Twoji (투지; also known as 2JI) was a three-member South Korean girl group under J.I Dream Production. The group was formed in March 2004. The final lineup consisted of Jihye, Ihyun, and Ian. Before their official debut as singers, they released their self-titled single album Twoji on December 22, 2005. They were under TWOJI Entertainment until 2007. The group officially debuted as a vocal/dance group on September 5, 2008, with the album Emerald (X). They silently disbanded sometime between November 2008 and early 2009.
Group Name Meaning: The group’s name translates in Hanja to “throw” (投; tóu) and “will” (志; zhì). Together, the full group name’s meaning is “throwing the will and significance of cross-over music to the world.” The word “two” in the group name represents the crossing of the two genres of classic and non-classic. In English, the letters “j” and “i” are the initials of their core values, which are joy and innovation. Additionally, the group name symbolizes the “burning fighting spirit (투지; tuji)” of Koreans to pioneer a new musical genre. However, Twoji originally represented the combination of two “J”s (Juyoung and Jihye) and two “I”s (Ina and Ihyun) in the first lineup.
