Hi there! I'm an artist who leans towards cartoony/anime-inspired things, and I figured that whether you're a newbie or have made a career out of art, you could come and both share tips to improve or ask questions, or heck, even post your art in this thread for some constructive criticism <3. I have no idea if it's been done before but I thought this would be a nice thread to add to the forums.

I'll start with some tips that are helpful for me:
- when sketching people, draw the face, and then draw a rough hairline a bit above the eyebrows
- when going through an art style crisis, draw everything you see and watch your style develop! your style will never be the same as last year, last month, or heck, even last week, it just means you're improving!
- (for traditional artists) draw your initial sketches in light, cheap pencils, they'll be easier to erase later if you don't like something
- hands should be one of the last things you draw, in case you aren't the best at drawing them, so you don't get frustrated over it
- characters should never be staring directly at the viewer, it seems fake (unless you're going for an unsettling vibe, then go for it!)
- asymmetry makes a character seem more real! so what if their shoulders aren't the same height/length? people aren't made assymetrical, so don't stress too much about that
- use eyebrows to display a character's emotions more easily, along with pupils and the eyes in general. For example: an angry character might have super furrowed eyebrows and even tears of rage depending on how upset they are! it's all about how you show it :)
- use multiple references for everything!! it helps you go from just copying a design likely coined by a company/person to making it your own, and thus becomes more tailored to your character <3
