ok tbh i still get confused with kpop's generation. so can someone tell me which groups are in which generation. i only know that 1st gen groups are sechskies, shinhwa, h.o.t, god, s.e.s, finkl....

wow i dont think i've seen 5th gen used very much, i've mostly seen circle who were still debating if 4th gen had already started.

I personally think it kinda started but we will never know until it has ig
usually i think of it in terms of debut years:
1st gen: 1990s up to 2001ish maybe
2nd gen: 2000s right up to about 2012ish
3rd gen: 2012ish to 2018ish?
4th gen: 2018ish? and ongoing
obviously there isn't a hard set line between generations, and releases/artists close to my relatively arbitrary dates have enough in common that it can get confusing. personally i mark shifts in kpop generations as coinciding mainly with the debuts and popularization of SM groups, specifically boy groups, and i have entertained the theory that boy groups and girl groups are on separate kpop timelines. i also think that each generation has a mid generation shift. i haven't sat down to really give it thought and research so its all speculation.
anyway yea i usually look at their debut date and use that to determine roughly what generation they are.
