Is it the sales which I believe indicate their Korean fandoms or views which indicate international fandoms and possibly tours and concerts overseas.

I don't know if this sounds dumb asking this question but I am really curious because less known groups tend to do well in one of them and not both. In your opinion what is more important for the groups at least for smaller groups to survive in the industry.

Being more successful in Korea means they would win more music shows and awards, and they wouldn't have to worry so much about communicating in different languages.
If they were more successful internationally they would probably be more famous overall, but wouldn't win as many awards and such.
For example: ATEEZ is incredibly popular internationally, but not as much in Korea. This is why they have only won music show for one of their more laid back songs, "Wave". On the other hand a group like Gfriend is not very popular internationally, but very popular in Korea, making them a girl group who has won some of the most music shows since debut.

Exactly though I mean Gfriend is so similar to Apink for instance
Ateez shares the similar story to Dreamcatcher, Loona, ACE
Honestly I feel like a lot of small groups are more popular internationally but not in Korea tbh

i think that doing well outside of korea is on some level the goal of all kpop artists (kpop and the hallyu wave were initially thought up as South Korea's export business, although nowadays it seems that gaming is netting more profit in that department).

but between sales and views, album sales are more important bc that's money that goes directly back to the company (and hopefully the artists). if a group can't sell enough albums to net a profit, even a small one, then they become a loss for the company. and no company is gonna keep investing money in a project that isn't going to make money back.

views are still important in their own way, but i think views for sponsored and variety content are more important than music video views, because it shows advertisers and promoters that the artist has a fanbase that can be tapped into and that working with this artist is profitable for them. which means the artist can get promotional deals and such, which bring in more profits for the company and artist. i remember, i think last year or earlier this year, minhyuk from monsta x mentioned how important it is for the group that their sponsored videos get views (i think he was referring to their twotuckgom collaboration videos) because it makes them more attractive to advertisers and ultimately translates to more content from the group for the fans.

music video views are significant in that they reflect a large fanbase, a dedicated fanbase, and/or viral success. by themselves they don't mean much, but what it means in the big picture is worth noting. a large amount of views on a music video without the sales to back it up is not very useful i think in the long run.

i'm not an expert on the industry of course, this is just what i've pieced together from observation.

edit: additionally, its not as if album sales, in terms of profit, discriminate between won and other currencies lol as an international fan i am still contributing to their album sale numbers if i buy the album (and if i get it at hanteo or gaon certified seller it counts for korean charts as well).
