I have seen people say we are in 5th gen and I was like WOwo 4th gen went by fast.. But then I look at when all the 4th gen groups debuted. They all debuted in like 2018, 2019, maybe early 2020? (idk i could be wrong).

What gen do you think we are in? Do you think we are still in 4th gen? Or are we in 5th gen?

How would you separate kpop generations?

i think a lot of people have their own opinions on what generation we're in, and i think it'll probably seem a lot clearer once more time has passed and we can see the bigger picture.

personally i tend to think we are in the 4th gen. i have some theories about the generation splits, one of them is that bgs and ggs are on a slightly different generation line (keep in mind, this is just my own theory that i'm not 100% sure on). for me, we're either in the latest stage of the 3rd gen or beginning to midpoint of 4th gen, so in a couple years it'll be 5th gen... but that could certainly change.

roughly by year:

1st gen : 90s - 2001 or 2002
2nd gen : early 2000s to 2012ish
3rd gen : 2012ish to about the end of the 2010s ish
4th gen : maybe starting around 2019ish

this is the timeline i have thats roughly based on bgs, the ggs one is adjusted to maybe 2 years later...like i said its kind of a work in progress. and tbh i only recently started thinking we're in gen 4

sorry if this was long, its something i find very interesting so i've given ot some thought here and there

For me , I think it goes like this:
1st generation โ†ช90's - early 2000's
2nd generation โ†ช 2005 - 2010/2011
3rd generation โ†ช 2012 - 2016/2017
4th generation โ†ช 2018 - present
I believe we're still in 4th generation until maybe next year or 2023.

We should still be in the 4th generation.
I think the marks for when it started are different for boy groups and girl groups though...
In my mind, 4th gen of boy groups started with Stray Kids and every group that debuted onwards (NCT Dream is sort of an honorary 4th gen member because of their ages).
Girl groups on the other hand, I think the 4th gen started somewhere around LOONA but I'm not really sure. The line is more blurry because I think it really depends on when a group becomes really popular instead of debut date.
I've heard plenty of people say we're in the 5th gen but I think it's way too soon for the 5th gen yet.
Maybe next year...

personally, i think we're in what some call "gen 4.5" or 4 and a half, meaning we're like halfway through fourth gen but still in it yk? i think fifth gen will come in likee 2023-early 2024 ><

4th gen, imo. i see a lot of ppl saying it's different for bg and gg, and i agree. i would start 4th gen bg around 2018 onward, like skz and txt. i would start 4th gg around 2019 onward, tho, mostly bc it wasn't until after itzy debut that i saw ppl talking abt 4th gen.

Actually, the year range of each kpop generation is correctly as followed:
1st Gen- 1996/1997 - 2002
2nd Gen- 2003 - 2011
3rd Gen- 2012 - 2017
4th Gen- 2017/2018 - present
