Tbh, I don't even like saying dislike. I prefer "don't like." My parents used to say "hate" was a bad word and my siblings and I couldn't say it, so it is hard for me to say it. On another note, I don't like when people say they're depressed when they're really sad or when they say someone has OCD when they're just meticulous, when they say someone's bipolar because their mood changes all of a sudden like one time, or when they throw around the word "psycho" as if it's the equivalent of "weirdo."

I feel the same exact way. As someone with one of the listed mental health disorders, it feels almost ridiculing for it to be used to casually.

Agreed. My parents never used "hate" when my brother & I were growing up and they explained to us that it's a strong word & could have an "upsetting meaning" behind it when used for something that it isn't used for, if that makes sense. I use that same logic with my kids today. I try not to use the word around them, because they will pick up on it, but at the same time, I am not perfect & have been known to let it slip, over simple things like "I hate strawberries" for example. My son said he hated his sister the other day, so I had to sit him down and explain to him how that could have a negative effect on their relationship as siblings as they get older. I'm not sure if he understands though, since he is only 6, but I tried to explain it the best I could.

I also agree about the depressed thing. My best friend does that shit & it irritates me. She will be sad because of her baby daddy & will text me about how she is so depressed, but in reality she is just sad. I told her once it was very inconsiderate of her to throw the D word around like it's something casual, and then she got mad at me for "lecturing" her.

Please no more self deprecating comments. It completely undermines the purpose behind me posting this thread. I know that many of you are hurting, but can you please post about it somewhere else. It's upsetting to see so many comments filled with self hatred in one place. Especially since this thread is trying to advocate for the opposite. If you really want to talk to someone about how you are feeling, PM me or another user, or utilize one of the threads that are there for mental health support. Thanks, and sorry if this hurt anyone, it was not my intention.

You don't have to be sorry. And feel free to talk about your feelings, just in more appropriate places on the forums I guess. Thanks for understanding. 💜
