i wasn't even born when it aired but did manage to watch part of it during the re runs although i don't think i watched more than half of it, Ranma is such a legendary series that i always have pending go back and watch it but it was showing it's age so it was kinda hard to do so thankfully all those issues are solved by the remake

I was 7 years old when it first premiered in 1989, it remains one of my all-time favorite anime.
Own the 1st season on dvd, all of the OVA's, and the three Ranma anime movies.

Since you've watched it, would you recommend it? It does seem legendary and a good old anime to watch. I'mma add it to my 400+ animes plusLOL

the old version is hard to recommend because of how hard is to find where to watch but the new version is going to be premiere at Netflix in just a couple of weeks so i would definitely recommend watching that one

if you never watched Ranma, Ranma and his dad are martial artists they went to China to improve but during their training they ignored the advice from the locals and went to the hot waters which were said to be cursed, both fall and when they emerge Ranma became a girl (the redhead in the poster) and his dad a panda the way the curse works is that each time they come in contact with cold water they transform and the only way to revert is being soak in hot water, they go back to Japan and stay with the best friend of his dad while they find a cure meanwhile is also revealed that they had set up a marriage between him and the youngest daughter Akane but they can't stand each other and that is the set up for the story

Ranma is a "tough guy" so for him to become a girl is something he considers embarrassing thus he hides that from everyone but his dad and Akane's family, his rivals are men (who aren't aware of the curse) and while they hate his guts when he is a guy they fall in love with "her" when he becomes a girl, again without knowing the two are the same Ranma, Akane on the other hand is interested in martial arts but is not taken seriously for being a girl and while she hates Ranma for being a jerk she does respect his abilities also the doesn't treat her different when he becomes a girl so despite being rude is clear is not because he considers her below him for being a girl like the others do

also the old version's op theme is cute

Been watching it since 1987! First anime I watched was Tekkaman: The Space Knight which originally aired in 1975 but it was in re-runs throughout 1984-'87. I don't watch a lot of modern anime though, last anime I watched when it was new was Witch Hunter ROBIN in 2002.

As for the original Ranma 1/2, this is my favorite theme from the show.
