Today Chen posted a handwritten letter on EXO's fan page, Lysn.
It announced that he would begin his mandatory military service on October 26th.
SM Entertainment later confirmed this to be true.

Here is Chen's letter:

"Hello, this is Chen. Are you staying healthy and well these days, with the temperature differences widening day to day? The hot days have moved on and it is now a warm fall.

The reason I am writing and greeting you through this letter today is to let you all know that I will be enlisting for my mandatory military service on October 26. I will fulfill my duties diligently while taking good care of my mental and physical health, so that I can grow as a person during this time away and greet you all with a better image; I hope that you all will continue to live beautifully and healthily like always!!

Thank you always, and I love you."

First of all, isn't he such a sweetheart? Most of this letter consists of his caring words towards EXO-L. He is one the kindest idols and people I have ever learned of.
This letter was released the same day as his first song since his marriage and child. I think that song is a message to fans that he's not gonna leave the industry due to some delulu haters. He is saying hello to a new chapter.

I'm really gonna miss Chen. He's my EXO bias and one of my favorite singers in all of kpop. I always watch compilations of him singing when I'm sad. I hope he doesn't have too hard a time, and he will come back to the music industry, reclaiming his title of 'vocal legend'!
