So I'm sure we all have certain dramas we just love so much to watch, not just because they're good, but also because they just make us feel good and comfy. I felt like sharing some of my favs (kind of a top 3?) of those and obviously, I can highly recommend all of them!!
Here we go:

1. Kikai Sentai Zenkaiger (2021)

Before I get into it, this is the 45th season of Super Sentai *, but (almost) every season is a standalone season, in usual long Tokusatsu ** show fashion. Funnily enough, even though this is somewhat of an anniversary season, it was my first Sentai season. The greatest thing about Sentai is that you can really start anywhere and enjoy it! Gah, I still miss all the characters and the cast so much they're so precious. One of my favourite things about the Toku casts is that they're often really close, even some decades after still talking about the show and being a fan of it and staying friends with the other actors. :]

To get to the story, it really is something that has to be watched to really understand what it's all about. I guess you could say it's about this guy (Kaito), who wants to be, not the best, but the 1st to ever do (something), then goes on to look for his lost parents and gathers a bunch of robot friends from another world that got fused with his? Oh and then there are also dancing/singing pirates and a half human, half robot antagonist (but he considers him his bestie). :]
The most important part for me the characters and their relationships, character developments... And of course, Kaito, the main character, who is... Definitely a bit of an idiot but that's what makes him so great, especially given how overly wholesome and sappy he is, I just can't help but love those characters, they're just too lovable dammit!!

Also I always love the funny out of context memeable content Toku shows give us and this one definitely did not disappoint.

* Super Sentai ("Sentai" = "task force" / "fighting squadron") is a Tokusatsu/superhero show, every season is usually about a main protagonist/ranger and their team. They transform into superheroes with the corresponding seasons main (marketable) gadget and their suits are always colour coded, often their "civilian" looks are, too.
If you're unfamiliar with this name, you might know them as "Power Rangers" instead, which is not only the name of the American adaption, but also the name of some dubs of the show (like the Korean one as far as I know)!
**Tokusatsu ( = "special effects"), a Japanese genre that's all about practical special effects. A lot of the shows mainly have genres such as science fiction, fantasy, horror, war... One Tokusatsu franchise probably everyone knows is Godzilla.

While Tokusatsu on its own is one of the most popular genres in Japan, it really isn't all that big outside of it and that's also very noticeable since it is often very hard to find content about it. But the international community is definitely a very open and friendly one and always welcoming new people to the genre.

2. Nijiiro Karute (2021)

This drama starts with the story of the protagonist, Kureno Masora, who loves being a doctor and once she learned that she's got a terminal illness and couldn't work as a doctor anymore, she was absolutely crushed. By chance (and she might have lied about not having any health problems when applying) she got hired as a doctor in a rural village's clinic. There are only two others working in there and together with her, those will form the main character trio of the drama that is just so precious and dear to me.
In every episode you get to meet another villager and learn about their stories and everything is just so uplifting but also bittersweet at times. The story that got me the most, without spoiling any names, was definitely about a person suffering from amnesia and the villagers coming together to make sure they can still live a happy life and make wonderful temporary memories every time.
Of course, while it can get a bit sad, it never misses to lift you up with it and it's full of beautiful messages. Also definitely funny, it's often rather goofy but I absolutely love it.

This was actually one of the very first few dramas I watched when I really got into jdramas. I first mainly watched dramas with Arata Iura since loved his character in Yakuza 0 so much (Tachibana) and when I found out he was played by an actual actor I was just really happy kghdjg.

3. Dorokei (2018)

Dorokei is about Tsutomu Madarame, a rookie detective. He gets transferred into a special unit and he isn't even really interested in his job at all since he deals with more "boring" crimes.
A lot of things change when he meets Kemuri in a bar, where they begin to frequently talk. Thing about Kemuri is, he's kind of a master thief. And being one, he normally wouldn't stick around a detective, but they become friends and he even helps Madarame with his cases. It seems to all run smoothly, until there's someone having his suspicions about the two...

This one really caught me by surprise at how good it is. I fell in love with the show so fast and didn't even expect there to be a really interesting storyline and I absolutely loved it. And yes, another drama I first watched because of a Yakuza actor: Endo Kenichi (also plays one of the best characters, Sugiuchi in Yakuza 4!).

Yeah anyway! If you're still reading this (and I don't blame everyone who saw the wall of text and dipped gkfdhjhg): Do you know any of those? Do you wanna check them out? And what are your personal emotional support shows?

Hmmmm…
Does it need to be a light/fun show?? bc a lot of my comfort shows are dark alsjkdh
For a truly light one: Psych
Darker ones: Word of Honour (sad and sad ending but then a happy post-credits scene), The Untamed (sad but a happy ending), Guardian (happy but a gut-wrenching ending)
Anyway yeah :)

Of course, they can be any genre! This is all about what everyone's personal ones are. :]
I watch mostly darker dramas and love it the most for a lot of things (for example Ourobouros, I love it so so much and I still think about it all the time it's so good and so bittersweet and heartbreaking), just for my list I wanted to add some light-hearted ones I thought anyone could enjoy!

From the ones you listed, Guardian sounds really interesting. /gen
I personally hate romance as a genre, so I don't really watch works around that, but I kinda live for subtext (Tokusatsu has changed me, it is so full of heated drama between men it's unreal), so I guess, in a weird way, a censored adaption is just right for me?? (As much as the whole concept/meta of the censored adaptions of bl/gl is really frustrating, but where there is a will there always is a way, you love to see it)

YESSS I really don’t like overt romance either!!
Guardian, Word of Honour, and The Untamed are all censored adaptations of BL novels, and they’re all so- ughhhhHHH /pos
They have really subtext romance and it’s so nice 😭

Oh yeah, I've heard about Untamed a lot before in drama communities, it seems to be really good! Honestly I might check that one out too then :]
