Question(s) About Hosting Stuff

I was just wondering, could non-mods host unofficial layout contests and the like or can only mods do that?

For example, if I wanted to host a layout contest (not for any holidays bc I assume those are all gonna be held officially by mods, but like for any specific comeback or theme) would I have to apply to be a mod for that or would i be okay with just putting "unofficial" in the title and specifying that there won't be any credits earned and the prizes will be different?

this has never been discussed, but it will be necessary to organize with a mod so as not to have a mod that posts a contest at the same time as another non-mod member

I believe we've had people hold unofficial contests while the mods held the Halloween contest so I don't see why not, you'd just have to make sure people know it's an unofficial contest and speak with a mod to make sure the thread follows the forum rules.
