TW Abuse
I've been noticing that a lot of stans have lately been using the word 'mistreated' (or some variation) when they should be saying 'mismanaged'.
The definition of mismanage is: To manage incompetently or dishonestly
The definition of mistreat is: To treat badly or abusively
Most of the time when stans use the word 'mistreat' they do mean it in the context of 'mismanage'. For example:
YG is mistreating Blackpink.
Jin is the most mistreated member of BTS.
In these situations the mentioned parties are not being mistreated, they are being mismanaged.
Let's take the Blackpink example to further elaborate:
Before it was announced that Blackpink would be releasing The Album, some stans were saying that YG was mistreating them.
When?
I saw no information of YG physically or psychologically abusing or neglecting Blackpink.
Blackpink was being mismanaged. Sure mismanagement is still not a great thing to experience, but it was not mistreatment.
*But you never know, they could have been. It's impossible to know every part of the girls' lives*
When you apply a word that doesn't fit a scenario, it down plays the seriousness of an actual situation of mistreatment.
For example, would you consider Blackpink not being given a comeback or solos the same as a group like The East Light?
If you didn't know, The East Light was a kband made up of children. They debuted in 2016, with the oldest being 16 and the youngest being 13.
Behind the scenes these children were being severely physically and psychologically abused by their managers, coaches, and other higher ups.
Here is a video that details the situation more:
Their story begins at 9:49
This is mistreatment. By clumping in mismanaged groups, this incident becomes less important and fades into the background. That's why I'm sure most of you have not heard their sad and horrifying story.
So please, when referring to an artist/groups unfair treatment please assess whether they are actually being abused/neglected or just mismanaged.
*No hate to any of the mentioned groups or idols. I used them for comparison due to how I often I see fans talk about their 'mistreatment'.*
Also, last time I posted a thread like this "Why We Shouldn't Use The Word 'Hate'" a lot of people chose to use it as a way to be comedic and self deprecating.
So please please be respectful or I will have to lock this thread.
