This isn't exactly kpop, but it's important to Korea and their entertainment industry.
Yesterday, the OSCARS were held. If you don't know what they are, it is the most prestigious award show for movies and actors. So the kpop comparison would be MAMA.
Last year "Parasite" became the first ever Korean anything to win an OSCAR. Amazingly it won Best Picture, which is the most important award of the night.
This year a Korean movie called "Minari" was up for pretty much the same awards as "Parasite". It didn't end up winning Best Picture, but Best Supporting Actress.
This was awarded to Korean actress Youn Yuh Jung!
I think this is a huge accomplishment we should celebrate. Hopefully it is an indication that the US is becoming less nationalistic and truly recognizing who is deserved of an award.
I haven't seen the movie since it's not free on any streaming service yet, but I reccommend you watch it.
Fun fact: the guy who played Glenn on "The Walking Dead" was the male lead and was also nominated for Best Actor, but he didn't win.
I think it's so cool to see how far he has come from a zombie tv show to OSCAR gold.
