Chapter 8: The Interview
"Welcome, Yeojin!" Jiwoo stood in the doorway of her office, grinning at the nervous girl. "Come in!"

Yeojin stepped hesitantly into the room behind Jiwoo, but stopped in the doorway. Jiwoo sat down at her desk and gestured for the girl to sit across from her. She did, and Jiwoo immediately began talking. She liked to get straight to the point of things, especially since she had a business to run. She didn't have time for pleasantries.

"Why are you interested in working for an entertainment agency?" Jiwoo asked.

Yeojin shuffled nervously before she answered. "I've always been interested in learning about the behind-the-scenes of K-Pop groups, but I've also know that I wouldn't do good in the spotlight. So I turned my sights to becoming a manager instead."

"You said you just graduated, right? What degree did you graduate with?"

The girl looked away from Jiwoo. "High school. I'm eighteen."

Jiwoo studied the girl. She looked young, but she hadn't expected her to be that young. Yeojin watched her, awaiting her verdict. Finally, Jiwoo chuckled.

"You're ambitious. I like it. Going after what you want instead of spending four years in college… Here's my advice for you."

Yeojin nodded, not saying anything as Jiwoo paused again.

"I'll hire you, but I also want you to continue with your education. College can be helpful. I'm currently considering going back to get my master's. Anyways, that's not the point. What I'm trying to say is that if you work for me, I'll pay for half your tuition."

Yeojin's eyes lit up. "Really?"

"Yes. I offer that to many of my employees, including idols, although most of them decline the offer. But it's there if you want it."

"So I have the job?"

Jiwoo gave her a little smile.

"Yes."

☆☆☆

"You know, I think I would like to name my child Chickunleigh."

Four heads semwiveled to Ayla as she said this. Kiri, Navy and Lindzy were used to this by now, so they didn't question it. But Briella, Saki, Nilla and Hanni all had questions.

"What does that have to do with what we were just talking about?" Hanni asked.

"Why that?" Saki questioned.

Ayla sighed. "Never mind. Apparently none of you get the joke."

"She's referencing a YouTuber," Lindzy explained.

"Anyways… Back to what we were doing," Nilla redirected their conversation. "The EVYN concert!"
Due to her partnership with Amoure Entertainment, Jiwoo had scored them four tickets to the debut concert of their new girl group, EVYN. Now the girls were fighting over who would get to see them.

"I want to go!" Saki yelled, raising a hand. "EVYN exists in my world, but that was in the past. They disbanded before I got into them and I really want to see them live!"

"Wait, it does? How did I not know this?" Lindzy asked.

"Because you don't listen to the older K-Pop," Jewel rolled her eyes.

"One ticket for Saki," Nilla handed her one, and she cheered.

"If she's going, then I'm coming!" Briella held out her hand, and Nilla handed her a ticket.

"We've still got two more!"

Nilla looked around the group.

"Sadly, we've got other plans that night," Lindzy sighed. Navy, Kiri, Ayla, Jewel and her were all going to a movie at the same time as the concert.

"We have class," Hanni reminded Nilla.
Nilla nodded. "I know, that's why I'm offering the tickets to them! Seriously, can no one else go?"

Briella and Saki exchanged a glance. "Can we get the extra two tickets?"

Nilla nodded and handed over the tickets. "Alright. Jiwoo didn't say anything about bringing significant others, after all."

"Great, they'll love this!" Saki beamed. "Thanks!"

"Remember to take plenty of pictures! We need them for our socials!" Nilla called after them as they left to give Forrest and Owen the news.

☆☆☆

A knock on Dohee's office door startled her, making her drop the papers she was holding.

"Who is it?" she called, annoyed about being interrupted.

"Yeojin."

Dohee thought for a second, wondering why the name sounded so familiar until it finally clicked.

"Come in!"

The door opened and shut quickly. Her assistant stood in the doorway, looking anxious about being in Dohee's presence.

"What do you need? I don't have all day," Dohee snapped, then picked up the scattered papers from her desk and organizing them back into their piles. Yeojin fidgeted nervously before answering her question.

"I did it, CEO Park. I now work for CEO Seo."

Dohee grinned. This was the best news she'd gotten all day, although she worried that the incompetent employee would somehow manage to ruin it. But she pushed the nagging thought to the back of her brain and gestured for Yeojin to come closer.

"Here's what I want you to do next."

Chapter 9: The Road to Debut
Months passed quickly, the girls working hard throughout it all. Winter turned into spring quickly, and soon things were coming into place.

Jiwoo had spent the last few months working with Penni, Navy, Kiri and Briella in making the debut album. Penni created the storyline behind the album that fit into the music video and concept photos. Navy worked with some dance coaches on choreography, Kiri and Briella worked together to write the songs, and Jiwoo oversaw it all. After a month, they had a working album and all they had to do was practice.

That was where Yeojin came in. She found dorms for all the girls in a cheap apartment complex that wasn't too far from RE:VENGE. She secured transportation, furniture, everything else. The girls moved in two weeks later, just in time to start the preparations for the debut.

Jiwoo would never forget the night they moved the girls in. Yeojin had gotten them two apartments, each with two bedrooms and one bathroom. The hardest part was sorting them all into rooms.

It was a huge argument, although Jiwoo thought the roommate assignments would be pretty simple. Apparently, these girls didn't like people sorting them into different categories. The ones dating within the group wanted to share a room. Nilla and Hanni wanted to be in the same dorm as Jewel and Lindzy, but Jewel and Lindzy wanted to be with Ayla, Navy and Kiri. Eventually, a frantic Yeojin had come to Jiwoo who was still working in her office at the RE:VENGE building, filling out some paperwork.

"The girls are tearing the group apart over room assignments!"

That had succeeded in getting Jiwoo's attention. So she made the three-minute hike to the apartment complex just to sort the girls into their respective rooms. Saki and Briella shared a dorm with Nilla and Hanni. Lindzy shared a dorm with Ayla, Kiri and Navy, and they had eventually ended up splitting Ayla, Navy and Kiri up, sending Ayla to bunk with Lindzy.

The next fight had been about furniture arrangements. Jiwoo had no idea how these girls had been friends for so long. Finally, after tons of yelling and name calling, they got everyone settled.

After they moved in, Jiwoo began working with them on the debut album. They began learning the songs and choreography while she worked with Penni to schedule filming for the music video.

"I think we should do this one as the title track," Penni held up a piece of paper with a song Briella had written on it. "It shows off what we want this group to be perfectly."

Jiwoo took the song from her and scanned over it, then nodded. "You're right. It's perfect."

"The question is, what should we do for the music video?" Penni sat down. They were in her office, Jiwoo behind her desk and Penni across from her.
The two women thought for a moment, the room dipping into silence. Finally, Penni gasped and snapped her fingers. "What if we did a spooky theme? We already know we want the concept of this to kind of be dark, so it could work?"

"What do you mean by 'spooky'?" Jiwoo leaned forward, intrigued.

"We film at a haunted house. Okay, maybe not an actual haunted house, even though that would be amazing, but an abandoned house?"

Jiwoo shrugged. "It could work. A haunted house music video, although I think there's already a few music videos like that out there."

"There's a music video for everything, Jiwoo."

"Yeah, but we should do something original."

Penni groaned. "Like what?"

Jiwoo closed her eyes, trying to imagine the picture her mind was painting. "Well, we're really emphasizing the 'fantasy' part of this, right?"

"Yeah, it's kind of in the name. Of the group and the song."

"What screams 'fantasy' to you, Penni?"

"Fairies," she said almost immediately. "Mushrooms. Elves. Magical forests full of secrets. Butterflies."

"What if it's not a haunted house we're filming at, but a haunted forest?"

"One that shifts between being fantastical and haunted," Penni mused. "Reminds me of the series these girls are from. I think it could work."

Jiwoo opened her eyes, beginning to type on her computer. "I think I have a place. I'll send the details once everything is finalized."

"How much longer do you think we have before debut?" Penni asked.

"Not long," Jiwoo muttered. "Not long at all."

☆☆☆

"Okay everyone, gather around!" Nilla, the new leader of the group, called out. The girls turned their attention to her, although no one moved from where they were sitting.

They had been eating lunch in the cafeteria when Penni had come in, whispered something to Nilla, then left. Nilla had spent the rest of their lunch time being secretive about what she had said, but now she was ready to tell them.

Once she had everyone's attention, Nilla began talking. "All of you have looked over the music, right?" The girls all nodded, and she grinned. "Great! Now, of those tracks, they want at least five of them to be unit or solo songs. Penni has asked me to help decide who gets which song as a unit song."

"Do we know which ones are being used as unit songs?" Kiri asked.

"All of them except for the title track and promotional b-side," Nilla answered. Kiri nodded, and the girls began talking amongst themselves.

"I think the intro should be a solo sung by you!" Hanni suggested, looking over at Nilla, who turned red.

"But solos are scary," she muttered.

"But you're our leader!" Lindzy protested. "It would be perfect!"

"I'll think about it," she grumbled.

Slowly, the other girls began claiming their unit songs. Nilla made a list and sent it to Penni, then joined the other girls as they made their way to dance practice.

"Did you hear that we finally got a filming location?" Ayla asked as they walked down the stairs.

"Ooh, where are we going?" Navy asked excitedly. "England? Paris? Thailand?"

"Poland!"

The girls looked at each other in confusion.

"Where?" Kiri asked.

"Poland. To the Gryfino Forest," Ayla rolled her eyes. "Try to follow along."

"I wonder what they have planned…" Nilla mused, and the other girls agreed with her. Whatever they were doing in Poland, they hoped it would at least be interesting.

☆☆☆

Not too far away, someone was making a phone call to a known enemy.

"They've got the debut date set."

"When is it?"

"The 23rd of April."

The voice on the other end of the call paused, and the caller wondered if she was going to get in trouble.

"We're going to have to do something to stop them. They can't already be ahead of me."

"Jiwoo's been speeding through the process-"

The voice on the other end laughed. "Speed is where things get messy. That is when it's easiest to destroy things. She's not being careful, is she?"

"No."

"Good. Then do what I asked you to do."

"Yes, ma'am."

The call went silent, and the caller got ready to betray the trust of her new boss.
