SM Holding Auditions for New Boy Group

SM Entertainment has announced that they will begin holding auditions for a boy group in the making.
The auditions will be both over video and in person. Criteria:
"Aspiring singers all over the world, any male born between 2002 and 2008 who is interested in becoming a singer and is not currently affiliated with another agency is eligible to apply."
January 16th-February 15th applicants will send in videos that showcase their singing, dancing, or any other skills that highlight their potential as artists.
February 28-March 15th the agency will announce the applicants who will be moving on to the next round of auditions. They will be carried out in person or online depending on the region.
On March 31st final decisions will be made.

This will be SM's first korean boy group since NCT Dream in 2016. And first boy group as a whole since WayV in 2019.

I find it interesting that SM wants to debut a new boy group when they have a whole ass NCT. They just added new members and are going to debut a new subunit this year.
Are they just getting sick of the concept and want a new group?
If so, I really hope that NCT doesn't end up locked in the dungeons. Especially because of how popular they became in 2020.
Also kinda concerned with 2008 being the age limit. That's 12-13 y/o in 2021. Way too young to be an idol. Please chose wisely SM.

im not that excited tbh, they have NCT and they just debuted aespa. also the age requirement is basically 19-12 years of age if i'm correct. that's really young, and ik that SM likes to debut idols when they are really young (ex. Yeri, Taemin, Krystal, etc..).. still kinda makes me,, idk,, concerned? i don't like seeing idols debut so young because it can be so stressful.

In my opinion you should be in high school to start training and an adult to debut.
But that's never gonna happen

Well SM doesn't actually disband their groups. I actually think they could have a comeback once D.O gets out of the military. There was a teaser for it at the end of I think Kai's solo m/v.
And I don't think SM would put NCT completely in the dungeon. They just added new members and during an interview some of them talked about how a new unit would be debuting in 2021. Also during an SM press conference, I remember them saying that they want to expand NCT all over the world. So I don't think they're just going to drop them.

Idk I don't see them doing anything to down grade NCT in the next year. They had a really great year in 2020, they already have music coming out very soon, they have new members, many of the members will not have to enlist for a while, and a new unit is in the works.
