Taeyeon (Girls’ Generation) Tattoos & Meanings
Below is a list of all of Taeyeon’s known tattoos, as well as confirmed or potential meanings for them.

Ear
Pisces Symbol
Behind her left ear, Taeyeon has the symbol for the western astrological sign Pisces tattooed. This was Taeyeon’s first tattoo and was first spotted by fans in the summer of 2015. Taeyeon, who was born on March 9, is a Pisces.
Neck
“Purpose”
On the back of her neck, Taeyeon has the word “Purpose” tattooed. When asked about the meaning of the tattoo, Taeyeon revealed it refers to her goal of living meaningfully and doing everything with the right purpose. Also, the tattoo is a reference to her second full-length album of the same name.
Arms
“cool”
For the first of her arm tattoos, Taeyeon has the word “Cool” tattooed on her upper right arm. The name Taeyeon (태연) means calm or cool in Korean, and thus the tattoo refers to the meaning of her first name.
“serenity”
Perhaps her most known tattoo is the word “serenity” tattooed just above her right elbow. Much like the previous tattoo on this list, Taeyeon’s “serenity” tattoo refers to the meaning of her given name. In fact, the “ty” in “serenity” was purposefully done in a slightly larger font than the rest of the letters.
“1961”
Just above her left elbow, Taeyeon has the year 1961 tattooed. Although not confirmed, fans believe this tattoo is a tribute to Taeyeon’s father, who sadly passed away on March 9, 2020.
Wrist
“NASA”
Within her collection, Taeyeon has two UV tattoos, once of which can be found on her wrist. Under UV light, a tattoo that reads “NASA” can be seen. However, given that it only appears under UV light, this is one of Taeyeon’s least seen pieces.
Hand
Cloud
On the front of her left hand, Taeyeon has the tattoo of a singular pink cloud. Over time, however, this tattoo has become extremely faded and hard to see in photos.
Fingers
“I”
The first of Taeyeon’s many finger tattoos can be found on her right thumb — the letter I. This tattoo is a reference to her debut mini album, I, and its title track of the same name.
“F.”
On her right middle finger, Taeyeon has the letter ‘F’ tattooed. This tattoo is another reference to her body of solo music, specifically her 2017 song “Fine”, which was the lead single from her first full-length album.
Twinkling Star
The second of Taeyeon’s UV tattoos is that of a twinkling star on her right ring finger. Again, due to only appearing under UV, this tattoo is very hard to see.
Fish
On her left middle finger, Taeyeon has the tattoo of a fish. The Western zodiac sign Pisces is symbolized by two fish. Therefore, fans theorize that this tattoo is yet another nod to Taeyeon’s zodiac sign.
Line Band
On her left thumb, Taeyeon has a tattoo of a single line that wraps around the whole finger, thus giving the illusion that she’s wearing a ring.
Gun
On her right middle finger, Taeyeon has the tattoo of a gun.
Plus Sign
On her right pinky finger, Taeyeon has the tattoo of a plus sign (+).
Water Droplet
On her right ring finger, Taeyeon has the tattoo of a water droplet.
Eyeglasses
Finally, on her left pinky finger, Taeyeon has a pair of eyeglassess tattoo. Although never confirmed, fans theorize this is a tribute to Taeyeon’s parents. In her hometown of Jeonju, Taeyeon’s parents own and run an eyeglasses shop called Eyebis.
