After seeing what happened to the new girl groups and their recent scandals, this has me wondering, do scandals make K-pop groups more popular? Just asking

This has also happened to Stray Kids, a boy group, as well

i feel like boy groups have bigger scandals recently, for girl groups it's more just hate trains. no, i don't think scandals make kpop groups bigger. sure a lot of people get curious about kpop scandals and look into kpop to see what's happening but they never actually become a fan or anything. I don't think anyone is thinking "this group has a member with a horrific scandal going on, let me stan this group!"

Honestly they probably do. I think this bc some people would think the scandal is bad, and there are always people who disagree and dont think the idol in question deserves hate.
plus if people didnt know about the group prior to the scandal, they might listen to some of the music and possibly stan the group. scandals definitely get groups more recognition.
I dont remember the name of the group, but it was a gg and they had a scandal over something they were wearing, and i heard rumors that the company dressed them that way to get more publicity. so yeah i think scandals can get groups more fame.

also, skz and gidle r examples of groups that got bigger after a scandal. for gidle, they were already on the incline, whether soojin stayed or not they would have been just as big. for skz, they were already popular, most of their new fans don't even know about woojin or the scandal so i don't think that's a cause of their massive explosion after woojin left.
