At Uni I want to try and learn BSL if it’s an option because I think it’s an important skill. But I somehow ended up on deaf American tiktok and like it feels obvious now but they were talking about how ASL isn’t just visual English but has its own grammar rules and meanings etc and I’m like oh dear this is gonna be harder than I thought I don’t even know if my (hopefully) Uni offers it as a course you can take up though. That’s something for future me to find outWho thought learning Japanese would be so difficult? I memorized Hiragana like it was nothing and I am actually good at it but when we completed Katakana and moved to Kanji in class this week it shattered everything lmao
But I won't give up of course
If it's something that interests you, I suggest you learn it, or else in the future, you might regret not learning it. Even though it's difficult if you like it a lot, there is a high possibility that you will nail it. But even if isn't being tutored at your university, maybe you can find somewhere else that teaches bsl? I'm not quite sure about it though. At Uni I want to try and learn BSL if it’s an option because I think it’s an important skill. Language learning is so fun but so hard at the same time :’) I haven’t been able to/been willing to pursue learning BSL or Korean or anything because I’ve been so focused on french for who knows how long. I’m gonna miss speaking French though once I leave college in.. 3 weeks now (omg). It’s like my little special skill because most English people are dumb and can’t speak any languages, even if my French is quite poor compared to my classmates. If it's something that interests you, I suggest you learn it, or else in the future, you might regret not learning it. Speaking of me, why I wanted to learn Japanese because it has always interested me ever since I watched Oshin which is the first Jdrama series I watched when I was a kid, and also because of anime of course. I won't be getting my AL results until August so I thought this is the perfect time to attend a Japanese institution to learn. Even after I register at a university I won't stop learning it even though I'm not hoping to learn it as a subject at a uni.
I agree, everything is so fun and easy until you reach the grammar part. You don't plan on continuing to learn French? I'm just saying, but based on your surrounding what you said about most not being able to speak French, it makes uniqueness in you. I can relate to you because I learned German at school, but I had to study economics instead of German for my ALs, but I met a tutor for German so I'm continuing to learn it as well. In here there is like a 10% of people who actually speak German fluently so it just sometimes makes me feel special although I'm kind of struggling with it, especially with the grammar part, but I believe I'm doing just fine I guess.Language learning is so fun but so hard at the same time :’) I haven’t been able to/been willing to pursue learning BSL or Korean or anything because I’ve been so focused on french for who knows how long. That’s why I want to see if I can peruse BSL in Uni because it’ll be a whole new language to attempt but I won’t have to worry about it interfering with French. I also want to learn how to read Korean as I hear it’s relatively easy due to phonetic consistency, but not actually learn the language. I just think it would be cool to learn to sing Kpop songs quicker lol.
I wish you luck with your AL results and future Japanese learning endeavours
I think my issue with french right now is I just associate it with not feeling good enough because I consistently get low grades. I do actually love learning the language and find it interesting. I might pick it up again later once the stress of A-levels is gone and I can learn it for fun instead. I mean, I intend to study a degree in linguistics and even though I’m specifically going to study the English language branch, since my degree is about language the department highly encourage language learningI agree, everything is so fun and easy until you reach the grammar part. Thank you, and good luck with your upcoming exams and uni studies too!
