The gym smells like floor wax and cheap cologne. SARAH (13) is in the center of the floor, swaying to a mid-tempo pop track. She’s wearing a sparkly dress and a pair of silver block heels that she’s clearly still getting used to—she’s careful with her steps, but her smile is wide.
LEO (13) untucks his chin from his stiff dress shirt and weaves through the crowd. He stops a few feet away, watching her try to keep her balance while maintaining the rhythm.

(Shouting over the bass)
Those look like they hurt.
SARAH
(Teetering slightly as she turns)
They’re "mature," Leo. My mom let me borrow them.
She wobbles a bit on a beat drop, and Leo quickly steps in, offering an arm for her to steady herself. She grabs his forearm, laughing as she finds her footing again.
LEO
Maybe "mature" means walking in straight lines only.
SARAH
(Pulling him into the sway)
Just don't let me fall and we're fine.
Leo stays close, matching her slower, careful movements as they dance near the edge of the louder crowd.
