Chapter 9
Dear Diary,

Our debut is finally getting set in motion! From now on, I will be Rosy, the member of the K-Pop group NextGen! Our concept is going to be super cool as well. Well, we get to decide the concept. It'll chance with each album depending on what we want it to be.

Since Jieun and I are in charge of the debut album, we get to decide what the concept will be. The concept will determine what the music videos, photobooks and outfits all look like. Based on what our songs sound like so far, I think we could take a number of routes for our concept. I think a cute concept would do the best, since that seems to be what the K-Pop world wants right now, but Jieun wants to focus on a more mature concept. (Which I think is stupid because out of nine members, only five are actual adults).

Today we'll be meeting with some execs to come up with a compromise. In the meeting, we'll be deciding the concept, tracklist and we'll begin some brainstorming on title tracks and music videos. I'm so excited!

I'm going to try and write down some of my ideas before the meeting begins so I'm prepared, so today's entry will be short. Sorry, not sorry! I'll write later, I promise!

~Rosy

Rosy slammed her diary shut with more force than she had intended, but now that she was thinking about their debut album, the ideas were slamming into her head with full force. Excitement flowing through her veins, she lept off her bed and ran to her backpack, where she kept her notebooks. Once these had been used for school, but she hadn't paid much attention to schooling since she had started training. She had done it, of course. One of PREP's monthly evaluation requirements was that they were passing their classes. So she had been focusing on the bare minimum, but that had been it.

Most of her notebooks were filled with song lyrics or concept ideas, so Rosy had to search to find a blank page. Once she did, she began writing down all her ideas for the debut album.

She started with the songs she knew they were using, and songs she had written that she thought would be cool to use in the debut album. Then she sorted them into an order that she thought they would be good in. She figured Jieun would have some songs as well, so she kept some space open for those. Then she put down her ideas for the concept: outfits, music video locations, storylines. She focused on the cute side, but stopped when a new idea came. She gasped, realizing it was perfect. She quickly jotted everything down for this new idea, now even more excited to share it. When she was done, she threw everything into her bag and went to the kitchen for a snack before the meeting.

Jieun was already waiting for her, pacing in the living room nervously as she waited for Rosy to come out of her room.

"Finally!" she huffed when she saw her. "Are you ready to go?"

"Yep, let me just grab something to eat real quick," Rosy said, heading over to the cabinet where they kept the snacks. After grabbing a bag of crackers and a water bottle, she followed Jieun out to the stairs.

"Why are you so nervous?" Rosy asked as they walked downstairs.

"Because I'm not ready to put my work out into the world. I didn't think that we would be participating in the album this soonโ€ฆ I mean, most of the time, the companies are the ones who take care of creating the albums. We just do what they tell us to, and I thought that's what we were going to do!" Jieun said all this in one breath, having to stop and gasp for air when she was done. Rosy, however, didn't see the issue with this.

"What do you mean? This is an amazing opportunity!" she replied. "This menas we'll end up with songs we actually like, and we'll make more off the album because of it!"

Jieun sighed. "I suppose you're right. I just can't help but worry that my songs won't be as good because I'm new to the songwriting stuffโ€ฆ"

Rosy shrugged. "What I've heard from you so far is really good. I think you just need to have some faith in yourself."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah."

They made the rest of the walk in thoughtful silence. When they arrived to the meeting room, the rest of the execs were already waiting.

"Welcome girls, take a seat," said an older lady that Rosy recognized as CEO Oh's daughter, Oh Min-Ah. She looked just like her mother, with sharp features and blazing gray eyes, but she also had a softer, kinder look in her eyes. She was one of the execs for the company, and the only one that had gained Rosy's respect so far. The rest of them were lazy people only in the entertainment business for the money. "They couldn't spot talent if it slapped them in the face," she was constantly saying about them.

Jieun and Rosy sat next to each other in the last two seats that were available at the end of the long table. Rosy pulled out her notebook and flipped it to the page with all her notes while Jieun fidgeted nervously with a bracelet on her arm.

"Alright, let's get to business!" CEO Oh declared, pulling out a folder. Everyone at the table had a notebook, so Rosy handed Jieun her science notebook and a pencil from her backpack. Jieun flashed her a thankful smile as she opened it up to a blank page.

"Concept ideas?" Rosy asked hopefully, which made CEO Oh smile.

"Ah, excited to get started, are we?" she asked.

"Yes," Rosy said. "And I already have several ideas."

"Of course you do. What else do we expect from our brightest trainee?" she said happily. "What are your ideas, Rosy?"

The other execs gave her a side eye or a glare, depending on how bold they were. Rosy guessed they didn't like CEO Oh's idea of letting teenage girls create the album, but Rosy didn't care. As long as the CEO was impressed with her ideas, she didn't mind what anyone else in the room thought. So, she took a breath and began her presentation.

"What has been the number one question on everyone's mind since K-Pop became popular?" Rosy asked, knowing none of them would know the answer unless if they had been online a lot recently. Fortunately for her, Rosy spent her lunch break at school everyday researching the industry and what the netizens were finding to be the best ideas that idols did, so she knew the one thing everyone was interested in knowing.

"Everyone is interested in the trainee process. How are we scouted and turned into perfect idols that can rehearse all day, then do a live performance without breaking a sweat? How are we made to be the backbone of the industry, and how does it keep us from breaking?" Rosy looked around the room, making sure everyone was invested before she continued. "I want to focus on the backbone side. How we were made resiliant, to stand the hate from sasaengs, the threat of failure. It will be a mix of a cute and mature concept. The cute concept will show what we are supposed to be like: feminine, delicate and loveable. The mature concept will show the other side, the darker side. The side that makes us strong. The side that makes us women."

The room had gone dead silent, everyone staring at Rosy as she spoke. She could tell that even the toughest of execs were impressed by her skills, and she couldn't help but smiling as she continued. A quick look to Jieun confirmed that even her fellow group member was interested in this concept for a group.

"It will be called Baby V.O.X, which stands for Voice of Expression. The 'baby' in the title shows off our cute side, and this will encompass the first half of the album. The second half, Voice of Expression, will encompass the mature side. Voice of Expression shows that we are telling our story. We are willingly showing the world what created us, and we're strong because of how we were made. Any questions?"

A younger male exec slowly raised his hand. "What are your ideas for the music videos?"

Rosy pulled out three pages from her notebook that she had torn out earlier. She passed them around the table, so the execs could look through them. "These are my ideas. But I also know that Jieun-unnie had some ideas of her own, and since I kind of took over with my group idea, I think she should be the one to tell you her music video ideas."

She turned to the older girl, hoping that Jieun had come with something prepared. She sat there silently for a moment, until she finally looked up at the execs. "I was hoping to focus on a mature concept for the album, so I'm grateful that Rosy included that in her idea. I think what she said is a great compromise to what each of us was hoping to do. As for music video ideas, I've been preparing this for a while." She held up a small scrap book she had been hiding in the pocket of her hoodie and passed it up to the front of the table, where CEO Oh was. "This includes my ideas for outfits, scenes and storylines."

CEO Oh picked up the notebook and flipped through it. There was a moment of silence before she finally set it down and said, "This is perfect, girls. We'll dive deeper into this concept idea later, but I think this is an amazing start for both of you. I'm so glad you're taking this seriously. You may all be dismissed."

Chapter 10
(Note: Chapters are probably going to be a little shorter from now on due to lack of time to write them...)
Dear Diary,

It's only been a few days since we settled on our debut album, but things have been so crazy since then. Jieun and I have finally hammered out the tracklist, which will consist of 26 songs. A lot, I know. It will be divided into a few mini albums however, and that's how we'll release them. Hopefully that'll make everything much more manageable.

Out of the 26 songs, 7 of those will be solos for Jieun and I. She'll have three, as that's how many she wrote. I'll get four, because that's how many I wrote. Duh. They said we could've gotten more, depending on how much work we were willing to put into it, but this is my debut album. I'm not sure if I'm ready to promote many solo songs yet. Perhaps once I'm more experienced I will.

I feel like I haven't gotten much sleep in weeks. Every spare moment is spent practicing. We don't even have much time to eat anymore. Even when we're sleeping, our thoughts are still on debut. I've woken up several times to Miko sleep dancing around the room to some silent song. Luckily for Jieun and Chaehyun, they don't have to worry about this stress just yet. They've had to kick Miko and I out of the room several times so they could get sleep because we've refused to stop our vocal practices for the night. Each time, we've promised them we will do the same to them when it comes time for their debut.

I'm still not sure why the company doesn't want us to debut together, but I'm not mad about it. If I had to choreograph a dance for nine instead of just five, I think I would've gone insane. I'm only 13โ€ฆ Why are they putting all this on me? I mean, sure, I volunteered, but it sure would be easier if they gave me someone to help with all this. Between writing songs and choreographing, then teaching all those things to the other members, I've been so stressed that even if I had time to sleep and eat, it definitely wouldn't happen.

Maybe this is why other companies handle this stuff.

I'm so tired.

~Rosy (Added the next morning because I fell asleep writingโ€ฆ Whoopsโ€ฆ)

Rosy woke up the next morning to a pounding headache and an empty stomach. A glance at the clock told her that she was an hour late to practice, although she was unsure why the other members had let her sleep in for this long. Or how she had. She had fallen asleep in the living room, so surely she would've heard the mad morning rush as everyone prepared to leave.

Maybe they tried to wake her and she wouldn't.

It had been days since she had last slept, after all. Her growing body needed all the sleep it could get, and a growl from her stomach reminded her that she also needed food for her growing body.

She sighed and sat up, wincing as her back popped. She had fallen asleep sitting on the floor, so her legs, back and neck all protested as she tried to move.

She stumbled to the kitchen, groaning as she walked. She stopped in surprise when she saw Zara sitting at the counter, reading a book while drinking a protien shake. She looked up when Rosy walked in, a concerned look in her eyes.

"Are you alright, Rosy? You look like you just got hit by a train," she said, to which Rosy gave her an annoyed look.

"I feel like I just got hit by a train."

"Don't worry about going to practice today," Zara said as Rosy opened the fridge and began searching for food. "The other girls already informed the managers you wouldn't make it. They felt you needed all the rest you could. You've been performing at half your usual energy level lately. We all agreed a day of rest could do you well. The others will work on practicing the choreography you've already taught them."

Rosy turned to Zara, mouth agape. A break? This close to debut? That was insane! But one look at Zara's fierce gaze made her realize the woman wouldn't let Rosy anywhere out of the apartment, which was probably why she was still here. She had been left behind to babysit her.

"I don't need you to watch me. We're getting so close to debutโ€ฆ"

"You fell asleep while dancing yesterday. I didn't think that was possible! You've been pushing yourself harder than you need to, Rosy. This break is deserved. Even the managers agreed after they heard what a mess you've been lately."

"You think I've been a mess?" she asked angrily. "I've been working so hard-"

"Too hard," Zara said calmly, not letting Rosy's screaming get to her. "Which is why we all agreed you need a break. So off to bed you go. I promise, you'll still be debuting tomorrow. And you'll be better prepared for it rested than not. Imagine falling asleep while dancing onstageโ€ฆ That would be truly terrible, wouldn't it?"

Rosy huffed, but she couldn't argue. Once again, the mother of the group struck. Zara was right, she had been off her A game lately. Maybe a break was needed.

So she simply sighed and made her way to her bedroom, where she spent the rest of the day catching up on her rest.
