Briella and Saki are sitting in some grass with their backs to each other. Saki's head is on Briella's shoulder as she sleeps, but Briella is wide awake. Their outfits change from their dark to light outfits as the camera goes in circles around them.

As the guitar solo plays, images of each girl wrapped in dark ribbons, suspended between trees show. Their light outfits slowly turn dark as the ribbons engulf them in their shadows. At the end, Nilla opens her eyes to see what's happening to them.

Lindzy and Ayla watch this all happen from a mirror suspended from a tree. They're half shadows, half light as they hold hands. Each side fights the other, but they can't do anything about it as they stand frozen.

The camera pans into the mirror, which shows Nilla's book. The video warps as the camera moves into the mirror, but as it stabilizes it shows Nilla has disappeared. The book slams shut. The cover changes from the eight girls flying around in a clearing to the eight girls floating in a circle, holding hands, around a dark book.

Chapter 12: Cherry's Disappearance
"FMC's debut has been highly anticipated-""The drop of 'Fantasy' has left netizens wanting more-"
"Despite their pre-debut controversies, FMC has been topping the charts-"
"-with their debut concert being one of the most anticipated this year-"
Jiwoo listened to each FikLive reel, able to guess what everyone was talking about. FMC had only debuted 24 hours ago, and the public was already in love with them. Jiwoo couldn't contain her smile as she realized what this meant for her company and the girls.
Sitting across from her in the meeting room was Yeojin and Penni. They had just finished a staff meeting with everyone, but Jiwoo had remained behind to finish reading some paperwork. The other two didn't have a reason for staying, but they were still there anyways. Penni was scrolling on her phone, which was the source of each statement Jiwoo had heard regarding FMC. Yeojin was typing up notes from the meeting.
"What's the next step?" Penni asked suddenly, looking up at Jiwoo. Jiwoo sat down the paper she had been reading to focus on the question.
"What do you mean?"
"Now that FMC is officially a thing, what are we going to do next?" Penni stood up and walked to the back of the room as she talked. "We're going to be promoting the album for a while, of course. But what about after? Are we going to start promoting the girls individually, with acting careers or modeling gigs or even solos? Are we going to let them take a break for a while? Or are we going to hop straight into a comeback?"
She stopped at the large bookcase at the end of the room and began looking for a specific book as Jiwoo pondered her question.
"We can't afford to give them a break just yet. They've only just begun. I like the idea of giving them some ways of promoting, whether that's giving them a more active social media presence or some solo activities, like you suggested."
"We could organize a fan meeting! That's always a good way of promoting," Yeojin suggested.
Jiwoo nodded. "I think we take two more months to properly promote their debut album, then we give them about five to seven months of rest and solo activities. We don't want to overwork them during that time, but we also need to keep the public interested."
"How long would you say is a good time frame between comebacks?" Penni asked, still fishing around on the shelves. "I've always thought six months was a good amount, but what's your opinion on it?"
"I think it depends on the girls and the comeback. A longer album requires more time to rest afterward, because those usually require a lot of preparing. As groups get deeper into their careers, they can handle long breaks between albums without worrying about fans falling away. I think for a beginner group like FMC, six to eight months is a good time frame between comebacks."
Having found what she was looking for on the shelves, Penni came back to the main table with a triumphant look on her face. She dumped three books in front of Yeojin and Jiwoo, then spread them out.
"Here's what I propose we do during those break months," she said. With the books now spread out and facing Jiwoo, she was able to properly see what they were. Each belonged to a different series Penni had written. Jiwoo knew she had other books that weren't related to the members of FMC, but she didn't realize how many other books she had written. "I have three other worlds that exist beyond STS. I can begin pulling some characters out to create a new unit, if we still want to go with our original idea of a large group."
Jiwoo nodded, studying the books. The first one was titled The Elarion Chronicles: A Blossom's Thorn. The front cover image was of two girls: one blonde, the other brunette. Their profiles were halved so their faces fit together, making the illusion that they were one person. A black crown rested over their heads, with thorny vines wrapping around them.
The second one was called Dimension Jumpers: Lucy. Its front cover was of a blonde girl hanging off a skyscraper with one hand, which a black and white cat was holding onto with its two front paws. The third book's cover wasn't as artistic as the other two. It merely had a smiley face with a crown over it. This one was titled New Emotions: Traitor's Tiara.
"How do you have time for all this?" Jiwoo asked, quirking an eyebrow at Penni. "That's a lot of books to be released in, uh, how many years have you been doing this for?"
"I've published nineteen books in twelve years," she said proudly. "This series is ongoing," she pointed to Dimension Jumpers. "It's also currently being turned into a WebToon."
"Seriously, how do you have time for all of this?" Jiwoo shook her head in disbelief. Yeojin stared at the books with admiration.
"I don't sleep."
Jiwoo decided that made sense, based on the dark bruises under Penni's eyes.
"Anyways," she pointed to Dimension Jumpers. "I think this book has the best characters to debut next."
"Didn't you just say the series isn't finished yet?" Yeojin asked her.
"Yes, that is true, but the events have already passed in their universe. I'm just trying to catch up with my books."
"Why do you think they would be the best?" Jiwoo asked, picking up the book and studying it. It was less thick than the others she had brought out, but it was still a decent size.
"One of them already has experience doing this stuff. She's a famous pop star in her world. The others don't necessarily have that type of experience, but the grievances of the K-Pop world are nothing new to them. Annie knows how to captivate an audience. Jennie has trained to be in a survival show type thing for years. Lucy performed on the streets for a living. Those are just the main characters."
Jiwoo laughed and nodded. "Alright. After promotions for Destiny are over, bring them to me. I'm excited to meet them."

"Role call!" Nilla called out to the members of her group. The girls were all in the dressing room of (F)K-Pop Live, getting ready for their debut concert. Despite the fact that they were all at varying points of getting ready, the girls all responded accordingly.
"Lindzy!"
"Hanni!"
"Nilla!"
"Ayla!"
"Navy!"
"Kiri!"
"Saki!"
"Briella!"
"FMC, show 'em what you got!" Nilla called.
The girls all laughed, but before they could start singing their introduction song they made based off Nilla's favorite musical, the door to their dressing room opened. A staff member ran in, although the girls didn't recognize her from their style team. They all exchanged confused looks as she ran to their head stylist, Kang Minju. The two had a hushed conversation before the staff member ran back out.
"What was that all about?" Lindzy asked Minju, but Minju didn't answer. She stood there silently, a thoughtful expression on her face. The girls all left their stations to crowd around her, now curious about what was going on. The stylists tried to pull the girls back, but they refused to leave until Minju gave them whatever news that staff member had given her.
"Alright, everyone, go finish getting ready!" she called out suddenly. "You all have to be onstage in twenty minutes. Except Saki and Hanni, I need to talk to you two."
The sisters exchanged a confused look. Their partners looked to their respective girlfriends, but they both brushed them off. Hesitantly, each girl went back to her station to finish getting ready. Minju stayed silent until it was only Saki and Hanni left, then she looked at them with a concerned expression.
"What's going on, Miss Kang?" Hanni asked nervously.
Minju let out a sigh before answering her question. "If it were up to me, I wouldn't be sharing this news before your big performance, but I have little choice in the matter. Girls, the search you asked us to do on your sister has failed. She's not with her company anymore. It appears that St4rlight has disbanded, and your sister has disappeared."
The girls gasped and began asking Minju several questions over each other. Their tones grew louder and louder, bringing the attention of the other FMC members to them.
"What do you mean, she's gone?"
"Do they know where she went after disbandment?"
"How did they disband that quickly?"
"Is anyone looking for her?"
"Girls!" Minju snapped, making them go silent. "We're doing all we can, but she's not our idol. We have no idea where she has gone, and it seems her company doesn't, either."
"Mom's going to kill us," Saki groaned.
Hanni ran a distressed hand through her hair. "We're going to have to look for her ourselves, Saki."
"What? You can't do that!" Minju argued, but Hanni shook her head.
"We'll do the debut concert, but after that, we have to find our sister."
Minju looked like she was going to argue further, but then the door burst open and Penni ran inside. "Girls, have any of you seen Yeojin? Uh- Manager… I forgot her last name… Have any of you guys seen your manager?"
"I haven't seen her all night," Nilla said, then winced as her shift of head caused the stylist to accidentally burn her scalp with the curling iron she was using.
"Hold still!" the stylist scolded.
"Sorry!"
"And no one else has seen her?" Penni asked, looking around the room. The other members of FMC shook their heads no.
"Great, just great," Penni ran a hand through her hair, messing up her already messy curls even more.
"Manager Lynn, please tell these girls that they can't leave promotions just to look for their lost sister!" Minju urged her. Penni shook her head.
"Sorry Minju, I can't stop them. In fact, these kids like to do the opposite of what I tell them. I think it's best for everyone if I just stay out of this one. Talk to Jiwoo if you want some help with that."
Then Penni turned around and ran out of the room, leaving Minju red-faced and fuming. Saki turned back to her. "One night, then we're going after our sister."

"Seriously, where is that woman?" Penni grumbled as she nervously tapped her foot. Her phone was in her hands, and she was constantly glancing down at it. It was currently open to her group chat with Jiwoo and Yeojin, but neither had answered the texts she had spammed within the last few minutes.
Finally, Jiwoo answered.
Jiwoo: I can't find her anywhere, can you cover for her?
Penni cursed and turned off the phone. She rushed to the changing room, where the girls were waiting for their manager to take them to the stage. There was only five minutes left until the show started, so Penni knew she had to hurry.
"Alright everyone, let's go!" she yelled once she was in the changing room. The girls were all standing around, gossiping with each other to help with their stress.
"Did you find Yeojin?" Nilla asked as the girls made their way to her.
"Nope. I'm your manager today. That means no funny business," she glared at Briella, who merely smirked and put her hands in the air.
"I haven't even done anything yet," she said as she followed Nilla out of the room. Next came Lindzy, Navy, Kiri and Alysha.
"We're missing two. Where are they?" she turned to Nilla, who was herding everyone towards the stage.
"Still talking to Miss Kang. You kind of made her mad earlier, and now she's taking it out on those two."
Penni rolled her eyes. "I'll deal with her. Can you take everyone to the stage?"
"Yep!"
Penni made sure they were all leaving before entering th eroom. She made her way to the very back, where Minju was chewing out Hanni for her "lack of respect for her group, managers, and CEO." Saki was nowhere in sight.
"Yo, stop yelling at my child!" Penni snapped when she saw this. "That's my job."
"These girls-"
"I told you, Jiwoo will deal with it," Penni said, then turned to Hanni. "Where's your sister?"
"She ran off when Miss Kang started yelling."
Penni sighed. "Naturally." She rubbed her head, feeling a headache coming on. "I'll go look for her. The other members have already gone backstage, so you can join them. You know where it is, right?"
Hanni nodded, then ran off. Penni turned her attention to Minju. "Jiwoo will be hearing about this."
Then she turned around and ran off.

Saki slid down the wall and tucked her head between her knees. She couldn't stabilize her breathing or her thoughts. She couldn't stand yelling. She just couldn't.
Not only was Cherry gone, but she was in a completely different world. Sure, it was mostly like her world. But it was still different. She saw people staring at her colorful eye all the time. In her world, her eye was normal.
She didn't like this world.
Now Cherry was lost in this world. She was probably confused, sad, mad at her sisters for ditching her.
Saki wished she had known Cherry had followed them sooner. She wished she had looked for her sooner. Or done it herself. Now Cherry was gone, and it was all her fault.
Why did everyone always suffer because of her?
She tried to hold in the tears, not wanting them to smear her makeup. Instead, she made small, panicked gasps. That made it harder to breathe, but Saki didn't care. Unless if someone heard her, which would've been embarassing.
She hoped no one else was there.
She wished Briella was with her. Or Owen. Or Forrest. Or even Hanni.
"Dear, are you alright?" a woman asked, and Saki gasped. Someone else was there. Her fears were coming true.
She slowly looked up to see a concerned woman standing there. Saki didn't know who she was, but the woman's kind look made her calm down slightly. The woman crouched down in front of her and met Saki's eyes. "What's your name, dear?"
"Saki."
A light of recognition flashed in the woman's eyes. "You're a member of FMC, right? I take it this is your concert?" the woman asked in a soothing tone. Saki nodded slowly.
The woman shifted so she was sitting next to Saki. She rested her hands on her legs, and Saki noticed a sparkling diamond ring on her right ring finger. She focused on the ring, memorizing every curve and glint of light in it.
"Where's your manager, dear?"
Saki shrugged, not meeting the woman's eyes.
"That's alright. Why don't we take a few deep breaths, okay? That will make you feel better."
Saki wasn't sure anything could make her feel better, but she followed along with the woman as she lead her through some breathing exercizes anyway.
When the woman was done, she let Saki sit in silence for a minute while she calmed down a bit.
"Are you feeling a bit better now, dear?"
Saki nodded slowly.
"Performing onstage can seem scary, huh?"
Saki just nodded again in response to the question. She didn't want the woman to know the real reason for her panic attack.
"If you want, I can offer you some advice to help when performing can start to seem scary," the woman offered. Saki looked up, and the woman smiled at her. She still wasn't sure who the woman was, but Saki found herself trusting her despite that fact.
The woman ran her through some exercises to help with anxiety, and Saki listened to each one intently. She'd never been good at controlling her panic attacks, despite everything her parents, partners and therapists had tried. Yet somehow, she knew everything this woman was suggesting would work. Maybe it was the certain way she presented the advice, or the kind way she gave it. Either way, Saki wished this woman worked at RE:VENGE instead of Miss Kang.
When she thought of Miss Kang, she immediately winced.
"Are you alright, dear?" the woman asked.
"Who are you?" Saki asked suddenly, curious about knowing this woman better.
"My name is Choi Minji. You can call me Manager Choi, if you prefer."
"You're a manager? At what company?" Saki asked, her anxiety gone now that she had something else to focus on.
The woman laughed. "I'm a manger for CreSCN-"
Then she was interupted by the door to the practice room Saki had holed herself up in bursting open. Penni stood in the doorway, frazzled and breathing hard. "Oh, thank goodness! There you are!"
"Are you this girl's manager?" Choi Minji stood up as Penni strode into the room.
"Temporary manager. Her actual manager decided to pull the disappearing act on us," Penni turned her attention to Saki. "Are you alright? I told Jiwoo about what happened. Minju won't be working at RE:VENGE for much longer."
"And what about Cherry?" Saki asked hopefully, fidgeting with a bracelet on her wrist.
"Jiwoo said that you and Hanni can look for her after this concert," Penni said. "I can help as well, if you would like."
Saki nodded. "Thank you."
"The girls are all backstage. If you're feeling better, you can join them. They'll be performing 'Fantasy' in about a minute now, so you'd better hurry."
Saki nodded, then rushed away. When she was gone, Penni turned to Minji. "Thanks for helping, uh…"
"Choi Minji."
"Minji."
"It sounds like your company needs some new managers."
Penni shrugged. "We definitely do, but unfortunately, we don't have many other options."
"I'd reccomend starting with removing your current manager. It seems like you'd make a better manager than her. Saki seems to trust you, at least."
Penni made a face. "I can't be those girls' manager. They already think I'm their mother."
Minji gave her a confused look. "What?"
"Nothing."
Penni blushed then walked off, leaving Minji with several questions about what was going at RE:VENGE.

"Seriously, where is that woman?" Penni grumbled as she nervously tapped her foot. Her phone was in her hands, and she was constantly glancing down at it. It was currently open to her group chat with Jiwoo and Yeojin, but neither had answered the texts she had spammed within the last few minutes.
Finally, Jiwoo answered.
Jiwoo: I can't find her anywhere, can you cover for her?
Penni cursed and turned off the phone. She rushed to the changing room, where the girls were waiting for their manager to take them to the stage. There was only five minutes left until the show started, so Penni knew she had to hurry.
"Alright everyone, let's go!" she yelled once she was in the changing room. The girls were all standing around, gossiping with each other to help with their stress.
"Did you find Yeojin?" Nilla asked as the girls made their way to her.
"Nope. I'm your manager today. That means no funny business," she glared at Briella, who merely smirked and put her hands in the air.
"I haven't even done anything yet," she said as she followed Nilla out of the room. Next came Lindzy, Navy, Kiri and Alysha.
"We're missing two. Where are they?" she turned to Nilla, who was herding everyone towards the stage.
"Still talking to Miss Kang. You kind of made her mad earlier, and now she's taking it out on those two."
Penni rolled her eyes. "I'll deal with her. Can you take everyone to the stage?"
"Yep!"
Penni made sure they were all leaving before entering th eroom. She made her way to the very back, where Minju was chewing out Hanni for her "lack of respect for her group, managers, and CEO." Saki was nowhere in sight.
"Yo, stop yelling at my child!" Penni snapped when she saw this. "That's my job."
"These girls-"
"I told you, Jiwoo will deal with it," Penni said, then turned to Hanni. "Where's your sister?"
"She ran off when Miss Kang started yelling."
Penni sighed. "Naturally." She rubbed her head, feeling a headache coming on. "I'll go look for her. The other members have already gone backstage, so you can join them. You know where it is, right?"
Hanni nodded, then ran off. Penni turned her attention to Minju. "Jiwoo will be hearing about this."
Then she turned around and ran off.
