SunB Facts:
— He’s from Daegu, South Korea.
— He’s currently based in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, South Korea.
— He has a brother and older sister.
— He ran away from home at one point in his life. He recalled leaving home with a 10,000 won bill in his hand and spending the following months between a shanty town in Gangwon province and a toilet at the Seoul station.
— His parents would move to Seoul when he was in his senior year at high school.
— He came to Seoul after a lot of hard work. While regretting causing his parents trouble at that time, he now thinks a solid world view is formed through experiences that others cannot easily do.
— He began his medical career by chance after his former homeroom teacher, who had transferred to his new school, arranged an early university interview for him. Following his gut during the interview, he passed and apparently surprised the interviewers with his answers.
— When he was young, he liked pop songs, including K-Pop.
— He used to play the drums in a band when he was in college, and was also a member of the orchestra club, where he played the violin.
— He began performing as a DJ in 2021.
— He recalled wanting to try DJing sometimes when he was younger. The opportunity arose when he faced a two week quarantine due to COVID-19. He’d take YouTube and Internet lectures by himself in his spare time. Then, he’d go to DJ GLORY and Vandalrock to effectively learn production and DJing.
— Once, his brother, who’s also a DJ himself, accidentally posted a picture of DJing in the corner of the room on Instagram and suggested SunB try it at a lounge in Apgujeong-dong. Since it was the first time for SinB then, he’d practice cramming for a few nights before performing.
— He’s an “All-Kind” DJ.
— If he had to pick his main genre, he’d go for psytrance. It’s described to be an open format DJ style with a tendency to mix all genres, but he think it’s also heavily influenced by Timmy Trumpet, Vini Vici, and the Hilight Tribe among foreign artists.
— He’s the music director of Club EXXIT and the Yongpyeong Resort Festival.
— His medical expertise is cosmetic surgery.
— He mainly performs at clubs and at big festivals.
— Some locations he has performed at include South Korea (Seoul), the USA (Miami), Guam, Spain (Ibiza), Japan (Tokyo) and Hong Kong among others.
— Some festivals he took part in are the World DJ Festival, the Micro Seoul Festival, and We Are the One Vietnam.
— He collaborated with artists such as DJ38SUN, RINA, HUSH, Moon Knife, and JASON among others.
— He thinks DJing itself is attractive; however, as acts such as Eric Prydz and Tale of Us gain popularity, he hopes to be able to create a concept of a show that stimulates the five senses.
— In the meantime, he has had electronic violists, samulnori players, pansori players, trumpeters, and saxophonists collaborate with tap dancers, rappers, singers, and b-boys for his performances to “grow through trial and error.”
— In the future, he’d like to include visual graphics, drones, and AI technology among other elements in his performances.
— He believes that to create a good vibe, a DJ must understand the culture and audience of each venue. He feels that a DJ who doesn’t grasp a region’s history, emotions, and icons can’t truly impress a crowd.
— He works out a lot. He won several awards for Monster Gym, Hot Guy, and Mr. International Korea among others. He explained he works out for his own good.
— He won an award as the best doctor in the field of plastic surgery at the National Assembly.
— He pointed out that DJing, which initially started as a sort of “secret double life of Dr. Cheon Jaehyeon,” is now a big deal to him, so much that the Doctors Association forgot he’s also a doctor and would invite him as a DJ.
— He started DJing in 2021 or 2022 at the end of the year party of the hospital where he worked.
— Since he started his career as a DJ, he has been so busy with that and his job as a doctor that he has set hobbies aside. However, there was a time where he was so into StarCraft that he took part in amateur championships and won several of them. Now, he spends his spare time going to the gym among other things.
— Since the barriers to DJing have gradually lowered, he acknowledged many people have been working as DJs, which can also be seen as a hobby, depending on the point of view.
— He thinks the biggest disadvantage of being both a doctor and a DJ is having to split his time, which leaves him with little room for anything else. He plans to live this way until he gains enough recognition to pursue DJing overseas.
— Another disadvantage is that DJing doesn’t bring a fixed income, which means living and occupation are something that must be considered separately. This forces him to separate his passion from his main occupation until he gains enough recognition as a DJ to earn a reliable living.
— He believes the biggest advantage is being able to blend music into a unique stage and project his own energy. With global recognition, that experience can be shared worldwide.
— He likes feeling that energy because it’s like he exercises after performing on stage.
— He also thinks that working both as a doctor and a DJ is a point in his favor because it allows him to have differentiated activities and points of views, which, however, can become burdensome.
— He admits he has been working seven days a week for approximately ten years to keep up with his jobs. To maintain this lifestyle, he needs to be in good health, as well as manage his time and financial resources in a conscious manner.
— He tends to get stressed if there are no comments under his Instagram posts.
— He thinks people from various fields can come into the DJ scene and bring diversity to it, and, as a consequence, more public action.
— He wants to pay respect to all the DJs so that they develop the Korean electronic music scene together.
— Since he was born, he decided to live doing what he really likes. He knows he’s living his life following through his bucket list step by step.
— His motto is “Let’s take everything that happens around me as intense as a flame. No tomb without excuses. Let’s have our own style.”

About the author

Hello everybody! You can call me Midge here. I've been an author on KProfiles since November 2019.

I like finding nugu (=super underrated) K-Pop artists. I think I've found some of the nuguest artists I could come across.

Unfortunately, I tend to be extremely forgetful and a master procrastinator, so I apologize for that.

I have a long-*ss bias list, so I don't think it can fit here.

Be nice and enjoy!
