There are many opinions about what the top groups are. However, the only ones we’ve come across that appear to have an objective basis are those created by the Korean Business Research Institute (KBRI). These rankings are determined through an analysis of the consumer participation, media coverage, interaction, and community indexes of various girl groups. The KBRI statistics are released monthly. Our analysis provides a broader and more balanced view by combining the monthly rankings into annual averages. KBRI continues to include disbanded groups. For example, Girl’s Day, f(x) and CAMILA are included in the top 30 this month even though they have all been disbanded. The KBRI rankings are based on social media metrics only. For example, OH MY GIRL has ranked number 3 for 8 periods and number 7 for 10 periods during the time that we have maintained data for this analysis.

The first column shows the difference in rank between the current month and the previous month. The next column shows the difference in rank between the current month and a half year ago.

Brave Girls has shown the largest increase moving up 3 positions since last month and 11 positions since half year ago. aespa continues its rise moving up 11 positions from 18th place since half year ago. On the other hand, ITZY, (G)I-DLE and WJSN have shown the largest decrease in popularity since half year ago. The popularity of the top 10 groups is remarkably stable. The lower the rank, the more variable the rank distribution becomes.
