Gyuri is Leaving fromis_9 and Pledis

On July 28th Pledis Entertainment announced that fromis_9 member Gyuri will be leaving the group and the company.

"fromis_9 will become an 8-member group starting from this coming August and will meet their fans in their upcoming Japanese activities and other various activities scheduled for the second half of this year.fromis_9’s fifth EP 'from our Memento Box' will be the last promotional activity of Jang Gyu Ri as she wraps up her time as a member of fromis_9. She will conclude her contract with us as of July 31 to embark on a new journey."
"The [remaining] eight members of fromis_9 (Lee Sae Rom, Song Ha Young, Park Ji Won, Roh Ji Sun, Lee Seo Yeon, Lee Chae Young, Lee Na Gyung, and Baek Ji Heon) signed a new exclusive contract with us when they transferred to PLEDIS Entertainment in August 2021. Jang Gyu Ri maintained the conditions of the original contract with her former agency and PLEDIS has been in charge of tasks including the management of her team and individual activities. The artist and the company made the decision after careful consideration and discussions on what would be the best path for everyone."

I'm so sad!! fromis is one of my favorite 4th gen ggs and they're just now getting successful. This is so out of the blue. I wish she wouldn't leave but I'm sure she has a reason to. I wish her success in the future.

I just started trying to stan fromis_9 this week!!!
i'll still support them and continue working on stanning them ofc, but this is so sad ;-;

I’m honestly very surprised. I’m not really a fan but considering fromis was just starting to get popular I wasn’t expecting to suddenly find out one member has left. I wish her luck in her future and I hope the other 8 members are able to promote happily together

So basically, the former member mentioned why she wanted to leave her idol career behind by stating this:

"It was always a dream that I had tucked away in the corner of my heart. I'm sure many people wondered why I chose to give up my idol promotions, when I could have carried on as both an idol and an actress. I think it was just because it was a dream of mine that I really want to pour my heart into. I felt that there were restraints in trying to balance both, and personally, I just didn't feel like I was capable of doing both to the best of my abilities. The members [of fromis_9] were also doing so well, and we went through a lot and I trusted in them, so I thought, 'I think now is a good time to pursue my dream'. There were many times when I wanted to apologize to the members, because of my two roles. I especially had to miss most practices because of the filming schedule for 'Cheer Up'. At the time, we were busy preparing for our comeback and our fan meeting, and even though I did my best, I could see with my own eyes that I was lacking. I felt sorry to the other members who were working harder, and I worried that I was getting in their way. These days, I see them at the hair and makeup shop, and they also contact me frequently to tell me that they're watching my drama."
