{Voice} Violet's Vocal Time
This week I chose 'Voice' by Taeyeon. It's one of her Japanese songs, and I think it's fitting
considering our upcoming album!

*Fun Fact: This song was originally the 2nd song in the upcoming album but I changed my mind*

{La Vie En Rose} The Sound of Xia
Today I am doing both a guitar and vocal cover of Edith Piaf's 'La Vie En Rose'.
As soon as I heard that it would be the title of our recent release I began practicing my French just so I could upload this cover. I hope you like it Aurora!

Welcome to a new series where I (the creator of ENCHANTRESS) will offer
previously unreleased thoughts and random information about the group.
I just really enjoy sharing my process, even if you don't care all that much.
I hope you find this first installment where I will be discussing difficulties
I have had with picking songs and concepts.

โœจ The 'Summer Magic' Title Track Dilemma โœจ
'Summer Magic' is the title of ENCHANTRESS 4th EP and token summer comeback.
The title track is "Red Flavor" by Red Velvet.
Something you didn't know is that "Red Flavor" was far from my first choice.
I originally chose to use "Boogie Up" by WJSN. However I felt that it didn't have
that ENCHANTRESS sound.
Then I switched to "Power Up" by Red Velvet. However that song is 3/4 sung together.
This means that the line distribution was horrible due to frequent high notes and nothing to balance it out.
Eventually I chose "Red Flavor" and I grew to love the song more than I thought I could.
Along with this the album design changed frequently. From yellow to red and back again.
The photo also changed between various Red Velvet pictures before I settled on Elris.

โœจ The Mess That Was Choosing Songs and Concept for "The Bloom" โœจ
I had a similar issue with the most recent ENCHANTRESS album.
The whole concept of the album was switched at one point. It took on the floral concept that was originally for a Korean release. That release now holds the original Japanese concept.
Then I couldn't pick a title track, so I took 'La Vie En Rose' from that same Korean release.
This ended up changing that release's concept even more (for the better).
Then I had issues picking a bside. I mentioned already that
I originally wanted "Voice" by Taeyeon to be the bside.
I changed that cause I felt it met the fairytale but not the floral concept.
I have always tried to form the albums with a theme within the fairytale, not the story itself.
I ended up switching to "Secret Garden" because of this and it also gave a fairer distribution.

โœจ Sweet Dream and The Perfect Bside I Left Behind โœจ
When I was creating the album I chose Jin's "Awake" as the bside.
The lyrics were perfect and it was such an ENCHANTRESS ballad.
However I couldn't find a Korean cover that I was satisfied with, so I dropped it.
I then picked "Back Together" by Everglow.
This is something I kinda regret as it does fit the fairytale,
but not the concept of the album (waking up, the sky, and how beautiful the world is).
I considered just using the male voice of Jin but I couldn't get myself to do it.

That's all for now!
I will probably post another one tomorrow as I have more to say already.

Welcome to part 2 of a series where I (the creator of ENCHANTRESS) will offer
previously unreleased thoughts and random information about the group.
I just really enjoy sharing my process, even if you don't care all that much.
This installment will focus solely on line distribution.

โœจ Efforts to Make Line Distribution Fairer โœจ
When I am distributing lines for a new song I first focus on who fits which part in terms of difficulty and tone.
I will also give certain parts to certain members based on their personality.
For example: In 'Sunrise' I gave Violet Umji's short part between the first two verses. Typically a part like this would go to Zoe but it had such a cute vibe that I had to give to the resident cutie of ENCHANTRESS.
Most of the time the distribution is not what I originally made it.
This original distribution tends to be quite unfair and fairness is something
I strive for when it comes to ENCHANTRESS.
I will often exchange lines or share lines to make it fairer
Here's a list of examples of this:

Closer
Violet originally sung Yujin's part after the second chorus and in the ending of the song.
The lines while the rest of the group sings "Closer I'm Closer".

The 'Come on come on come on..." part was originally sung individually by Bada and Zoe.
However Xia ended up with few lines so I had her share the lines with Bada and Zoe.

Xia also got the adlibs present in the verses after the first chorus because Violet had too many lines.

Psycho
During the prechorus there are some adlibs between lines.
These are done by Red Velvet vocalists so I originally had the vocal line doing them.
However the distribution wasn't good so I ended up giving them to the rap line.

Cry for Me
Originally the "Bad boy bad boy" part of the prechorus went to Xia.
However I ended up switching to the rap line due to their lack of lines.

Red Flavor
Violet originally got all of Wendy's lines, but this was really unfair so
I gave her first verse and verse after the first chorus to rap line members.

I split the chorus's center time into two sections so two members could be center.
This meant that I could take the last line in the chorus and have them share it.
As "Red Flavor" is a vocally heavy song with an all-member sung chorus,
this gave non-vocal line members more lines.

Twilight
Yujin sang the first verse but I gave it to Zoe.
Yujin had two parts before the 1st chorus and it really added up.

โœจ Regrets I Have With Distributions โœจ
There are two instances in title tracks where I wish I could go back and change the distribution.

The first is in "Psycho".
In this song I split up Seulgi's bridge line between Xia and Violet.
This led to Violet getting the high note. I did this at the time cause Violet is the Main Vocal.
Looking back I wish I had given the whole line to Xia.
It fits her vocal tone a lot better and would show vocal diversity in the song.

The second is with "Red Flavor".
Like I mentioned in my first post, the last line in the chorus is sung only by the members who were in the center. Instead I wish I had had half the member sing each half of the chorus.
If you listen to the song you can hear how the first verse in the chorus is easier to sing and lower. I think the volume of members with higher pitches or access to higher registers was brought up in the 2nd half of the chorus. Therefore I think it would have been more logical to have vocal line members be center in the 2nd half. Or if a rap line member is center in it have 2 other vocal line members present.
This is how I would do it today:

Intro Chorus
Violet (Center) and Bada
Zoe (Center), Xia, and Yujin

1st Chorus
Violet (Center) and Zoe
Bada (Center), Yujin, and Xia

2nd Chorus
Yujin (Center), Bada, and Zoe
Xia (Center) and Violet

3rd Chorus
Zoe (Center), Xia, and Bada
Yujin (Center) and Violet

There is also an instance of regret with one of the promotional bside tracks,
"Love So Sweet" from the debut mini.
When I dance along to this song and pretend to be different members I often feel that the distribution is off when it comes to center time.
Violet is the center of the group but I gave her very little center time.
This could easily have been fixed by reorganizing the vocal line's parts.
They swap between the two prechorus parts, the chorus, and the post chorus.

1st Prechorus Part 1
Violet Yujin

1st Prechorus Part 2
Yujin Xia

1st Chorus Part
Xia Violet

1st Post Chorus Part
Yujin No Change

2nd Prechorus Part 1
Yujin Violet

2nd Prechorus Part 2
Xia Yujin

2nd Chorus Part
Violet Xia

2nd Post Chorus Part
Xia Violet

3rd Chorus Part
Xia Yujin

*With this change Yujin's prechorus part would go to Zoe*

2nd Post Chorus Part
Violet Xia
Zoe Violet

I know none of this makes sense, but it does in my head.
