i was in the exact same spot last year — knew a few basics, tried Duolingo, got bored/confused, then stopped for weeks

. (so yeah, i totally get what you and others said about it being hard + kinda boring sometimes.)
what helped me was
not hunting for the “perfect app”, but doing a simple combo:
- learn Hangul properly first (sounds + spelling rules), otherwise every app feels messy
- pick one “input” thing (short videos/podcasts) and one “output” thing (speaking/writing)
for free basics, Loecsen is actually decent for travel phrases + quick starters.
and when i wanted something that feels less like tapping quizzes, i started using Avatalks sometimes — it’s more like short guided practice where you can listen, read, type, and say the line out loud in one flow, plus the mouth-shape visuals helped me stop guessing pronunciation. not magic, but it kept me consistent when motivation was low.
