I'm honestly so confused. I know alot of people from my school that can speak at least 3-4 languages. But outside of my school most people only speak 1 language? My school isn't anything special so I don't know. How many languages do you speak? I need to know to ease my mind please❣️❣️❣️

i think the "normal" amount of languages to know depends on where you are.

where i live, its "normal" i guess to know 2: spanish (primary languague) and english (taught at most schools to varying degrees of fluency). at my university, for humanities degrees you're required to at least be at intermediate fluency in a third language.

i know in some other countries it might be normal to know more languages than that; from what i understand i think in india on average people may speak 3 or more languages. in other places it might be normal to just know one. there's other factors too, for instance, people from immigrant backgrounds will speak their "mother tongue" and the language of their host country, which may be more than one for either of them. etc.

personally, i speak 3: im fluent in spanish and english (i went to a school that really emphasized teaching english, although i didn't realize it until much later), and at roughly intermediate fluency in italian (im getting a bit rusty but i have to brush up for my fluency test for my master's degree). i hope to learn more; im planning on hitting the books again for korean this year.

don't worry too much about what is "normal"; everyone's gonna have different ideas about what's "normal".

I’d say 1-2. Personally I only understand and speak one fluently which is English. However, I can understand Spanish very vaguely, like very. Enough to structure a sentence and speak it with a bad accent.

I think most people only speak one, but quite a few speak two. I speak 3 (varying levels as I'm still learning) but I don't know too many other people who do that

I think it's good if u can speak 2 (especially english)
The least u can do is to speak ur contry's language😅
In Europe people usually speak 3 bcuz we start english classes at a pretty young age and we often learn another language from mid or high school
