Is NextGen's Xinyi dating someone?
Screenshot 2026-07-04 145755.png

It's only been a few weeks since PREP announced their first ever girl group, NextGen, but the group has already built up a giant fanbase. However, these same fans are now skeptical as news of Xinyi, an upcoming member of this group, was spotted with a man by herself.
On January 24, while the other members of the group were busy preparing for their debut, Xinyi was spotted across town from the PREP Entertainment building at a cafe. She was seen inside alone, and some fans even reported approaching her to ask for an autograph. They noted that this surprised the pre-debut idol, as she hadn't even made her debut yet.
"How am I already so famous when you don't know how talented I am yet?" she asked a fan, who merely laughed at her comment.
However, the real shock came when she was seen exiting the cafe not by herself, but with a man. She made no moves to hide herself, so followers of NextGen were quick to identify her. However, they didn't recognize the masked man beside her that she left with. The follower who got the picture informed us that the man had entered the cafe only three minutes before leaving with Xinyi.
This raised multiple questions among the community of followers anxiously awaiting NextGen's debut - Who is this man? How does he know Xinyi? Are they dating? And, most importantly, does PREP know that their upcoming idol has a boyfriend?
Has Xinyi just dug her own grave? "Surely, once PREP finds out their idol is dating, they won't let her debut," a heartbroken fan comments.

"In response to the dating rumors that have surfaced about Xinyi lately, we've decided to let fans know what's going on. Yes, Xinyi has a boyfriend. Yes, we have been aware of this. They have been dating since she became a trainee at PREP. It was never stated in our contract that dating is prohibited. Our CEO has been clear that idol's dating lives and their public lives should be separated. It doesn't matter if an idol is dating someone as long as they still take the time to make sure their group can thrive. And Xinyi is. The group is her #1 priority, so no one cares that she may have a boyfriend. We ask fans to respect her decisions and to not give her grief about living her life."

"Due to rumors of me circulating lately, I have been asked to give a statement about them. Yes, they are all true. In the photo that has shown up of me online, I am with my boyfriend. He took a special trip from China to visit me before debut, because I'm not sure when I'll be able to see him again. NextGen is my number one priority at the moment, and I'll let nothing distract me from it. However, the relationships I have outside of the group are still very important to me, so please refrain from sending them any hate. Love you all~"

(F)K-Pop Interview
To go along with the photoshoot
Interview #1: Helena
Q: What was the first piece of music that you bought for yourself, and what was the medium?
A: "Spice" from Spice Girls on vinyl.
Q: What was the first concert you saw?
A: Michael Jackson. To award us for our hard work, our CEO at the time surprised all the trainees with a visit to Europe a few years ago. While we were there we all saw his concert.
Q: Who made you realize you could be an artist full-time?
A: Honestly, it was probably me. I've put in the hard work for this since before I even realized it was what I truly wanted for myself. Now that I'm here, I realize that it was all me who knew I could do this.
Q: What's at the top of your professional bucket list?
A: To dominate every category of the K-industry - music, modeling and acting.
Q: How did your hometown/city shape who you are?
A: It turned me into the unwavering woman I am today. I handled the hard city life while living in poverty, so I've always known that I could handle anything else life threw at me.
Q: You grew up in both Oceanside, California and Seoul, South Korea. Which one feels more like your hometown to you?
A: Probably Seoul. I didn't live in Oceanside very long before my family moved back to Korea.
Q: What's the last song you listened to?
A: "Meet The Plastics" from Mean Girls The Musical.
Q: If you could see any artist in concert, dead or alive, who would it be?
A: The Spice Girls. As I said, I'm a huge fan of them.
Q: Which member of NextGen are you closest to?
A: Heejin. We've been best friends since she joined the company.
Q: And now for the last question, what can we expect from NextGen's debut?
A: Big things. We've been planning this debut for years now, so I think it's safe to say no one will be disappointed when we finally release our first album.

(F)K-Pop Interview
Interview #2: Heejin
Q: What inspired you to leave your old agency and join PREP?
A: Red Hot Entertainment was an agency that focused mostly on acting. When I discovered my passion for singing, I decided that it was time for a career shift and a company shift. So after my contract with Red Hot expired, I began auditioning for several other agencies and eventually ended up with PREP.
Q: How would you describe yourself in five words?
A: Charismatic, mysterious, calm, passionate and iconic.
Q: What has been the most challenging moment in your training and how did you overcome it?
A: It was probably the first week of training. It was hard getting used to the intensive work that came with preparing to debut, along with the new schedules. I had so many panic attacks that week I thought I was going to die. But I reminded myself why I was there and that helped me navigate the new experience. Once I got used to it, it got better.
Q: How do you handle criticism and negative feedback?
A: If it's not helpful, I don't listen to it. If it's not from someone who needs to be criticizing me, I don't listen to it. If a coach criticizes me, then I'll listen to what they say and figure out how to implement it into my life. If not, then I don't listen.
Q: When did you realize that you wanted to pursue a career in music?
A: When I was acting under Red Hot Entertainment, I had an opportunity to take a singing class. I liked this class so much that I realized I wanted to do more with this newfound talent. So I begged my mom to let me join a new agency. It took a while, but I eventually managed to convince her.
Q: What was training under PREP Entertainment like?
A: It was hard. Definitely hard. But it helped me get better, so I can't complain too much. I definitely had a lot of sleepless nights and panic attacks, but it was all worth it in the end.
Q: What's one thing most people don't know about you?
A: I've been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. I have lots of panic attacks that happen regularly. It can be scary, but I've learned how to deal with it, so many people don't notice when I start to panic.
Q: What's your biggest fear in life?
A: Failure. I'm always worried that I'll do something wrong and I'll ruin everything I've worked for. I don't want to destroy my career over one simple mistake, but I'm constantly worried that I will.
Q: Have you ever experienced stage fright?
A: Honestly, I've never been scared of performing itself. I've been scared of things going wrong while performing, but I like going onstage and showing off my talents to people. So no, I can't say I have.
Q: Who has been your biggest influence or mentor?
A: My manager. She's always there to give me encouragement when I need her. I've felt like quitting many times, but she's always there to convince me to stay. She's my mentor, but she's also been my best friend since I joined PREP.

Interview #3: Jieun
Q: How do you manage school work while training for debut?
A: I attend school and get my work done before I even think about training. At PREP, grades are a part of our monthly evaluations. We're given a lot of time to complete our school work. After that, I train extra hard to make up for lost time.
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A: Never stop modeling. I know you thought about it, but know that it leads to better things. It's hard, and it will get harder, but it's worth it.
Q: Would you ever return to modeling?
A: Maybe not actual modeling, but this photoshoot definitely comes close to what I did as a model.
Q: Who is your favorite music artist at the moment?
A: The Beatles.
Q: What's your ideal day off?
A: Sleeping all day.
Q: What's a book or movie that has influenced you significantly?
A: Probably Heathers. That movie has made me look at several things differently than I had used to, like teenage popularity in high school. Also, I just like that movie a lot.
Q: How do you stay motivated during difficult times?
A: I look at how far I come and I remind myself that I can go much further if I keep going.
Q: What is your wake up or bedtime ritual?
A: My wake up routine is simple: meditation, exercise, make up, breakfast, school. I don't really have a bedtime routine. I'm usually lucky to get my make up off before I crash from how tired I am.
Q: How do you define success?
A: By looking it up in the dictionary.
Q: What superpower would you want and why?
A: The power to control time. That way, I can freeze time and sleep longer.

Happy Heejin Day!
Heejin's Birthday Post (2000).png
February 4, 2000

Birthday Q&A
Q: What age are you turning this year?
A: Nineteen. My teenage years are almost done... This is a bit scary.
Q: What are your plans for your birthday?
A: Training hard for debut. Now that it's coming close, I don't have time for days off. The most I'll probably do is eat some cake with the other members of NextGen.
Q: What do you want the most for your birthday this year?
A: To reunite with some old cast members I acted with when I was young.
Q: And last question, what is your favorite birthday desert?
A: Red velvet cake. With extra sprinkles.
Birthday wishes from the members of ๐•น๐–Š๐–๐–™๐•ฒ๐–Š๐–“!
Rosy:
Happy birthday unnie! I'm sorry we can't throw you a party this year, but next year we definitely will!
Helena: Nineteen years looks good on you, Heejin. You'll forever be my best friend, even if our paths eventually split. But right now, we're together and that's all that matters.
Jieun: Wow, Heejin, it's already your birthday! I can't believe how much we've grown together. I also can't believe that I get to keep growing by your side. I hope this birthday is one of your best ones yet!
Miso: Happy birthday Heejin-unnie! I'm not much for words but I did hide a present under your mattress. Enjoy!
Xinyi: I'm so glad I get to debut alongside you. You're such an inspiration to everyone, and I hope that you continue showing the world your amazing talents.
Zara: Happy birthday Heejin! May this day be the best one ever! Love you girl!

Interview #4: Rosy
Q: Who inspired you to become a singer?
A: Jessica Monroe. I first started listening to her when I was young and I've always wanted to be like her.
Q: Who is your favorite American celebrity?
A: Again, definitely Jessica Monroe.
Q: Were you culturally shocked when you moved from America to South Korea?
A: I mean, I had been warned. It was hard to change a lot of the habits I was used to in order to fit the culture of South Korea, but I wouldn't say I was shocked by it.
Q: Which member of NextGen are you the closest to?
A: Miso. She's been my best friend since our trainee days.
Q: How did you end up with natural red hair?
A: Um, I was born with it? I don't really know how to answer this question. Warped genetics, I guess. Somehow my parent's DNA blended perfectly to create a redhead Asian. No one knows how.
Q: What is your favorite movie and why?
A: At the moment it's probably The Parent Trap. I can relate to it because it's about redheads, but I also love the comedy aspect of it.
Q: Is there a specific celebrity who inspired you to pursue a career in K-Pop?
A: I don't have a specific K-Pop idol who inspired me, but as I said before, I was mainly inspired by Jessica Monroe.
Q: Do you have interest in writing your own songs?
A: Yes, and I have written songs in the past. I hope one day I'll get to use some of the songs I've written in an album.
Q: Have you ever choreographed a dance that you performed?
A: Yes, many times. The dance that got me scouted was one I choreographed, and I have also choreographed several for our monthly evaluations. I also choreographed the dance Miso and I did for our cover of "Wannabe" by The Spice Girls.
Q: When was the moment that you learned that you wanted to take your dance hobby to a higher level?
A: When PREP Entertainment scouted me for my dancing. Before then, it was just something I did. Then I realized I could take what I loved and make a career out of it.

Interview #5: Miso
Q: What made you decide to pursue a music career in Korea instead of Japan?
A: It was where I had my chance at a career. Before PREP hosted auditions in my city, I had no idea that I could become a singer outside of Japan. I wasn't even sure if that's what I had wanted. I auditioned because I thought it would be a fun thing to say that I did. I never actually expected to make it into the group, much less debut.
Q: Was it hard to adjust to life in Korea?
A: Yes, it was. None of my family came with me, so I had to adjust to the culture shock along with lots of homesickness and loneliness. It was hard, but Rosy helped me get through it.
Q: Who is your biggest inspiration?
A: Honestly, it's Rosy. She's trained for a shorter amount than I have, but she's improved so much over that course of time that I can't help but admire her. It's because of her that I've kept going with training for so long. If she hadn't joined PREP when she did, I think I probably would've quit.
Q: Have you ever been to any concerts and if so, whose concerts were they?
A: Do orchestra concerts count? I've been to several of those. I can't remember the specific orchestras because they were all when I was younger, but I think I attended about five of them? Six, maybe?
Q: What's it like being the youngest member of NextGen?
A: Well... I imagine it's like being any other member. In NextGen, everyone is equal despite age. The other members treat me as if I were an adult. They never baby me or look down on me, so I think it's pretty good being the youngest member of NextGen, actually.
Q: How was the group name for NextGen decided?
A: Each girl came up with some group name ideas and presented them to the execs of PREP. Then the execs decided which one was their favorite. I believe NextGen was Heejin-unnie's idea. The meaning behind our name is that we are the next generation of pop music. We'll redefine the entire industry and our name will be topping charts for years to come.
Q: Would you ever like to pursue another career in the K-industry, such as acting or modeling?
A: I've always thought acting would be fun. However, for the moment I want to focus on music.
Q: How many years have you been training for?
A: Four.
Q: What is your dream concept?
A: Bad girl. Rebellious. Something with leather jackets and car chases. I think that would be cool.
Q: If you could learn another instrument, which one would you pick?
A: Hm... Flute. I've always thought that the flute was pretty. I've also always wanted to learn a woodwind instrument, I think it would be a lot nicer on my fingers than string instruments, which hurt a lot.

Chapter 6
Dear Diary,

I've never been so exhausted. We haven't even been given our official debut album yet and they've worked us to the bone.

Okay, let me explain. Apparently, they're still deciding some details for the album and so they haven't given us a set tracklist or anything yet. However, they knew that Jieun and I both write songs so they have been asking us for song we've written. Last week, they gave me back a song I wrote with a backing track and asked for my thoughts on it. I liked it, so they did that with the rest of my songs. Apparently, they did the same thing with Jieun's.

Then they asked me to choreograph some dances to a mix of songs both me and her wrote. After talking with Jieun, we realized that she had been asked to compose instrumentals for some songs as well. So we're guessing that they're going to be using these songs in either the debut album or later albums, which would be so cool! I didn't think I would get to write my own songs this early on, but it's amazing that I get to!

Two days ago, they asked me to record all my choreographies and send them into the execs. I did. Then today, when we went into our dance lessons, guess which choreography we started to learn?

One for a song that I choreographed the dance to.

If this doesn't end up being our title track, I am going to scream because I am absolutely in love with this song. It's called "Change". Written by some famous songwriter or whatever, I don't actually know who she is. But the song itself is amazing and it was so fun to choreograph! I already have music video ideas for it, if they'll actually take my adviceโ€ฆ

I'm just so excited for this! Debut is coming up so quickly! Although we don't have all the information yet, I really believe that this album will make people talk about us for years to come. There's no way it won't.

Anyways, I have to go now. Duty calls! I've got songs to choreograph and a debut to prepare for.

~Rosy

Rosy tucked her diary into her bag before standing up and stretching. She had been working for hours to choreograph a new song she had been given, entitled "Puzzle". There was one advanced move that she had been hoping to master so she could throw it into the choreography, because she thought it fit well. But no matter how many times she did it, she just couldn't seem to master it. Eventually, she had become so annoyed that she forced herself into a thirty minute break. After writing for that time, she felt ready to begin again.

She started up the song again, wanting to listen to it as she practiced the dance move. That way, she would know it really well and be able to think of more choreography ideas as she focused on the one part. She closed her eyes and crouched down. The idea was simple: lower yourself onto the ground, lay down, then pop back up onto your feet. But for some reason, Rosy always ended up losing her balance at the last second and falling back down onto her butt.

Rosy got into position for her next attempt, lowering herself down. Then she brought her legs in and propelled herself up using only the strength of her legs. It almost seemed that she had gotten it until she lost her balance and toppled back down onto the floor.

"Oof, you were so close that time!" came a voice from the doorway. Rosy looked over to see a tall frame in the doorway. With a bun of black curls placed precariously on top of her head and wearing worn out sweats, Zara still managed to look like a runway model who was about to walk.

"How long were you watching?" Rosy asked. Zara chuckled and stepped inside the room.

"I've been walking up and down the hallway for a while and spotted you through the window about an hour ago. I must admit, you've impressed me. I would've given up hours ago. How long have you been going at this?"

Rosy glanced at the clock before looking back at Zara.

"Four hours."

Zara's eyes widened in amazement. "Girl, you missed dinner. How do you still have the energy for this?"

Rosy shrugged. "Whenever I find a movement that I can't do, I work for hours until I can master it. I usually only remember my needs once I've perfected the movement."

Zara was quiet for a moment, her sharp eyes studying Rosy. Finally, she spoke again. "I guess I now understand why they put a 13-year-old on the team. At first, I was a bit confused when they announced you and Miko as part of the group."

The younger girl opened her mouth to say something, but Zara held up a hand for silence.

"It's not because of a lack of talent that I was hesitant. You and Miko are both very talented. But the idol industry is hard. You have the be resiliant, as resiliant as stone to survive it. I wasn't sure you had what it took, butโ€ฆ"

She looked around the room, at Rosy's bag in the corner, contents dumped out around it. Then she looked at Rosy, whose hair was a mess and clothes were dirty from all the time spent on the floor. Then she finished her thought.

"It's obvious I was wrong. I think you spend the most time training out of anyone in the group."

"There's a reason I'm the best trainee who specializes in dance," grinned Rosy.

"Tell you what: Once you perfect your move, I'll treat you to dinner. Anywhere you want. This company loves me too much to tell me no."

Rosy snickered, then nodded.

"Deal."

***

It took another hour, but Rosy had finally managed to land the move successfuly a few times. Then she had tried again, but her limbs were so tired that they couldn't even lift her up anymore.

So she packed up her stuff and hurried to find Zara, which wasn't that difficult. She was sitting in the lobby, reading a magazine while sipping on a cappuccino.

"Finally, you're here!" she stood up and threw the magazine onto the end table next to her. "Where to for dinner? Minseong is waiting in the car outside."

Minseong was the girl's official driver. Rosy and Zara walked out and immediately spotted his dark black car parked on the side of the road. Minseong stepped out of the driver's seat to open the passenger door for the girls. Rosy got in first, then scooted over so Zara could follow. Once Minseong was back in his seat, Rosy told them her choice of restaurant.

"Anywhere that serves hamburgers. I haven't had American food in so long and it's been the one thing I've been craving lately."

Zara laughed, then turned to Minseong. "You heard her. Let's go find some burgers."

Minseong nodded, then started off.

"You do realize that the managers will kill you if they learn about this, right?" Zara asked Rosy.

"You said it could be anything! And I think I deserve it after doing nothing but dancing all day."

Zara shrugged. "Fair enough."

The car went silent again, until Rosy spoke up. "Hey, Zara-unnie?"

"Please, no honorifics. It makes me feel old."

Rosy smiled slightly at that. "Well, um, Zara?"

"Yes, Rosy?"

"Could I ask you a question?"

"Anything."

"What happened to IT GIRLZ? I mean, uh, if you don't mind me askingโ€ฆ"

Zara shook her head. "No, it's okay. I figure plenty of people are curious. Do you wish to know what truly happened to the group?"

Rosy nodded, so Zara took a breath and began her story.

"It wasn't a good situation. No one in the group was at a good place, and I think deep down we all knew that we weren't ready to debut. Xinyi and I were the oldest, so we were the most mature. We were the first to realize that the group wasn't going to work out. After two releases, no one knew our name. There was a lot of in fighting between members, which even got so bad that two girls stopped talking to each other. So we quit. That was the wake up call to our company, so they disbanded the project. The other girls will never forgive us, but I hope eventually they'll realize that we saved them."

Rosy sat there in silence for a few moments before speaking again. "Wow, Zaraโ€ฆ That must have taken a lot of bravery. If I were in that position, I don't think I could leave. I wouldn't want to give up everything I'd worked for."

"And it was hard," Zara agreed. "But there comes a time where you know you have to do something, and you also know that if you don't do it then it will be bad."

"I hope NextGen doesn't end up like that," Rosy said.

"Me, too," Zara agreed. "But I have faith in us. We will succeed where IT GIRLZ failed."

"Do you really believe so?" Rosy asked her.

Zara nodded. "I really do."

Chapter 7
Dear Diary,

It's crazy to think that I've only started living with these girls a month ago. Not even a month ago at that, it's only been like two weeks! Or has it been three? My perception of time has been lost due to all these sleepless nights I've been having.

Anyways, what was I talking about again?

Oh yeah, I remember.

It's crazy how quickly we've picked up the art of being siblings. We all quickly assigned each other roles and were quick to go along with them. The execs didn't even need to tell us what they wanted us to do, we just assigned them ourselves without thinking about it.

Zara is our mother. Well, mother figure, I guess. Older sister, if you'd prefer. She's the one who takes care of us, checks up on us, makes sure none of us are skipping meals (which I am very good at doing). If you have a problem, you go to Zara. But she's also the one who has to break up the fights. She's strict yet sweet at the same timeโ€ฆ An odd combo, but it works well with her.

Xinyi is like our father. Everyone sees her as a kind of second leader, but she's more of a background player. Although she's the oldest, Zara is more likely to take chare of the situation. Xinyi is the one who boosts your confidence when you're feeling low, or to offer you a tissue if you're crying. Just don't ask her to help you fix your make up after crying, she's clueless about that (which is really funny given that she's been doing this longer than most of us).

Helena is our older sister. She's likeโ€ฆ The teenage sister who's obsessed with calling boys until three in the morning and fixing her mascara every twenty minutes. She knows she's the prettiest out of everyone and loves to hold that over our heads. It's Zara's job to shut down her attitude whenever she gets too cocky about this.

Heejin is the emo older sister. The very mysterious one. The sister who has "Do Not Enter" signs posted all over her door (she actually does have this. The room she shares with Helena and Jieun are filled with these signs). If you invade her personal space, she
will bite. She's constantly listening to music and gets grumpy if you try to talk to her over it. She drives Xinyi insane because she never listens to anything anyone says and leaves a constant mess everywhere.

Jieun is the calm, slightly shy sister. She is the only one who can get Helena and Heejin to chill whenever they get in one of their moods. She does most of the cleaning because she claims that it relaxes her after a tough day of training. If you hear the sink running at two in the morning, it's most likely Jieun doing dishes. She's Xinyi's favorite because she does all the housework for her.

I am the sassy younger child. I give everyone grief about everything, even if I don't need to (most of this is when the camera is on - I'm actually very respectful when the whole world isn't watching). But for the sake of our appearances, I have to seem like I am the dramatic child who has mastered sarcasm and uses it 24/7. Don't get me wrong, I love being dramatic. But being dramatic all the time gets tiring evenetually.

Miko is the comic relief. She's unnaturally clumsy (I can't tell you how many plates she's broken when the cameras are rolling so she can be "relateable"). She's also known for making stupid puns at the worst moment. In reality, Miko is very good at making jokes. Everyone loves to joke around with her. But her role is that of the terrible jokester. So even if we think the joke is funny, we have to act like it's terrible. Which I feel bad for, but it is what it is.

Today, we'll add the last two members of our family. We've already decided their roles, so we just have to find the trainees that best fit these roles - the deadbeat uncle and the wine aunt. No, the members of NextGen didn't decide these roles. The execs did. So I feel sorry for whoever fits the role of the "deadbeat uncle," but whatever. Hopefully she's actually super sweet when the camera is off.

I should probably head to bed now. Tomorrow is a big day, after all. We get to have a say in who the final members of NextGen are! Hooray!

~Rosy

The room was cold and cramped. All the members of NextGen, along wtih several PREP execs, had gathered to decide the final two members of NextGen. Of the original PREP trainees, only ten remained after intense elimination rounds. It was up to the fifteen gathered in the meeting room to decide which two girls were fit to fill the missing members of NextGen.

"Who's all remaining?" Helena asked one of the execs, who handed her a sheet. The other six girls gathered around her as she read the list.

"Dahyun, Chaerin, Chaehyun, Nora, Rora, Veronica, Jaeyeon, Sasha, Miyeong and Sohee," she read off. "Given what I know about all of them, I think my money would be on Veronica and Sasha."

"Really? Those two?" Rosy scoffed.

"They don't really fit our criteria, though," Heejin said, taking the list so she could compare it to the checklist they had to complete in order to find the new member.

Zara and Xinyi took their seats, letting the girls who were familiar with the trainees debate.

"We haven't seen them perform yet. Shouldn't we leave this until after?" Miko asked.

"We're doing a pre-screening," Jieun said.

"I think Rora would be a good pick," Rosy said. "She'd pick up the dancing slack," she casted an accusing look at her fellow members, who were all too focused on the vocal parts of the songs to properly learn Rosy's choreography. The members all avoided her gaze awkwardly.

"Oh, you're right, Rora does fit with the criteria on the checklist," Heejin agreed.

"We still have to see how she performs today!" Miko huffed.

"And we will," Zara promised her.

One of the execs, an older man whose name Rosy could never remember, stood up on the stage and silenced everyone. "Silence, please! We will begin bringing in the trainees. Please pick up a checklist and fill it out honestly throughout the performances. At the very end, we will collect these and have a discussion using them to pick the last two members. At the end of today, NextGen will be nine!"

His speech was met with a thundering round of applause. He stepped outside to get the first trainee, and everyone sat down. Rosy picked up her checklist, excited to begin.

The first trainee that stepped inside was Dahyun. Each trainee had prepared a thirty second clip of a song that included vocals and dance. Rosy quickly scribbled notes as Dahyun performed, trying to be as in-depth as she could. Once Dahyun was done, they were given two minutes to finish before the next trainee was sent in.

It felt like hours before they were done. By the time Sohee was done performing, Rosy's hand was cramped so bad that she was scared it would no longer move. A quick glance at the other six members showed that they were feeling similar. Helena was rubbing her sore hand with her good hand, Heejin was staring at the stage with a blank look on her face and Jieun and Miko were both chatting instead of taking down notes.

Finally, Zara rounded them all up. "Alright, here's the plan: We'll decide our top two and the execs will decide their top two. Then we'll get together and make a final decision together."

The girls all nodded, then got to conversing. They quickly realized that Rosy had been right all along and Rora was the best pick for a group, which she was very proud of. Then they chose their second member: Veronica, due to Helena's insistance.

"I just don't think she fits, though," Miko whispered to Rosy as they turned to the execs for the final decision.

"Well, we'll see what the execs have to say. They do have the final decision, after all," she whispered back.

"Alright, what were your top two picks?" the old man who had spoke earlier asked the girls.

"Rora and Veronica," Zara said. "Rora has extraordinary dance talent that we desperately need in the group. Besides Miko, Rosy and Jieun, our group is mostly focused on vocals. Bringing in another member for dance would balance it out greatly. As for Veronica, we think that she would get along with the group well. She'd be that extra piece that compliments our personalities. As for talents, I think she'd be a good all-rounder. We could put her wherever we need to and she would do well."

The execs nodded, then discussed amongst themselves for a moment. Finally, a woman in her late thirties spoke. "We agree with your choice of Rora. We do believe that she would balance out the talent in your group greatly. She will take the role of lead dancer. However, we don't think Veronica would be the best pick for the ninth member."

"Then who do you think it should be?" Xinyi asked, her eyes filled with nothing but curiosity.

"Chaehyun," the woman said. This surprised all the girls, as they hadn't seen Chaehyun's performance as anything special. They focused their attention on the woman as she spoke, all curious as to why she felt this way. "As you said, we need to balance out the group. There are nine members with three major roles we need to fill: rapper, dancer and vocalist. Jieun already fills our all-rounder category, so we don't need another. Zara, Xinyi and Heejin are your best vocalists. Rora, Miko and Rosy are your best dancers. Jieun and Helena are your best rappers, although as I said before, Jieun is great in every category. But to even it out, you need another rapper. Which is why you need Chaehyun. Her rapping talent is almost as good as Helena's."

The girls all shared at glance, finding the exec's reasoning acceptable. They all understood, at least. They did need another rapper if they were going to even out the group.

Finally, Zara stood and bowed. "It would be our honor to accept them into the group."

The woman stood and nodded as well. "Perfect. They will be moved into your dorm tomorrow morning."

Chapter 8
Dear Diary,

Rora is a perfect fit for the group. She's funny, talkative and talented. She gets along with everyone, and even the populars can't resist her charm! She's still not as good at dancing as I am, but she's getting there (although I'm not sure if that's a good thing or notโ€ฆ). She's from Japan like Miko, so they get along well.

We've given her the role of wine aunt, which I think is hilarious. She does a really good job at it as well. Whenever we record for a live, she'll always grab a juice box and make a big deal of drinking out of it. Then she'll make a funny remark that will be so out of nowhere that it'll have everyone laughing, even Heejin, who lacks a funny bone.

Chaehyun is a different story, however. She's very shy. Whenever one of us try to include her in something, she always locks herself up in her room. Even for the lives, she's nowhere to be found. I guess it leans into the "deadbeat uncle" stereotype, but I'm starting to worry that this will damage the group's relationship.

I'm hoping that once she warms up to us, she'll be more social. Miko and I share a room with her and Rora, so maybe with the three of us working together we can get her to open up. We've already tried a few things, like a spa day and combined practicing. But she rejected us every time. She insists on practing by herself and is always zoned out whenever we practice together. I don't know what the execs were thinking when they put her into the group.

I guess only time will tell with her, but I don't know. I'm kind of hoping that the execs will realize she's not a good fit for us at the last minute and remove her. I don't even care if they replace her with someone else, I just don't want her unfriendly nature to ruin the group.

Anyways, onto happy things! Today the execs are finally going to be meeting with us to tell us about our group! I'm so excited for this, I can't believe we're already nearing debut time! It's crazy! Hopefully after this meeting, we'll start preparing for the debut album. Then I estimate that it should only be two or three more months before our official debut.

Wow, I really can't wait for that! It's so close!

It's almost time for us to go. I should get ready. You know, dress to impress and all that (although I have already
amazed the execs of this company multiple times over, but a little extra charm never hurt anyone!)

~Rosy

Three hours later, the nine members of NextGen sat in a meeting with five execs of PREP. Rosy recognized them all from evaluations, but she remembered none of their names. All she knew was that they were old and powerful.

Of the five, there were three men and two women. The youngest was one of the women, who appeared to be in her early thirties. Everyone else was sporting the early signs of aging, such as wrinkles.

The man seated in the middle of the table began the meeting. "As you girls may have guessed, we have gathered you all here to begin talk of your debut. Now that we have revealed all nine members, it's time for you to begin preparations towards debut."

The girls all exchanged excited glances before a cough from the man brought their focus back.

"Your group will be entitled NextGen, signifying the next generation of Korean music culture. Everything you do will have never been done before. We will set trends that will be talked about for years in the future. One special thing about this group is that it will be done in units. Each album will present a new line-up of members chosen from you nine."

"Will we ever get an album with all nine of us?" Xinyi inquired. The execs all cast her an annoyed glance, but the younger woman just chuckled.

"Eventually, yes. You will all be featured on an album together eventually. But the public isn't used to girl groups of large amounts, so we need to allow them to get to know each of you first, before dropping you all on them."

Xinyi nodded, although it still didn't make much sense to her. Why not just split the group up and run with two groups instead of going through all this effort for units?

"May I continue?" the exec in the middle asked irritably. The woman nodded and gestured for him to go on. He cleared his throat, then continued to tell the girls about their future group.

"One or two members will be in charge of producing the album, which will include lyrics, instrumental, choreography, music videos, performances, productions, and of course, the members of the unit. You will be given help with this, however. We have chosen coaches for each section to guide you as you make these decisions. Each member will have the chance to create an album."

Rosy thought she knew where this was going, so she sat on the edge of her seat excitedly. Surely they hadn't had her working on choreography all this time for nothing.

"The members who will be in charge of your debut album are Jieun and Rosy-" he didn't get to finish his thought before the girls all exploded in excitement and rage.

"You're going to be writing an album!" Miko squealed excitedly as she shook Rosy, who had zoned out in shock. Her mouth and eyes were wide open, the force of Miko's shaking not breaking her surprise.

"Why Rosy?" Helena huffed, disgust evident on her features.

"Don't worry, you'll get your turn!" Jieun grinned at her, attempting to soothe her friend. Helena just cast her a glare.

"How many tracks will there be?" Rora asked.

"How was this decided?" Chaehyun asked.

"Shuh guys, let him talk!" Zara tried to calm the girls down, but they were too loud for her to shout over them. Xinyi met her eyes and shrugged.

"Who will be in the unit, though?" Heejin voiced the question that was in everyone's mind.

"Be quiet, and they'll tell you!" Xinyi said, which finally got everyone to calm down and turn their attention back to the exhausted execs. The one in the middle took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose and seemed to be questioning his choice in career before responding.

"There will be five members in this unit. Two of those members will be Jieun and Rosy. They will choose the other three."

The two exchanged a glance, not even having to ask each other who their picks were before they spoke them.

"Oh, well, that's easy," Jieun said. "The other three members will be Helena, Heejin and Miko."
