I'm currently watching a video about QUEENDOM Season 1 and now I'm just thinking about the artists that participated on QUEENDOM.
One 'curse' that's often spoken about in Kpop is the Produce curse, due to the facts that many acts that came from the Produce series failing, with Produce 48 seeming to be the only exception due to the fact IVE, LE SSERAFIM and Yena in particular are now very popular, potentially even more popular than IZ*ONE.
But, perhaps another curse we could think about is the QUEENDOM curse. This is mostly a joke post, based on something I kept seeing on TikTok. I also don't know much about KINGDOM but like SKZ and ATEEZ were on it and they're doing fine.
Anyway, what happened to all the acts on QUEENDOM:
AOA:
Probably having the worst luck following Queendom, their last comeback was in December 2019. In 2020, ex-member Mina accused leader Jimin of bullying, which resulted in Jimin leaving AOA, and Yuna leaving not too long after. No disbandment news has been made however with only 3 members remaining and no promotions we can assume the group has silently disbanded.
PARK BOM:
Since Queendom, Park Bom has had not much of a huge career, though she did perform at coachella with 2NE1. Overall, she doesn't seem to have been affected by a "curse", but Queendom did not benefit her.
LOVELYZ:
LOVELYZ released their final comeback in 2020 before disappearing and being announced to have disbanded in 2021.
OH MY GIRL:
Oh My Girl has been quite successful since Queendom, releasing Nonstop (with bside Dolphin) which was a huge success. Dun Dun Dance followed the year after which was also successful but a decrease. In 2022 they released Real Love, which was not as popular as their previous releases. Jiho also left the group. Oh My Girl does not seemed to have been "cursed" and rather seem to be experiencing a natural timeline for a kpop girl group (sadly).
MAMAMOO:
Mamamoo won Queendom, and had an immediate successful comeback with HIP. Hwasa's second solo comeback Maria was extremely successful. Solar and Wheein also received music show wins for their solo debuts Spit It Out and Water Color. However, within recent years, MAMAMOO have been becoming less active though not completely fading from relevancy. Wheein left RBW and Mamamoo is expected to disband in December 2023 as of now. Similar to Oh My Girl, I don't believe this is a curse but rather the natural cycle of girl groups in Kpop.
(G)I-DLE:
(G)I-DLE have had the most success since Queendom out of all the artists. After Queendom, their song Oh My Girl blew up and after the group released two more songs (Dumdi Dumdi and Hwaa), disaster hit. Soojin was accused of bullying and eventually left the group. This left many fans angry and devastated. However, despite her departure, (G)I-DLE had one of their most successful years yet, with Tomboy and Nxde. (G)I-DLE seem to be a victim of this "curse" but seem to have survived it.
LOONA:
Moving onto Queendom 2, after their release of Flip That, the group began to fall apart. Scheduling conflicts with member Chuu caused her to be absent from tours, with other members falling ill or having to sit out. Chuu was then kicked out from the group which led to all the members eventually filling to end their contracts. Kim Lip, Jinsoul, Choerry and Heejin all successfully ended their contracts and have left BBC. Currently their future is uncertain.
Brave Girls:
Brave Girls had no comebacks after Queendom 2 and disbanded February 2023.
WJSN:
WJSN's last comeback was Last Sequence in the summer of 2022. At the beginning of March 2023, it was announced Luda and Dawon, along with the long time absent Chinese members of the group, would no longer be members of the group (unless everyone who claims Dawon and Luda didn't leave are correct by some mircale). WJSN's career has been quite mediocre despite winning Queendom 2.
Hyolyn:
Quite like Bom, Hyolyn's career has been quite quiet since finishing Queendom.
VIVIZ:
VIVIZ have continued at a similar level of popularity that they had before Queendom, and have had two comebacks since.
Kep1er:
Due to being a temporary group, Kep1er have been quite active, having many Korean and Japanese comebacks, and also got to perform on a Rookie stage with other popular debut acts from 2022. Despite this, Kep1er tend to get mixed feedback from the public, with many blaming their company for not utilising their members properly.
Well, what do you think? Is there such thing as a Queendom curse? And who got hit the worst if there is?
