I got curious after seeing the term kpop everywhere and checked out BTS. I watched a few mvs but didn't decide to really get into it until after I saw Jungkook sitting on a grocery cart on ice.

I saw some editing on Tumblr and the bg music was Heart Attack by EXO so I put the song on repeat without knowing what it was or where it came from, then an ad for the I Smile - DAY6 MV popped up and I watched the MV and was addicted so I listened to What Can I Do.. THEN I saw on one of my fav blogs and they had a lot of EXO Xiumin content, so I was hooked after I saw their fanart for Power by EXO :) thanks tumblr :)

From what I remember, I was randomly scrolling through Youtube, when a new video
was being pushed in my feed. That was CLC's Pepe, aka their debut song! Because of
that I also found Hotshot's debut, and things have progressed since then, haha!

EXO was the first band. Luckily I had a friend from South Korea, it was even better.

people hating on kpop is what got me into kpop lol.
it started off with me joining in on the bandwagon hate, and then i would listen to like the first few seconds of a song and make fun of it and turn it off, but then i actually sat myself down to listen to it thinking that it couldn't be that bad and that i should give it a try before i hate on it and now here i am! absolutely in love with it lol

Basically YG family lol >< I had some classmates of mine tell me about Gangnam Style, which I was oblivious to before it was brougt up to me. After watching the M/V I got super hooked and then got sucked into a wormhole of Gangnam Style remixes and mashups featuring Big Bang and 2NE1 songs, which got me into those groups.

Tumblr is both a blessing and a curse sometimes! But it's amazing for fanart! Also, Xiumin is like one of my ultimate biases so of course it's totally understandable to me that his fanart helped get you hooked ;)

Yeah, I feel like many people hate on it without giving it a proper try first. And those that ask how we deal with it being in a foreign language don't realize that there's so much more to it. The beats, the rhythm, the members. And whatever we don't understand, there's usually subtitles for :p😂

Well i heard ddu du ddu du/ DNA before and i never really got into it but a couple months after i searched up Blackpink's Instagrams because a couple of people followed them but then my explore page recommended little videos of kpop songs/MV/Stages (like what people posted on their accounts) I skipped through them but then I watched a small clip of a gogobebe teaser and because of that youtube recommended the MV and I watched it, then proud to say I've been gay for Moonbyul and Hwasa ever since. Then i started to listen to other groups and watched MV's and yeah, i got addicted.

K-pop wan't really on my radar till last year. I'm frequently on Twitch, especially watching miniature painting streams. The one I visit most regularly has song requests enabled, so you can link to YouTube vids and it'll play the audio. Several streams running, one of the other regular chatters requested Twice's Like Ooh-Aah. First couple of times it washed over me, but after hearing it on three or four consecutive streams, it started getting into my head, and I decided to head over to YouTube and see what else they'd done.
That kinda snowballed into watching a lot of Twice, and for a while, it was just Twice.

A while later I was chatting to friend with whom I have a bit of a cultural exchange thing going on; linking each other to cool music and such that we find. I showed them some Twice, and they recommended I check out a Japanese singer called Ayumi Hamasaki, particularly a song of hers called Fly High. I liked it, followed her on YT, but in the recommended list was another song called Fly High... by Dreamcatcher.

Lol. I understand the idea that for a while it's just a lot of whatever group you're really into. I'm like that with whatever group currently has my attention though I'll always return to previous favorites.

I think it was when I was 13(?) I was getting done with a trip going to a couple places in europe and we were at the last airport where we would take our 8(?) hour flight home. I was waiting and I saw my sister reading exo fanfiction (she's like 8 years older than me) and I just said "You like kpop?" probably sounding a bit rude.
but then I got nervous with the plane ride so she gave me an earbud and we listened to exo and watched exo music videos (wolf was my first and shall forever be my favorite yes) to take my mind off of things. After that day exo was the only music I listened to for a year and a half skskskskkksksk and I was listening to it literally 24/7
Drove my mom insane.
anyways
Thank you sis

A friend of mine at high school was utterly obsessed with BTS. She would come every recess and ask me who I liked the most and such, and one day I got tired so I decided "imma check them out so at least I know what she's talking about". This was during RUN era, and that's a f*cking gold era so I got into it. Still, my attention span lasts 1 month but then I discovered all the sub-genres and other groups/bands, and I just fell in love. It was such a huge thing filled with possibilities, like, even if I get bored of one group, there will always be hundreds of other ones, and that's gorgeous. There is so much variety, that's what I'm trying to say, and Korean entertainment shows aren't about the juicy gossip, and I genuinely enjoy that because I can get to know them better and understand them as artists.
Although I got into this genre with BTS, the group that probably made me fall in love with kpop was SEVENTEEN and later on NCT. Now I'm just a mess so there's no definition, but next in the list is definitely iKON.
