Kenshi Yonezu (米津 玄師), also known by his producer name Hachi (ハチ), is a Japanese singer-songwriter, musician, record producer, and illustrator. He began his career in 2009 creating Vocaloid works under the name Hachi, later debuting under his real name in 2012 with the self-sung album ‘Diorama‘. Known for his poetic lyricism, genre-blending sound, and distinctive hand-drawn artwork, Yonezu has become one of Japan’s most influential contemporary artists, with multiple chart-topping releases and millions of physical and digital sales. His 2022 single ‘Kick Back‘, used as the opening theme for ‘Chainsaw Man‘, became the first Japanese-language song to earn RIAA Gold certification in the United States.

– He was born in Tokushima, Japan.
– He has a sister.
– He revealed that he was brought up in a family that was both physically and emotionally poor, and typically felt that his mother understood him more than his father.
– According to him, he did not have the best relationship with his father.
– He had said that his name is so unusual he had to post a photo of his ID to prove it wasn’t fake.
– He revealed that he could even forget what he had for dinner the previous night and is said to not have a good memory.
– When he was 10 years old, his parents bought a computer, and he began making and uploading Flash animation videos for Bump of Chicken songs on the Internet.
– In school, he had few friends due to poor social skills and did not enjoy school life, so he didn’t want to study at all.
– During his second year of junior high school, he formed a band with his friend Hiroshi Nakajima, called “Late Rabbit Edda“, to perform at their school culture festival.
– He worked as the vocalist, songwriter, and occasional guitarist, while Nakajima was the guitarist.
