Soon, all the girls are under the control of the puppeteer except liz, whom the leader trusted and hid from the puppeteer by sacrificing herself. liz has to take the train back to find the magician and persuade the magician to come with them by the last autumn (the train only comes in autumn and winter but the last autumn is where the train will make its final route to Heron Island (the place where the rest of the girls are trapped) but the magician refuses and by the last autumn, the train leaves without liz and she is the last of the girls to freeze into wood (a marionette). But Heron Island's animals, the herons, suddenly gather to use the last bit of Heron Island's magic- but is it for the puppeteer or for the girls?
