okay tell me why my (old) crush who's also one my friends randomly started texting me again.. so basically here's the story

BACKGROUND INFO: I've known him for 2 years now and i've liked him the entire 2 years but never fessed up, in December of 2024 he got a gf who we will call butterfly, I still liked him during the relationship but respected boundaries and stayed as his "girl bsf" or wtv. I became genuine friends with his gf. in June of 2025 they broke up.

on June 4th I texted him "wait is it true that u and butterfly broke up?" (I knew they 100% broke up but I pretended not to), he texted back 2 days late on June 6th and said "ye why" I didn't respond cuz I didn't see it yet and then a few hours later he texted again "I still don't know why but its not your concern." I read it and was shocked asf and lowk kinda hurt so I just never responded, a few days ago on July 17th he texted me but it was a response to an old msg, the msg was from March of 2025 and we were in the middle of a Convo and I said "I was at a volleyball tournament and saw butterfly there" now he obviously already responded to that (since it was in March and we were constantly texting back then) and we even changed the subject but I never responded and the msg was from March so I was confused on why he messaged me again. he responded with a gif of a house blowing up and i decided to respond so I said "lmao" and then I saw that he deleted the past messages of him saying "ye why" && "I still don't know why but its not your concern." (I even took a screenshot) and then we just started casually talking again. but he kept complaining abt his ex saying he hated her, shes a cheater, called her an it, yap yap yap so then this brought up some concerns cause a.) the DAY after he broke up with butterfly he started liking her friend who then later rejected him and b.) literally yesterday I got info that he and my other friend orange got into a lil argument because according to crush orange spends more time with his gf tea (my BEST friend btw and orange barely texts/calls her and when he does he's dry) so yeah they ended up fighting so now I feel as if I'm his rebound because I feel as if during our casual convo he was giving hints that he liked me so now I'm #scared but finally my summer has some drama :p

i hate him oml but i lowk still have a crush on him 💔 am I into toxic BOYS 🥀

LITERALLY LIKE BRUV but all of the sudden when we in an actual convo he can respond with like fucking lightning speed 😐
