So uhhh the message of the song is pretty clear, so I never really thought much of it otherwise before, but the other day when listening to music, Neon's character song from Kamen Rider Geats started playing like 2-3 songs after Happy Death Day and oh boy did I have a revelation. It is the perfect Neon-coded song to me now. So that's also why I put this post into the drama category!
This is Neon:
Obviously, Kamen Rider Geats spoilers, but I'll explain it, so you also see it if you haven't watched it/don't plan on watching it.
First of all, let's completely forget about the actual song's meaning, but keep the lyrics in mind (I'll get into more detail after the introduction).
Now, who is Neon? A character of the show Kamen Rider Geats and basically, she isn't a normal human, in a way of, she technically should not exist, her existence in itself is "fake". Her parents originally had another daughter, Akari, but she died in a kidnapping and to replace her, her father wished for a new daughter, but she was completely different, he only saw her as a tool for his rich family to get even richer. So Neon isn't the original daughter, but she didn't know about this until recently and she even has vivid memories of the kidnapping, that happened on her birthday (ironically...died on the birthday). Ever since then, her birthdays make her sad since this was also the start of her mother becoming very obsessive and controlling due to developing an intense fear of separation. This became so unbearable for Neon that she always tries to run away from home.
She only finds out later that she isn't technically real, due to Beroba (one of the main antagonists) exposing her story to everyone, to make her unable to fight due to having to process this. Obviously, she is very shaken by this. She didn't even get to know the news first, everyone else did before her.
And so the hypocritical supporters/watchers are screaming at her and saying she shouldn't deserve to win the game, while she didn't even know what was up at first. Funny coming from people of the future, where their whole lives are predetermined- but one of the reasons why Geats is actually such a good critique on internet and also stan culture (especially the supporters)!!
Now to the song! I'll add some lyrics that make me think exactly about how fitting this is for Neon.
> In a way, Neon is the fake and this could also be seen as the watchers shouting at her for being a fake. In another way, this can also be about the watchers that arranged a whole birthday party for her, but decided to turn on her the second she wasn't the perfect Neon they thought to knew anymore.
The running, obviously, she's always running away from home to find a better life.
> Now this is just perfect. Memories of a sad birthday as a child (even 8 years). Just like hers. (And obviously, again, the running away part.)

Birthday it's my birthday
The sound of music echoing in a silent space
Worst day, It’s my worst day
Happy death day
Happy, happy worst day
Killin' me, killin' me
Killin' me, killin' me
The cold reality
Killin' me, killin' me
Killin' me, killin' me, killin' me
> All the birthday, worst day and death day talk. The killin' me part, both literally and also "the cold reality", when it all came crashing down on her once she learned of the reason for her existence. And of course all the hate she got, first not even knowing why, since she wasn't even the first one to find out. The whole world found out before her. There really was so much to take in.
So yeah!! Kept it rather short, both to not write too much and because to me it is just really self-explanatory. It's kinda cool that if you take out some lyrics and match the existing ones to Neon, it fits her story SO well. Maybe even a bit as a switch of Neon's and Beroba's perspectives, Beroba's parts being the one with laughing and the constant "Happy Death Day", since she is the one wishing despair on everyone and so making fun of Neon and laughing at her after exposing this secret.
I kind of want to do more of those, since there are more songs I can really fit into Toku characters. Not sure if people read those since I don't think there are any Toku fans here, but I'll try my best to also explain the backstory behind it. :]

Birthday it's your birthday
The sound of the song silenced by the fireworks
Worst day, it’s a worst day
> Neon hating her birthday, it really is her worst day in both the way of the memories of the kidnapping and the start of her life becoming more and more controlled. The sound of the song silenced by the fireworks
Worst day, it’s a worst day
I'm so sick of the fakes
Run run for your life
Run run for your life
> In a way, Neon is the fake and this could also be seen as the watchers shouting at her for being a fake. I remember the day when I was eight
There was no laughter on the table
In front of the dried-up cake
Smiling with pale lips
Now, hold your breath
One two three four
I'm gonna run away, farther, farther, farther away
There was no laughter on the table
In front of the dried-up cake
Smiling with pale lips
Now, hold your breath
One two three four
I'm gonna run away, farther, farther, farther away
