There are some great fans, but then there are also stadiums filled with toxic fans. I just wish K-pop idols could receive the love and support they truly deserve from the world. I hope those toxic fans will stop being so self-centered and obsessed.
I do believe that the majority of Kpop fans are fine, but the minority that isn't is fairly large and very loud and impossible to ignore. But there are little things that are common in Kpop circles that make me kind of uncomfortable even though they're accepted and common, like blatant sexualization, especially of male idols (the sheer number of times I've been trying to watch a cool performance by a group I stan and the comment section is almost entirely people like "omg I want to have his babies" or "proof [member] tops [other member]," like, have you forgotten you don't know this man? Or when idols are doing lives and the entire chat is just "do aegyo" "sing us this song" "do a finger heart" "say ____" "speak English" like??? They're not your puppet??? Stupid drama and fanwars and parasocial relationships and impossible expectations and judgement abound. I think the ones like that are just especially likely to be on the internet because they don't have a life (not to say everyone who talks about Kpop on the internet doesn't have a life, I mean, I'm here too) so they have to spend all their time speculating about and causing problems in other people's. And that's not even the actually bad creepy fans and sasaengs.
