1. ITZY's concept is over-hated
People rant on and on abt how ITZY's self love concept is so hypocritical, and while I think it kind of is...they're a kpop group for goodness sake not a protest. Their concept fits the teen crush label more, and their songs are fun, like how in Sneakers they're talking about how they'll always run together freely, wannabe is about being yourself, born to be is about being born ready, and so on. People definitely take ITZY's concept way too seriously. People were hating on ITZY's concept so much to the point where people were saying that ITZY should disband. On an unrelated note, 2NE1 actually had good songs about self-love if my memory is correct.
2. TWICE's recent releases aren't good
I feel like TWICE's quality of music has gone down a lot since 2021/2022. The latest release of Twice, One Spark, is actually forgettable for me. The album is quite generic despite Twice being a group known for good bsides. Set me Free was absolutely an experimental flop, but the bsides were decent especially Crazy Stupid Love and Wallflower. Talk that Talk was a solid release but I think the line distribution could've been handled better. For a nugu, this would've been a good discography but from one of the leading 3rd gen girl groups? A beloved group nicknamed Nation's Sisters? I know Twice can do better than this.
3. NewJeans members aren't amazingly talented
So many NewJeans stans RANT ON about how the group has amazing vocals, how the group has amazing dancers, how the group has amazing stage presence, how the group has amazing everything. I feel bad for saying this, but the only member who is talented is Hanni. Haerin is extremely forgettable for me, to the extent where I thought Newjeans was a 4 member group. I always mix up Haerin and Hyein's lines. She is a good vocalist though. Hyein is young, and talented but has room for improvement. Danielle is a decent vocalist but Hanni is still stronger. Minji also is kind of weak, she is a talk-rapper and a weak vocalist. The group is strong in dance, but skill-wise they're below average in vocals and even lower in rap. Their viral sound propels them to the point where they have an extremely large fanbase who are kind of delulu. Of course, I can't do any better but when comparing NewJeans's skillset to a group like AESPA, NMIXX, then comparing the popularity...it really shows that popularity≠talent.
3. UNIS is an example of what will happen to KPOP
UNIS is a group that was formed through a survival show named Universe Ticket. From 1999-liners to 2011-liners, contestants competed for a spot in an 8 member group, and the final lineup consists of 7 minors. The non-minor is notably a 2001 liner, while the youngest member is a 2011-liner. This is incredibly saddening, as more and more 2000-2003 liners are not debuting while 12 year Olds do. Companies choose minors purposely for popularity, clout and s*xualisation reasons. They may be talented, but they should wait until their at least a bit older. Unfortunately I think Seowon (2011 liner) debuting is the start of 2010+ liners debuting in KPOP in the next few years, not just in girl groups but in boy groups too.
4. NewJeans was strategically debuted
NewJeans is a girl group under HYBE LABELS. The label debuted a group before NewJeans, called LESSERAFIM which is also quite popular and trendy. Unfortunately, one of the members were caught in a scandal after the debut, who is known as Kim Garam. Garam was allegedly bullying others of her school, as well as drawing rude and explicit pictures. She was kicked out of the group soon after debut. HYBE didn't want people to know about Garam's departure from LESSERAFIM so they decided to debut NewJeans. If you think about it, the company would've needed to plan for a few months, and regarding the scandal they would've planned NewJeans's debut to overshadow Garam's departure.
5. Wonyoung isn't that bad of an idol skill-wise
Many people claim that Wonyoung is a "useless dozen" and that she does not contribute AT ALL to IVE. While she may be slightly overrated, Wonyoung has an amazing standard of stage presence, as well as a huge popularity fanbase. Without her, IVE would probably stay at EVERGLOW-level popularity, so while people continue to discredit Wonyoung they overlook the fact that she brings a lot of popularity to IVE. She also isn't that bad of a dancer, her body alignments enhance her moves greatly. However her vocals are pretty weak and she lip syncs nearly all of the notes while members that others rank lower in terms of vocals like Rei and Leeseo are able to hit their notes, especially Rei. The point is that Wonyoung isn't overrated, she's over-loved and over-hated.
6. Kawaguchi Yurina wasn't rigged out of Kep1er
Kawaguchi Yurina was a contestant on the survival show Girl's Planet 999. She was one of the popular contenders for the final lineup, yet placed 14th in the finale, unable to claim a spot in the group which later would be known as Kep1er. Many people complained about how she was so called rigged out of the group. MNET actually seemed to like her. The judges always spoke highly of her. Fans said that with global votes Yurina would've probably made the lineup, but in both prospects she wouldn't have even ranked high enough to make the final lineup.
(Yurina ranks 12th in Korean Votes and 11th in Global Votes)
