BTS Will Likely Be Enlisting Without Any Special Treatment

Recently, the government announced that they will be reviewing the standards that people may be exempt from the mandatory military service. South Korean laws state that winners of international sports and art competitions may be exempt from the military service due to their role in spreading Korean culture internationally.

With groups like BTS that are spreading Korean culture through their music, people believe that they should also be exempted from the military service. But the government has stated that they would be reconsidering the law.
However, despite the group being active in both the Korean and global music market are expected to enlist without any special treatment.

Many Korean netizens have stated their disappointment with this decision, saying that right now, BTS contributes the most to spreading Korean culture, also just because they haven’t won an international competition doesn’t mean they don’t deserve of being exempt.

Actually they shouldn’t be exempt. That’s not fair to other groups who are also popular overseas like NCT, Stray Kids, Monsta X etc. I’m glad the government isn’t giving any special treatment to BTS, because if they did, that would look very poorly on their end.

I agree with this, I mean like it is kinda underlying saying that they are the best group if they get special treatment (I'm not hating I do love BTS a lot but it seems a bit much).

Agreed. It just wouldn’t be fair and it’s pretty immature of the people complaining that they should because I can almost guarantee if it was another group, say EXO or Monsta X for example, the same people saying BTS should be exempt would be saying “EXO/Monsta X shouldn’t be exempt/get special treatment.”
