nothing against you, but i am so sick of this wonyoung debate. she's just a normal teenage girl and ppl hate her bc she's young, successful, and beautiful. if ppl don't like her, they need to just leave her alone. that said, i love wonyo. she's been one of my favorite idols since iz*one and i'm glad to see her grow in success

I agree, but anyone will pick and make fun of someone who is very successful or popular. I still don't understand. It happens with many idols. "Fans" will find the smallest things and call them "pick me's", just like when Wonyoung was simply eating a strawberry and she gained hate. But i love her so much so <3

I like her sm, her personnality is so soft and I really enjoy waching her vlogs, I dont get why she get so much hate even when she's just eating a pizza or a strawberry

I think part of the problem when it comes to Wonyoung is that Korea itself already has quite a different culture than Western countries like the UK or the USA. So for people living in these countries, the whole aegyo culture is already shocking, but most fans put aside feelings towards that to love their own idol.

Of course though, the reason why Wonyoung gets all the shit that she does is out of jealousy. But there's also an element of the issue with debuting minors in Kpop.

Wonyoung is gorgeous. She's tall. She's popular. She's successful. And she's only 18. Yknow how many Kpop stans are gonna be insecure about their looks, height, how liked they are, how much they're achieving? There'll be fans who are older than her and have achieved less. They feel bad about themselves, they see this girl as a mockery of themselves, and out of spite they find any reason they can dislike her and use it. Why would she eat a strawberry with two hands? Isn't that weird! She can't throw a ball? How lame. Ha she's lipsyncing not as talented as we all thought!

But then let's also remember Wonyoung debuted when she was 14. At 14 she was this cute, loveable baby. Doing loads of aegyo and shit was sooooo cute and everyone would lose their minds over her. Of course, let's not be stupid, Wonyoung has been getting hate from Day 1 because of placing 1st over Sakura in P48 (now that IVE and Le Sserafim are two separate groups I think this is less of a reason though may still be valid). But I think because she was still a child it was a lot more accepted to just act the way she did.

Imagine how damaging it must be mentally, to be loved for one thing one minute, and then despised for it for the next. As a child, she probably cognitively processed when I do this, people love me, so I should do it more. And now it's probably not very easy to unlearn this mentality.

Wonyoung isn't the only idol who has gone through this. I'm sure others could name many examples but, guess what, my username says it all. Yuna debuted at 15 and we're seeing the exact same things as Wonyoung in her. At debut Yuna called herself ariel, next era she had blonde hair and named herself barbie. She named her confidence as one of her favourite parts of herself. She received a lot of love for being a little bit goofy but confident. That same confidence now gets her mocked online. "Bless me" what a pick me girl. Sings a song ironically, untalented and cringy. It hurts to see her lose that confidence she used to have, that same confidence that made me love her in the first place.

I genuinely fear what this might mean for currently loved maknaes/minors in Kpop, such as the NewJeans members or Eunchae. Right now, NewJeans are on top of the game, and Eunchae has earned the title "maknaist of maknaes". But what happens when they get closer to adulthood? They're no longer these cute little babies to awh over. Or some newer, younger idols debut and they're no longer the cute babies of the industry.


Honestly, any idol that gets labelled with the "pick me" label tends to be ones I admire so much. Kpop stans don't know the actual definition of pick me, and the ones that do use it in such an anti-feminist way. Spoiler alert, women can exist without male validation.

I personally dont even understand why she got hate for the whole strawberry thing.
When I heard about it for the first time the only thing I thought was manners
I have been raised in a house where eating manners are an important thing to know/have, and that's the first thing I thought when I saw she ate a strawberry w/ two hands.
Now I am not saying its rude/wrong to eat a strawberry with one hand but idk I almost find it polite in a way instead of just grabbing the fucking strawberry with one hand and taking a huge bite out of it.
Because I am sure Wonyoung knows every single action she does is either being recorded, or watched. So she might just have basic human decency and decided it would be polite/wouldn't look as messy if she ate a strawberry with two hands-

Once again, if any of you out there eat strawberry with one hand I aint judging you- I do that even. Im just saying maybe Wonyoung was aware of this and yk how idols get judged abt everything they do- she prob would of gotten hate if she ate the gosh darn strawberry with one hand-
