1. What are some differences between being in COS: Dawn and in your group/as a soloist? Hyunjoo: Well, one of the major differences is the group size. CALLA feels a lot smaller, so being with so many people is a bit wild! Jei: For me, the big difference in being a soloist and being in COS: Dawn is that there are, obviously, more people to work with. I really like working with all of the members because they're so fun to talk to and they're amazing people really! Yin: I'm in a coed group with two other boys, so I'm not really used to being in a completely female group. I would say it's nice and easier to build friendships and we understand one another much better. Elsie K: One difference is since I'm a soloist that was supposed to debut into a group, it brings back memories and now I kinda know what it's like to be in a group even though it's not like a full group. Jia: I think the difference is that in COS I can actually work with others artists. I find this really fun because sometimes being a soloist means you don't work with a lot of other people. Rookie: I think it's that there's so many people in COS: Dawn rather than the group I'm in, so many new people to talk to too. Mae: I think the biggest difference is having different members. Though I get along with the members of COS it just feels a bit weird promoting without my fellow ROBO:5 members. Violet: I think the biggest difference for me is that I’m the maknae here. I’m so used to Zoe having that position. It’s weird but not unwelcome being treated like the baby? This group is also a lot bigger than ENCHANTRESS which was overwhelming at first.
2. Have you gotten close to a specific member of COS: Dawn? Hyunjoo: Yep! Jia is a soloist who I thought seemed very sweet, so I tried to get to know her better. Just as I thought she's a great person, and I want to keep hanging out after the promotions end. Jei: A particular member I've gotten close to is Mae from ROBO:5. Mae and I are both under Chaence Entertainment but we haven't gotten time to get closer due to busy schedules and practices. We both get along really well! The other members and I are also getting closer! Yin: To choose one person, I'd say Elsie K. She's a really cool person that I just enjoy hanging out with overall. Elsie K: Umm, I'm friends with Yin, we get along quite well and when I saw Jia and Jei-unnie I did get excited and tried to start a conversation, I had a small conversation with Mae since I'm friends with her member, Jamie from Robo:5. Jia: I have actually! I have gotten close to Hyunjoo unnie from Calla. But at the same time, I love all my members of COS! Rookie: Umm, not really but hopefully soon! Mae: I think i've gotten really close with Jei Unnie! She's really cool and though i've seen her in the company building a few times I never really got to interact with her due to our busy schedules. But now we are together we've gotten to know each other and grown to become friends! Violet: Yes! I quickly became quite close to Crystal as we were both born in 2005. I just felt more comfortable with her at first compared to the other unnies. But over time we have all grown quite close.
3. What are some of your favorite songs from the other members? Hyunjoo: I love Jei's Cherry. It's so happy and bright, why wouldn't I love it? Jei: I really like Shoot! by Hyunjoo-unnie's group, CALLA and I love Sunrise by Violet's group, ENCHANTRESS! Yin: I really like Enchantress's Closer. I have been a fan since debut. Elsie K: Oooooo, umm, OH CALLA the group Hyunjoo-unnie's in, oh I love Espresso, it's so good! Enough by Jei-unnie was also really good. Jia: I love Breathe by Elsie K unnie! It's pretty surprising because usually I don't listen to those types of songs, but I loved it so much! Rookie: Umm, Violet's group ENCHANTRESS Red Flavor and Psycho were really good! Mae: One of my favorite songs from the other members is probably hmmm... Psycho by BLACKLIST! I really like the songs elegant sound and concept. Violet: I really like Jei unnie's “Lilac”, “Merry-Go-Round” by ROBO:5, “Deja Vu” by Hourglass”, and “Get It” by RO5EY.
4. If you could join one of the other fictional groups or partner with one of the soloists, which would be your pick? Hyunjoo: I really love Enchantress's concept. I love my group so much, but their fairytale concept is so cute! CALLA doesn't really have a concept. Jei: If I could...hmm...I would join RO5EY! You could say I was 'Born Ready' *giggle* Pun intended. Yin: To join a group, it'd easily be BLACKLIST. Since we're under the same company, it's easier because the rules are similar and I wouldn't have to get used to a whole new system and building. Elsie K: Jei-unnie or Jia, it would be a dream!!! Jia: I would love to partner with Jei. I think it would be fun! Rookie: Ooo, um Yin-unnie's group, HOURGLASS! Mae: I think I would join CALLA! I met the members backstage a few times as Hyunjoo introduced me to them and all the members are really sweet and funny! I also thik I would suit their concept well. Violet: I think I would like to be in a duo with Jei unnie! I really like the songs she releases, so I would love to sing with her.
5. What has been the hardest part about preparing for this cover stage? Hyunjoo: Getting used to the new atmosphere. When you're in a group you've prepared with for so long, you know everyone's strengths and weaknesses and you can work around them. I'm also the leader of CALLA, so I'm used to taking control and working with my members. In this group we're all equals, but we also don't know much about each other, so we're all trying to adjust in order to cover the song well. Jei: The hardest part about preparing was practicing, for me personally. I wasn't close with many of the members until practice and that affected my practicing since I was unfamiliar with the airin a way. Thankfully, we all get along and it's really fun to practice with them! Yin: The hardest part would definitely be finding time to practice with individual members and overall as a group. As you guys already know, we are really busy and our schedules are packed. To find time to practice all together is already really hard, if you have a duo choreo or anything in particular with someone specific that you would like to practice or go over, it's hard to find time to arrange that meeting. Elsie K: Ummm, trying not to spoil anything since I like spoiling a lot of things. Jia: I think it was learning the song. The choreography came easy to me, but it was the song that was difficult. Rookie: Probably learning the choreography, I found it kinda hard so hopefully I don't mess up! Mae: I think it's living up to the expectations of the song, For example if you make one small mistake it just destroys the original song. That's why I try to be extra perfect when it comes to cover stages. Violet: I think just the number of people was difficult to handle at first. We had a lot of issues organizing the dance and the formations. Especially cause the choreography is quite precise.
6. Can you give a spoiler about the performance/song? Hyunjoo: Saranghae... Jei: Hmmm... let's get into it! There's your spoiler. Yin: Nope, sorry you'll know everything from my fellow interviewees. Elsie K: Oh! Umm, am I aloud to? I promised myself not to spoil anything, surprisingly so you're gonna have to wait sadly but I'm sure the others will tell you something. Jia: It's in a new world. That's for sure. *Winks* Rookie: hmmm, saranghae! Mae: This song is the theme song of k-pop! *laughs Violet: The chorus starts with the word “Saranghae” *giggles*
7. If you could switch parts with another member of COS: Dawn, who would it be? Hyunjoo: I am a little jealous of Jia's... you'll probably see why when the cover is released. But she worked so hard to get the part so she deserves it! Go Jia go! Jei: If I could switch parts...it would be with Jia because she has a cool dance br- part! Yin: I’d say Mae of ROBO:5 or Elsie K because their positions are quite similar to mine therefore simplifying everything. Jia’s position would also work. Elsie K: Ummmmmm, probably Yin if I had to choose. Jia: Hmm, maybe Violet? I love her part. Rookie: Probably, Jia-unnie. Mae: Probably Yin unnie! She's really cool and chill and is someone you can easily be around. Even when I tend to make some mistakes with the choreo she is always patient and willing to help me. Violet: If I didn’t have my part I would want Mae unnie’s part.
8. Will you participate in another stage with COS? Hyunjoo: Maybe. Or maybe I should make my members try out COS... I think they should have a turn too. Jei: I'd love to! Everyone is just amazing and it feels like this project is bringing together many people, fandoms, and the community as well! Yin: Maybe… Elsie K: Yes! If we ever do one again, I will! Jia: Maybe. I'm not sure. If it was up to me I would love one! Rookie: Yes, of course! Mae: Yes I would! All the members of COS hold a special place in my heart. Though we've only met for a few weeks I feel like we all easily stand out together and have great chemistry. Violet: I would love to! But I also want to give my fellow ENCHANTRESS members a chance as well. I guess it’ll depend on the song chosen.
9. If you could pick a song for COS to cover, which one would it be? Hyunjoo: Hm... this is tough. Maybe WJSN sunbaenim's Dreams Come True. It sounds very magical. Jei: Probably STAYC-sunbaenim's Beautiful Monster! I've been listening to it lately so this is biased but I think it would be a good song for COS to cover! Yin: I would probably choose a boy group song. Maybe EXO sunbaenim’s Lotto or Obsession or Ateez sunbaenim’s Guerilla. I’m not sure it would fit the sound COS goes for though. Elsie K: hmmmmm, La Vie En Rose by IZ*ONE sunbaenim. Jia: Umm, maybe Wa Da Da? I love that song and I think it would be fun! Rookie: I Can't Stop Me by TWICE sunbaenim. Mae: Probably Cry For Me by TWICE sunbaenim. We're doing a cute elegant concept for our current cover and i would like to try a darker concept soon! Violet: I hope COS continues to cover iconic kpop songs, so I would chose one of the same caliber as this one. Maybe “Bang Bang Bang” by Big Bang sunbaenim. Bada unnie would be amazing in that!
10. What was it like when you all first met each other? Hyunjoo: Some people probably settled in immediately, but I am an introvert, so I was a little nervous at first. But everyone is kind and makes you feel welcome, and so I settled in quickly Jei: To be honest, it was awkward at first but then Crystal started to introduce herself and created a lovely atmosphere and everyone became less tense. We did have a few funny moments where I started hiccuping while it was silent and they weren't exactly normal hiccups. It was so funny that we all ended up laughing and it's like an inside joke of sorts now! ^^ Yin: It was very awkward. Especially the younger idols. I knew a few people going in and I was definitely on the older side so I knew who to talk to. Think about it this way, it’s like the first day of school with a lot of new students. Elsie K: Kinda awkward but everyone's really nice once you get to know them! Jia: Well first, it was kind of awkward because I can't get along with people that easily, but after a while we started talking about things that interest us and we became close friends! Rookie: Kind awkward at first but I feel in the future, everyone will open up more! *giggles* Mae: I'm gonna admit everyone was ver awkward it wasn't even intimidating. Now that i think about it there are a lot more introverts in this group than extroverts lol. Violet: It was quite awkward at first as many of us have never met. But then we gradually started to introduce ourselves to one another, but there were a lot of moments of silence at first.
