Kpop is a whole industry of copying each other. This isn't necessarily a bad thing on the surface... unless the trend is awful and suddenly every group is doing it and it's driving you insane. Here are some kpop trends I'm glad we don't see as much these days.
The Sexy Concept
This was a long lasting concept throughout 2nd and early 3rd gen. Now, one of my main takes in feminism is that women should be able to express their sexuality in whatever way they want, whether that's sexually or conversative. So why am I glad this concept isn't seen as much? The issue was that a few groups that did the sexy concept did it for fame, and didn't actually want to expose themselves in this way. One of the most famous cases is STELLAR. This concept exploited a lot of female (probably male too) idols, just for attention. And now, with so many minors debuting in Kpop, I think this concept is best being few and far between. I would love for an adult group who WANTS to do the concept to revive it, because the types of music that come with the sexy concept are bops, my only concern is for more companies to exploit these idols
Abrupt Endings
Idek if this can count as a trend. But one thing I noticed around 2019-2020 is some songs seemed to end very abruptly. The first song I can name with this would be Kill This Love, and HWAA is another. Some songs do still have endings that feel like they came out of nowhere, but this isn't as common. But I do remember a time thinking Kpop songs would no longer have a final chours and outro
'Experimental Music'
The most recent of the trends. Aespa started this up with Next Level (there were songs before Next Level but none created this insane copy trend). Next Level went viral. Suddenly e v e r y company wanted their own next level. The thing is, almost all the copies did not match the success and surprise of Next Level. The whole point of experimental is it's suppose to be that - a EXPERIMENT. It's not an experiment if every group is following the same formula to create a song. And almost no experimental songs out there are songs I even liked. Despite the majority view, the only two experimental songs I can name that I actually enjoy are O.O and DICE. It seems most groups have given up with this trends though. Except for NMIXX. JYP kinda screwed them over making their entire thing this trend
What are some trends you remember happening or nearly happening that you were hoping wouldn't take off
