You might have heard someone say "Hate is a strong word" before, therefore we shouldn't use it. But there should be a better explanation for why we shouldn't use the word.
Something I've noticed, not just in the kpop community, but in society in general, is that we use the word 'hate' a lot, but we don't mean it.
Hate is defined as: "To dislike intensely or passionately; feel extreme aversion for or extreme hostility toward; detest".
If you were to view hate on an emotional spectrum, it would be on the extreme negative side, opposed to love on the positive end. If we are so hesitant to tell people we love them, why isn't it the same with hate. Love is an emotion that takes time to build, and we hold so preciously and carefully. Yet we are so open to slapping the word 'hate' on everything we simply dislike.
Sure there are times where we do truly hate something, so it is warranted. But saying something like "I hate oranges" just because you dislike them, doesn't make sense.
It's like when people say "Oh I'm so depressed" when in reality they usually mean they are just sad.
When you say you hate something, it should be because it is causing you pain, fear, anger, or envy. Enough so that you want to get rid of it, and relive yourself of this extreme emotion.
This word can also be extremely harmful, compared to saying 'dislike'. 'Hate' is such an impactful and pain causing word, that it should only be used when you find it absolutely necessary.
I know some people reading this are gonna think I'm a goody two shoes or overly sensitive. But, I think that sometimes I need to say what is on my mind.
Please refrain from using the word "hate", in situations where it is just an exaggeration. It could hurt people and makes what you are saying much more harmful.
