SM Entertainment has again been charged with plagiarism. However, this time they are accused of plagiarizing not one but two separate works for Aespa's "Black Mamba" teaser.

On Sunday, November 15, SM Entertainment released the teaser for Aespa's debut track "Black Mamba". The teaser piqued the interest of international fans with its vivid color palette and the many different worlds in which the girls are seen even in just 40 seconds.

However, K-pop fans immediately noticed how similar the teasers are with the music video for “POP / STARS,” a song by League of Legends virtual girl group K / DA.

First, fans noticed that the two videos were set in a subway. Both videos feature a subway station sign that flashes the band name and song title. Additionally, both videos feature the artist standing in the middle of the subway train, posing as the camera.

Additionally, fans noticed that both videos used the same neon colors. The two artists in each video are also seen using spray paint for the graffiti.

The "Black Mamba" has an overall aesthetic similar to the creature seen in the "POP / STARS" music video.

This is not the first time that Aespa has been compared to K / DA. When SM Entertainment first posted photo teasers for Aespa’s “AI” members, Korean netizens immediately compared the photo with K / DA’s teaser for “POP / STARS”.

When Aespa's teaser was first released, many claimed that the quality of Aespa's teaser was significantly lower than that of K / DA. Some have even accused SM Entertainment of copying K / DA. On the flip side, some fans suggested that the "AI" teasers sounded too much like the members of BLACKPINK, to the point that it looked like fanart.

In addition, a German visual artist, Timo Helgert, pointed out the similarity of his past work with the Aespa teaser. Timo Helgert claimed that it "seems [SM Entertainment] copied" his work, saying "they didn't ask [him] and [he] didn't work on it."

Many have pointed out how similar this effect was to the past work of Tom Helgert, which he shared with his fans on his social media accounts.
Fans can't help but "question SM Entertainment's intentions."

Here are some comments:

"Isn't SM Entertainment a great agency? What is this complete lack of creativity ... It's shocking. "
"What is wrong with them ..."
"Are they kidding, from AVATAR to the MV, it all overlaps. How can they continue to insist that they haven't plagiarized? There are so many similarities. "
"Is this a new K / DA cover band?"
“LMFAO. Seriously though ... It's so obvious. What are they even doing?
This is not the first time that aespa has faced allegations of plagiarism. K / DA hasn't ceased to be mentioned since the "AI" concept of aespa was initially revealed but with the release of the MV teaser, it seems to get worse.

At this time, SM Entertainment has not released a statement on the issue.

What do you think ?
I do not know at all what to think of it, I just think that Internet users criticize too quickly: the MV comes out tomorrow.
I love KDA, I admit that the concept of aespa looks like KDA, But it's not COPY-PASTE. We must not abuse anyway! Wait for the MV to come out to criticize.

Thanks for reading!

ngl i really think it’s a bad time to debut aespa rn
SM debuts groups to cover up scandals, we've seen in the past how they debut Red Velvet about a month before Jessica left SNSD, and now i think that the timing of Aespa's debut might be something to cover up Red Velvet Irene's bullying scandal.
Also, just a theory, but i think something might happen to Red Velvet. we saw how Red Velvet debuted a month before Jessica left SNSD, so if Aespa is debuting tomorrow, something might happen to Red Velvet in the future. idk, maybe i'm thinking too much lol
