If I change my name on the forum would it effect my login?

My username doesn't have a lot of meaning for me anymore and I have been honestly considering to changing it for a little while, while it will still have Star in the name it made me wonder.

If I change my username on the forum would it have to be updated on the login or would I be able to login with my new username and current password?
(I'm getting ready for bed so I'm a little tired and hope that makes sense ).

For me, when I change my user, I had to put in the NEW user and the password

if you log in with your email no, it shouldn't affect yoru login.
