Love Letters (MarkHyuck)
Part 1
It was a Monday morning and Mark was walking towards his locker to collect his materials and put his backpack away. He put in the combination and opened the locker up. As he opened his locker, a piece of paper fell onto the ground. He thought it was just some dumb homework that was due 3 months ago but when he picked it up, he was shocked. It was a love letter! Except it was typed out instead of handwritten so he couldn't be able to figure out who sent it. The letter read:
"Dear Mark,
Hi. I'm too much of a chicken to tell you this in person...but I have a crush on you. Oh gosh this sounds so cringy. But yeah. I love you, you handsome crackhead. I think it's best to keep this anonymous for now....it's better that way. I'll probably be sending more of these. I hope you like them. And me. <3
From, ???

Mark blinked in shock and looked around, wondering who it could be. He could feel his cheeks blushing, as no one had ever liked him like that. He smiled too himself and put the letter in his pocket and put his backpack away and then he grabbed his supplies.
He felt an arm slide around his shoulders and Mark smiled, knowing it was his best friend, Donghyuck. "Hey hyung." The too familiar voice said. "Don't touch me!" Mark complained jokingly and shrugged Donghyuck's arm off of his shoulders. "Damn okay." His best friend pretended to be upset and Mark playfully shoved him. "Guess what happened?" Mark asked, looking his friend in the eyes. "I'm listening."
Mark pulled the letter out of his pocket and handed it to Donghyuck. "Someone finally likes me!" An expression passed over Donghyuck's face that Mark couldn't quite read but he shrugged it off, not thinking much about it. His friend read the letter and handed it back to him, smiling widely. "OoOoOOOh~ Someone likes you hyung~!" He teased. Mark laughed and blushed, giving Donghyuck a shove. "Shut up, you're just jealous!" Mark joked. Donghyuck looked at him and raised an eyebrow. "Believe me, hyung, I am not jealous." Mark shrugged. "If you say so."
The two began to walk to class together, side by side. They walked without saying anything until Donghyuck finally broke the silence. "Sooo.... what did you think of your... secret admirer's letter?" The question took Mark by surprise since he was wrapped in his own thoughts. "Uh... I think it was a very cute letter and I'm really flattered, I'm still kinda letting it sink in though, y'know? I didn't think anyone would like an ugly dumbass like me," Mark replied, scratching the back of his neck. He looked to Donghyuck, and he had the same unreadable expression on his face. "Mark, you aren't ugly nor dumb, don't call yourself those words. But I'll see you later, hyung," he said and gave a brief smile before walking off to his class.

Part 2

Donghyuck went home that day, overthinking what happened at school. He wondered if he made it too obvious to Mark. He suddenly felt like this whole thing was a bad idea. Why would Mark even like someone like me? he thought to himself as he flopped on his bed, sighing. Should I write another letter? Donghyuck wondered, but the thought made him feel seasick so he silently decided he would do it later. He lied on his bed for a while, trying to calm himself down until he heard his phone go off from a text message. He picked up his phone to see that one of his best friends, Renjun, had texted him.

Renjun: So how did it go?

Donghyuck knew what Renjun was talking about but he wasn't sure if he wanted to answer. Well, it's not like the whole love notes situation didn't go well, he was just overthinking.

Donghyuck: Good, I think...

Renjun: Wdym?

Donghyuck: I think I made it too obvious to Mark...

Renjun: You think? You're always kissing Mark on the cheek and you're always hugging onto him. 🤡

Donghyuck: Hey! That doesn't count because I said "no homo" after that.

Renjun: I- 🤡

"This btch." Donghyuck sighed and turned off his phone, wondering how many more days it will take before he kills Renjun. He got up from his bed and went over to his desk and sat down, realizing that he should just write the second "love letter" and just get it over with. He started typing out the letter on his computer, and instantly all of his bad thoughts went away when he thought about Mark. He knew it was silly to feel this way about his best friend, but he really couldn't hold back his feelings. He finished typing the note out and he printed it before putting it away in his backpack. He flopped onto his bed again, letting his emotions get the best of him as he cried into his pillow, knowing 100% sure that Mark doesn't like him back. Donghyuck didn't even know if he liked boys. He hoped that these feelings would go away so he and Mark could continue a normal best friend life, but, honestly, he knew deep down that feelings can't just go away in a snap.

I think this story is going kinda slow but I'll try to speed it up a bit uwu

Part 3

Donghyuck made sure to get to school early so he could slip the note in Mark's locker without anyone seeing. He arrived at Mark's locker and looked around, double checking to see if anyone was watching him. He quickly shoved the note in and swiftly walked to his locker, just in time when Mark walked around the corner and headed to his locker. Donghyuck quickly looked away and rummaged through his locker, casting quick side glances at Mark to see if he had reacted to the note yet. "Donghyuck!" Mark exclaimed excitedly, rushing over to his friend to show him the note. Donghyuck couldn't help but smile like an idiot, Mark looked so happy and that made Donghyuck's heart flutter with joy. He pretended to be shocked and curious by the note and he cheered along with Mark. "I wonder who it is, hyung," Donghyuck said, faking a curious tone. Mark nodded quickly, grinning. "Me too! I really hope they reveal themselves soon! I'm sure they are a very sweet person and I really wanna meet them, or talk to them," Mark said, looking at Donghyuck with the biggest smile. Donghyuck faked a smile, wondering if Mark would be saying these things if he knew who his secret admirer was. "Yeah, I really wanna know who it is too, hyung." Mark gave Donghyuck a pat on the back and waved. "Well I'll see you later, okay?" he smiled and walked off. "Bye," Donghyuck responded, his voice sounding distant.
"Hey idiot." Donghyuck turned around and rolled his eyes at the sight of Renjun. "Thanks for leaving me on read last night," Renjun said sarcastically. "Well you were no help," Donghyuck replied, playfully shouldering his friend away. "What? I was just being honest, Donghyuck," he said with a shrug. "I know...but still." Donghyuck looked at him before continuing. "Do you think I should ever tell Mark?" Renjun looked at his friend, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I mean, if you really want to. I think you should, though. After all, we are seniors and the school year is almost over with, so if he ends up hating you or whatever, there will only be a little bit of time that you have to deal with that. There is a lot to risk but it's worth a shot," Renjun answered, smiling at Donghyuck and wrapped his arm around him. Donghyuck smiled at Renjun, content with the answer. "Yeah, you're right. I'll think about it. Also, you should tell Jaemin how you feel about him as well," Donghyuck responded, winking at Renjun. His friend just sighed and smiled, stifling a laugh. "We all know that he is in love with Jeno, I have no chance. But it's ok, it's just a tiny crush," Renjun smirked and continued his sentence, "I'm not in love with Jaemin like you are in love with Mark." Renjun laughed evilly and walked off before Donghyuck had the chance to beat the sh*t out of him. Donghyuck shook his head at his friend who was happily walking away. "I'm gonna kill him."

Crap is gonna escalate in Part 4 I promise👀

Part 4

A loud beeping noise woke the sleeping Mark up. He groaned and smacked his alarm clock for it to shut up and yawned, emerging from his bed. He picked up his phone and squinted at the bright light, checking the time: 5:00 am. Mark knew Donghyuck wasn't awake right now but he still texted him, knowing that he would see it eventually.

Mark: Can u meet me at my locker before the bell rings, I need help picking out a book at the library for a project.

Mark put his phone down and began to do his morning routine; eating breakfast, showering, putting on clothes, brushing his teeth, and finally fixing his hair. He picked up his phone and put it in his pocket and grabbed his backpack, double checking he got all of his belongings and headed out the door to drive to school.

Donghyuck POV

Donghyuck woke up to his alarm clock and slapped the snooze button, wondering if he should just skip school today. He buried himself in his blankets but then remembered Mark wouldn't get his love letter today, leading him to the conclusion that his secret admirer was Donghyuck. He sighed and rolled out of bed and went over to his nightstand to check his phone, only to discover that it was dead. He forgot to plug it in. "Shit," he muttered before plugging it in and beginning on his morning routine.

Mark POV

Mark pulled into the student parking lot for his school, and he double checked his phone, wondering why Donghyuck hadn't texted him back. Surely he was awake? What if Donghyuck didn't wanna want to go to the library with him? Mark frowned to himself, and then shook himself out of his thoughts, wondering why he cared so much. He was just a friend, after all. The boy got out of his car, pocketing his phone and then slung his backpack over his shoulder and walked into the building. He made his way to his locker and put his backpack away. Mark then began to dig through his messy locker, thinking of something to do and occupy his mind while he waited for Donghyuck to arrive at school. He sighed and decided he would go to the bathroom to fill time and so he wouldn't have to go later.

Donghyuck POV

Donghyuck walked into the school, looking around for Mark, and then darting down the halls like a robber and ran up to Mark's locker. He started to push the letter in his locker when he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Donghyuck....?"
Donghyuck felt his blood run cold and his heart stop beating and he slowly turned around, bracing for what would happen next. He could feel tears threatening to roll down his cheeks when he saw Mark looking at him, a shocked look on his face.
"I....I'm sorry Mark hyung," the teen stammered, dropping the love letter and running out of there as fast as he could, holding back sobs as he pushed past his peers to run out of that stupid school.

Part 5

Donghyuck ran to his car and got in, slamming the door. He broke down in tears the moment he shut the door. Donghyuck felt childish for crying this much, but he was so scared Mark was gonna hate him. Why hadn't I been more careful? Donghyuck thought. Mark wouldn't have seen him putting the love letter in his locker if he had checked behind him. Why was Mark at school so early? Donghyuck was about to check his phone until he realized that he had left it at home due to it being dead. He sighed and leaned against his seat, tears still rolling down his cheeks. Donghyuck didn't know what was gonna happen next. He obviously didn't wanna go back into school and face the embarrassment. He settled on to just skip school and drive home. The heartbroken boy started his car and began on his drive home, blasting music on the radio to consume his thoughts with better things.

Mark POV

"Donghyuck! Wait!" Mark called after his friend who had ran off. It all registered now: Donghyuck liked him. He felt his cheeks blush from the thought but he pushed it away, walking over to pick up the love letter he dropped. He read it silently, smiling to himself at Donghyuck's cheesy jokes and his excessive amount of heart emojis. He was still smiling like an idiot when he pocketed the letter. Mark decided he would skip today, to have more time to think and to contact Donghyuck to tell him that everything is okay. He went out to his car and began to drive home. Mark's mind began to wander and he began to think. What's happening to me, Mark thought, realizing he might like Donghyuck back. He wondered if he liked Donghyuck back all this time but just pushed the thought away because he thought it was wrong? Millions of questions like this raced through Mark's mind up until he got back to his home. He walked into his bedroom and flopped down on his bed, staring straight up at the ceiling. His heart was racing and he didn't know why. The confused teen took out his phone to text Donghyuck.

Mark: Hey Donghyuck? I know you probably don't wanna talk but I swear I'm not mad...Everything will be okay, I promise

Donghyuck POV

Donghyuck ran into his bedroom and unlocked his phone (which was now finally charged), and realized that Mark had texted him that he was getting to school early. He silently cursed at himself for not charging his phone. He slammed his phone on his bed and covered his face, quietly sobbing. His phone buzzed with a new notification. He looked at it to see a text from Mark. He knew he shouldn't answer the text and just push away his feelings, but he couldn't help himself. He didn't want to lose Mark.

Donghyuck: Hi Mark... I just wanted to say I'm sorry...... you are probably really disgusted right now, but I totally get it

Mark: I'm not disgusted, I promise

Mark: Can we talk tomorrow? Like in person? And not at school

Donghyuck: Ok fine...

Mark: Just meet me at the Dream Cafe at 1 pm tomorrow ok? If that fits your schedule, I mean....

Donghyuck: Yeah, I'll be there

Mark: Ok cya

Donghyuck: yep,,,

Part 6 (Final)

Donghyuck was really nervous, it was almost 12:30 pm and he was to meet Mark at the Cafe at 1 o' clock. He was scared Mark was faking not being mad and really just wanted to tell him off. He was scared that things would get awkward between them. Donghyuck was scared of losing Mark. What have I done? he thought and put on a nice jacket and walked out the door. He got in his car and began to drive off, blasting NCT 127's "Punch" on the radio. (please stream it uwu) Donghyuck soon arrived at the Dream Cafe and walked in, taking a deep breath and he looked around for Mark. He scanned the seating area of the Cafe and saw Mark slightly smiling at him. He gave a brief smile back at Mark before fixing his hair and adjusting his jacket, making his way to the table Mark was seated. "Hey, hyung," Donghyuck said shyly, forcing his voice to be steady and sat down. Mark smiled at him. "Hi Donghyuck, are you okay..?" he asked with genuine concern on his face. "Yes, I'm alright, Mark, thank you for still wanting to talk to me. I'm so sorry about this whole...-" Donghyuck was cut off as the waitress approached them. "Are you guys ready to order?" the girl asked with a polite smile and the two boys ended up ordering a slice of cake each. "I'll pay," Mark said, more of a statement than an offering. "No it's okay-" Mark gave him a stern yet soft, kind look. "No, Donghyuck, it's fine, I got it. After all, I'm the one who suggested to go here." The other boy didn't argue, just gave a slight nod and a smile. "Thanks, hyung." The older nodded and looked at Donghyuck, a thoughtful expression on his face. "I won't talk about what happened if you don't wanna talk about, please don't worry I swear I'm not mad," Mark said softly, looking the younger in the eyes with kindness. "T-thank you," was all Donghyuck could manage, fighting back tears. "Please don't cry, Donghyuck," Mark pleaded, grabbing Donghyuck's hands and squeezing them gently. "I.." Donghyuck shoved his hands away from Mark and looked away. "With all due respect, Mark, but please don't hold my hands...you probably know why.." Mark nodded apologetically. "I'm sorry I just- I just wanted to tell you something..," Mark said, looking down at his feet, letting his hair fall over his eyes. "What is it, hyung? If you don't wanna be friends, just say so! You don't need to take me to a cute cafe and buy me food and hold my hands just to let me down. I'm sorry Mark and I know this sounds weird but all of this makes my heart hurt and I know it's not your fault, I'm just..." Donghyuck was once again cut off by the waitress, but she arrived with their cakes this time. They thanked her and began to eat in silence. But after eating just two bites, Donghyuck began to stand up. "I'm sorry, I'm not hungry right now, Mark. Big breakfast, I guess. We'll talk later?" the heartbroken boy said but Mark grabbed his arm as he was about to walk off. "I need to tell you something though.." Mark protested, his eyes wide and sad. Donghyuck once again fell for those eyes and gave in, sitting back down. "What?" Donghyuck asked, looking at the older. Mark cleared his throat and looked down shyly. "I'm sorry for holding this off so long, but, Donghyuck, I think I might l-like you back...," he stuttered, slowly looking back up at the other. Donghyuck's cheeks flushed. "I... are you just saying this because I was gonna leave? I'm sorry, Mark I didn't mean to force you into anything. You don't have to..." But Donghyuck stopped when Mark leaned over the table and proceeded to kiss his lips ever so gently and Donghyuck's whole world seemed to stop and he didn't care that they were sitting in the middle of a cafe and he didn't care about anything but Mark and this moment. His heart was beating so fast but he didn't care. Mark quickly pulled away and blushed, looking down. "I-I'm sorry.." Donghyuck just smiled and laughed. "Why would you apologize? I've been waiting for this moment for...Ok I sound like a stalker." Mark looked up and laughed a genuine, happy laugh and smiled so bright. "I love you~"
"I love you too, Mark."
