THE EVOLUTION OF CHRISOPHER CHAN BHANG

Bang Chan started his music career in 2010 as a trainee of JYP Entertainment. He traveled from Sydney, Australia to Seoul, South Korea, at the age of thirteen. On April 11th, 2011, he attended Cheongdam High School, but due to his songwriting, practicing singing, dancing, and rapping, he took a break, then later picked it back up in his third year. As a trainee, he appeared in two JYP Entertainment music videos. He first showed up in Miss A’s ‘Only You’ music video on March 29th, 2015, and later on October 19th, he appeared again in one of Twice’s music videos dressed up as a zombie. In late 2016, during his training, he created a hip-hop group under the name 3RACHA with Han and Changbin. They released their first song ‘Intro’ on February 1st, 2017, followed by more songs as a group.

JYP Entertainment announced a new survival group called ‘Stray Kids’ on October 11th, 2017, also revealing Bang Chan as one of the contestants. On December 19th, 2017, the series finale was aired in which all nine male contestants were selected to debut together with Bang Chan as their leader. The following year, on March 25th, Stray Kids finally released their debut EPISODE ‘I Am NOT’ with Bang Chan being credited with the help of writing and producing every song on the album. On January 2nd, 2019, Bang Chan created a new series. Every week, he would try to live-stream under the name ‘Channie’s Room’. The live began on V Live until October 22nd, 2022, when he switched to streaming on YouTube after Kim Woojin's departure.

On Dec 26th, 2019, Stray Kids released a song titled ‘Mixtape Gone Days’. Just days before Stray Kids' second debut anniversary, Bang Chan released a dance cover of ‘My House’, a song by his fellow label mates, 2PM. The following week, he posted his first vlog on the Stray Kids YouTube channel of himself learning the choreography by two members of 2PM. Later that year, of May 19th, Bang Chan was featured on Changbin’s ‘Street Light’, which was a part of the SKZ Record series. 11 days later, Bang Chan released a song called ‘I Hate To Admit’, which he wrote and produced by himself. This track was also a part of the SKZ Record Series. Towards the end of the summer of 2019, Bang Chan released his second vlog video featuring him playing Uno with his fellow bandmate.

Due to the global situation, Stray Kids had plenty of time to focus on music. On January 15th, 2021, both Bang Chan and Changbin were featured on I.N.’s ‘Maknae On Top’. June 18th of that year, four members, Bang Chan, Changbin, Seungmin, and Felix, released a song ‘Up All Night’ as an SKZ Record Track. On July 2nd, Bang Chan and Lee Know, the two oldest of the group, collaborated on a track called ‘Drive’.

At that same time, Stray Kids was competing in the reality TV show ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’. Stray Kids performed a mash-up of Blackpink’s ‘Ddu-du-ddu-du’ and their own song ‘God’s Menu’. For that performance, Felix was seen wearing a Deadpool outfit, which later caught the attention of Ryan Reynolds, the original actor. This attention led to Ryan and Bang Chan interacting. The two sent signed gifts to one another. On August 13th,2021, as part of marketing for the film ‘Free Guy’, Bang Chan interviewed Ryan Reynolds on the 20th Century Fox YouTube channel. The video spans about seven minutes, with just the two complementing each other.

On June 27th, 2021, Tyuzu of Twice released a cover of Taylor Swift’s song ‘ME!’. The original track featured male vocals, so she brought in Bang Chan to provide the male vocals. On August 20th,2022, Bang Chan was a day one MC for KCON L.A 2022. This event drew over 90,000 attendees. Exactly one year later, on August 20th, Bang Chan returned as the day three MC of the event, which also saw a larger crowd of over 140,000 attendees.

On May 14th, 2020. Bang Chan’s ‘Channie’s Room’ came to an end. Bang Chan nor the Company gave any public reason. On December 14th,2022, Bang Chan, along with 3RACHA, won the Creator award at the ‘Asian Artist’s Awards’. On Christmas Day of 2023, Bang Chan and I.N. released a song, ‘Black Hole,’ which could also seem like a gift to the fans.

On March 2nd, 2024, Bang Chan released his first solo music video for the song ‘Eternity’, which was inspired by his dog, Berry. Later in April, Bang Chan was chosen to be the cover for the Japanese magazine ‘Nylon’. Two months later, he was selected for the Korean issue of W magazine. In that same month, Bang Chan attended ‘Milan Fashion Week’ as a guest of the luxury brand ‘Fendi’. He was in an outfit made up entirely of the brand ‘Dazed Korea’. On July 8th, Bang Chan and Felix became hosts for the brand-new Apple Music radio ‘All About Stray Kids Radio’. On July 19th, the same day the mini album ‘ATE’ was released, the Marvel Korea YouTube channel shared a video featuring Bang Chan and Felix interviewing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Since Bang Chan’s journey, he has dedicated long hours to perfecting his singing, dancing, rapping, and Stray Kids. He has inspired many in the industry and outside the industry. Bang Chan’s journey from Sydney to Seoul shows a great display of his passion for music. He has been crucial to shaping the group’s sound and identity. His role as a singer, rapper, producer, dancer, and composer has established him as a significant figure in the K-pop industry with a growing list of achievements and a steadfast commitment to inspire fans and fellow artists, demonstrating that his journey is far from over.
