B.A.P’s Daehyun, now a solo artist, has officially announced the name of his solo fandom!
On September 6, he held a special V Live broadcast to ask for his fans’ input on his official fandom name. After narrowing down the candidates, the final two choices came down to “Daily” and “IY,” and Daehyun ultimately chose “IY.”
Daehyun explained, “‘IY’ means ‘you, who are so precious and special that you are irreplaceable.’ ‘You’ can stand for either Daehyun or the fans.”
He went on to point out that “IY” was a homophone for the word “ai,” which means love in Japanese and Chinese, as well as a homophone for the Korean word for “child.” He further added that the name could signify that his fans are also growing up from “BABY” (B.A.P’s official fandom name) to “IY” (children), as grows as an artist.
However, Daehyun clarified that he will still be using the fandom name “BABY”. “The word ‘BABY’ is forever. I think of ‘IY’ as a name that arose from within BABY, and BABY will always be a part of me. That’s what I think. I’m always going to use ‘BABY’ as well as ‘IY.'”
After parting ways with TS Entertainment in February of this year, Daehyun went on to release his first solo mini album in April and has since signed with a new agency.
