I've decided to analyse every single ITZY highlight melody to find out which parts of the songs have been spoiled the most in order to figure out whether Cake is the chorus or a different part of the song. I've analysed the bsides as well but title tracks were more important
(Note: I couldn't find the album spoiler for Itz Different nor the two Japanese comebacks)
So then, in total ITZY has spoilt (note, some songs counted multiple times because multiple parts were in their teaser)
2 intros to a song (aka how the song began), 10 verses (either verse 1 or verse 2, at least one part of it), 12 pre-choruses, 21 choruses, 6 post-choruses, 1 refrain, 0 bridges and 0 outros (aka how the song ended). If I wasn't sure what title something counted under I checked it using a lyrics sheet that labelled all the parts.
So you may be thinking, that proves Cake must be the chorus. WRONG because let's analyse each title track
0 intros to title tracks were spoilt, unlikely to be the intro to Cake. I also doubt it is because it doesn't sound like the beginning to a song, it's very abrupt. Although, Snowy which was an intro was also very abrupt
1 verse. This was Not Shy, the ending of Verse 2 was spoilt and went into a pre-chorus
4 pre-choruses. These were Icy, Not Shy, Mafia In The Morning (which then went into a chorus) and Loco. So I feel quite proud of my Cheshire prediction that the lalala part could've been the pre-chorus because they're usually what JYP spoils in the highlight melody
3 choruses. These were Wannabe, Mafia In The Morning and Sneakers (although Mafia as previously mentioned also spoilt the pre-chorus mostly)
And finally 1 refrain, this is Cheshire (lalala part).
So. It's not impossible that the Cake part is the chorus. However, JYP doesn't usually spoil the chorus for the title tracks.
I don't think this part is going to be a verse, nor a pre-chorus or a post-chorus. My 2 main predictions are:
Chorus into post-chorus (Cake cake cake is the chorus while the lalala part WHICH IS SUNG BY YUNA! is the post-chorus)
Refrain. I think it would count as a refrain, if not bridge. But somewhere later in the song like Cheshire was
I also think it could act as an intro but not this specific part. Sort of like Unforgiven
