okay so when I try doing high notes i accidently start singing from my throat (or doing a “head voice”). is that normal or are you supposed to be able to do high notes from your chest? if you’re supposed to be able to do high notes from your chest…how?

high notes are usually done using your head voice, don't worry! the only thing you need to worry about is being stable and having enough air to support your sound so it doesn't either a) get quieter and sound wimpy or b) become off-key/too pitchy and ends up sounding bad. as a soprano I i know the struggle of trying to do high notes trust me qwq
@yunaisms is right. That's totally normal.
I, personally, am a contralto, so high notes are my enemy. For those who don't know, contraltos are the lowest female voice, and their range is typically between F3 and F5. Comfortably, I can sing between D3 and C#5.
thank you guys! do you know how to shift between a head voice and a chest voice? if you can’t tell i’m struggling
That's okay. The shift usually comes naturally, as your voice naturally raises to hit the higher notes (well, at least it does for me). An easy visual to use is picture a marble rising and falling in a tube. There's a red line marked on the tube. The tube represents your range, and the red line separates your head and chest voice. As you sing, try visualizing that.

Be careful not to lift your head too much, though, as that actually makes it harder to sing, and you won’t be able to get enough air.
