Hello! It's me, Denki. Recently I've gone back to high school full-time, and I've been struggling a bit. I've always been "the smart kid". Never needed to study, school was a breeze. It was just... easy.

Now that I've come into high school, the workload has increased and it's a bit overwhelming. Guess who never needed to study? Well, now I don't know how to study.

My previous process was then when I was overwhelmed, I would put whatever was overwhelming me into a box and pretended that it didn't exist. :D As you can imagine, that didn't work too well, and it caused some problems. Because of my ADHD, I also suck at organizing. I just don't know how.

I really need some help. Please, give me advice on study tips, organization, and getting help in class. Tell me what has worked for you. Thank you. I won't be replying for a while because I need to work on late assignments, as I have needed to for a long time now. Thanks so much.<3

As a high school student also I recommend:
  1. Get enough sleep
  2. If you can shower in the morning great
  3. Buy binders, folders, sticky notes, flash cards, markers, pens, pencils and highlighter, notebooks
  4. Pick a color for each class and label them
  5. Always have flash cards on your notebooks and binders
  6. Turn all your devices off
  7. Find a quiet place to work at.

Since most of your school work is online, have two different things open. The first for entertainment to motivate you, the second for work. Keep the first hidden and gradually close tabs as you finish assignments. You'll eventually run out of work and be rewarded with something to relieve stress. Also, take breaks whenever you start to get overwhelmed and work on something else until you've calmed down. It will seem so much easier if you go in with a clear mind, and I learned that through teaching myself Japanese and Korean.

Also, what you mean "full-time"?? When were you not in school full-time-?

I like to write down each piece of homework on a sticky note and put it on the wall above my desk.
That way I am reminded to do certain things, and it feels better when I finish cause I can throw the sticky note out.
Besides that, studying is kinda different for everyone.
If you have trouble concentrating try studying in silence or with instrumental music.
I would recommend maybe buying a planner or getting one on your phone.
Also, don't be afraid to reach out to a teacher if you find something confusing.
Try and schedule your studying in increments so you aren't doing too much at a time.
Other than that, you just need motivation.

You will definitely need a planner. It doesn’t seem like a huge difference, but it helps a lot. I used to forget what I needed to do by the end of the day, or not bring something home because I was too lazy to. It’ll help you know how much time you have left to complete smtg and then the obvious, plan. You can also prioritize stuff in it and set goals, like work on a specific subject harder to raise that grade.

A studying tip is what @Angelsleugi_♡ said. What I do that is similar is study for 10-30 minutes every night on something that I prioritized with no distractions except LOFI beats in the background. After that, just quiz yourself randomly. If you don’t remember, look back and ask yourself that question over and over randomly till you memorize it.

However, if you’re cramming last minute which I usually do, write it repeatedly. Usually I write about 2 pages of it. You don’t need to do that specifically unless you don’t remember it. After writing what you think is enough, quiz yourself to see if you remember. Then circle the ones you don’t, and go over those ones more.

These tips are mostly just for studying for tests, but things like writing and grammar, use grammarly. Also if you any type of textbook, use Slader. But what I do is work through the problems myself and use slader to check over it. It gets me on the right track so I don’t have to wait till my paper is graded to see if I did anything wrong.

I don’t have much otherwise than that, besides take advantage when you’re feeling motivated and grind

Try out different studying methods till you find one that works for you, everyone’s studying method is different. It all just depends on you, personally I like to do practice questions and old exam papers to test my knowledge, starting with open book so that i get to learn the content and then i gradually make it more difficult by taking away my book and therefore having to do it by memory. But that’s just one way in a multitude of different ones, you just have to keep trying till you see improvements from one method then stick with that.

Thanks, guys. Fortunately I finished most of my late assignments, all I have left is math and an essay to write (thankfully writing essays come easier to me). I really appreciate it, and I will be sure to implement these in my study plan

That's confusing but okay-
Either way, you should still have some kind of motivation :)
