duty soldier on May 20, 2020.

HALO’s Dino Discharged


On August 21, 2018 High Star ENT stated Dino began his service at the 27th Infantry Division Unit recruit training center in Hwacheon Gangwon Province.

Highlight’s Doojoon Discharged


Doojoon enlisted on August 24, 2018 and was assigned to the 12th Infantry Division’s military police department at Inje county in Gangwon province.

SHINee’s Onew Discharged


Shinee’s leader, Onew was seen off by his band members on December 10, 2018. He will complete his service as an active duty soldier.

Block B’s Jaehyo Discharged


Announcements about Jaehyo enlisting came as early as the 4th of December. Seven Seasons confirmed that Jaehyo would carry out his duty as a public service worker starting December 20, 2018.

2019 Military Enlistment

BTOB’s Changsub Discharged


Changsub enlisted on January 14, 2019 with the time and location not being disclosed to the public. Before leaving he had a farewell diner with his ’91-line friends.

Highlight’s Yoseob Discharged


Back in October Around Us Entertainment announced Yoseob enlistment plans. The singer enlisted on January 24, 2019 as a conscripted policeman after undergoing basic training.

Loco Discharged


Loco was seen off by label mates and friends of AOMG Music on Feburury 7, 2019. The same day, Loco left fans with a new album as a see you later album. After basic training he will serve as a conscripted policeman.

BTOB’s Minhyuk Discharged


On January 11, Cube Entertainment announced Minhyuk’s military enlistment date. Minhyuk enlisted on February 7, 2019 and will serve as a conscripted policeman.

SHINee’s Key Discharged


On March 4, 2019, Key enlisted into the military. He posted a handwritten message on his instagram, thanking his fans and informing them he will return to them as a better and healthier version of himself.

VIXX’s N Discharged


It was announced on January 26, through a message N sent through the official fan cafe that he would be enlisting on March 4, 2019. He received his notice to become an active duty soldier.

SHINee’s Minho Discharged

Choi Minho is the 3rd member of SHINee to enlist into the military. He enlisted in the Marine Corps on April 15, 2019 and will be discharged on November 15, 2020.

INFINITE’s Dongwoo Discharged


On April 15, Dongwoo enlisted into the military. He decided to enlist quietly being sent off by friends and family. He originally applied as a police officer but did not pass and was enlisted as an active duty solider.

Highlight’s Lee Gikwang Discharged


On December 21, Lee Gikwang’s name was listed on the Gyeonggi Southern District Police Agency list of successful candidates for their 363rd recruitment of conscripted policemen. On January 28, representatives of Highlight announced his official enlistment date to be April 18, 2019.

EXO’s Xiumin Discharged


Kim Min-Seok (Xiumin) is the eldest member of EXO and is the first to enlist in the military. It was announced that he enlisted on May 7th 2019.

Yoon Jisung Discharged


On May 14th, after releasing 2 albums as a soloist, Yoon Jisung enlisted into the military as an active duty soldier. As a parting gift he leaves fans with a new single.

EXO’s D.O Discharged


Kyungsoo or better known by his stage name, D.O is the second member of EXO to enlist into the military following Xiumin who just left in early May. His military service is scheduled to start July 1, 2019 and should last until January 25, 2021.
